"It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Shadow Gallery vocalist, Michael A. Baker. Mike, 45 years old, suffered a heart attack, Wednesday afternoon, October 29th, 2008. Mike was a founding member of Shadow Gallery and for the past 16 years helped shape the sound of the band with his magical voice. He was a warrior in the studio, a true professional. Mike was our friend, our singer and our brother. We loved him and will miss him enormously, but he will always be remembered in our hearts and through his music."

Rhode Island metal band Dour Cursiva is calling it quits and three of its members will be forming a new band. In the bands own words:

"Dour Cursiva is calling it quits. Due to recent member changes, which were left unannounced until now, along with a general refocus of musical direction, the rest of us remaining decided that it would be best to retire the Dour Cursiva name. We leave this project with no ill will toward anyone, and nothing but the best experiences behind. We have no plans of playing a final show as Dour Cursiva.

"Thank you to David Cavalieri, Kevin Pires, Joe Valerio, Eric Zabinski, and Josh Aguiar for their effort and involvement in Dour. Thank you to Ethan and Hold True Recordings for all of his hard work and dedication in supporting the release of "Voices Through Wires." We are very proud of that album and encourage you to pick it up through Ethan at http://www.holdtrue.com. Thanks to Ian van Opijnen for his help in making that album sound the way it does.

"We could thank a million and one people and bands for supporting us, encouraging us, hooking us up with shows, creating artwork or taking pictures for us, or just being solid friends throughout the whole deal. It would be long-winded and self-indulgent. So, thank you to everyone who supported us or shared in this experience with us.

"Expect a new website with a sort of retrospective of our various stages of a band to be posted when get down to that."

Plant Issues Official Statement: No Zeppelin Tour

Robert Plant has denied rumours that Led Zeppelin is set to tour next year, releasing a statement stating that the he will not be touring or recording with the band.

In the statement the singer said that following his current tour with Alison Krauss he will not be touring with any band or project for at least two years.

Last week (September 26) it was claimed that Plant had agreed to a Led Zeppelin tour.

However, the singer's statement read: "It's both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward.

"I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects."

Since The Flood Calls It Quits

New England hardcore/metal band Since The Flood has broken up. Formed in 2002, the group has released albums with Ironclad Recordings and Metal Blade Records. Drummer Luke Buckbee has issued the following statement:

"It's been a long and hard 6.5 years. Would I ever give one second of it up? Not for the world. As of Thursday September 11th 2008, Since the Flood is done. I'm sure this is a huge surprise to many people, but it was a decision that needed to be made.

"No matter what anyone thought of us, we were a blue collar band. We never had the hype that many more recent bands enjoy. We toured our asses off, partied all over the world, and wrote music that we loved to play. Since the Flood never made any money and never turned into a true business. Looking back, I think that this was a blessing in disguise, because we can all walk away and feel in no way cheated. We all had some amazing experiences and all came home broke as shit.

"Why the break-up? Gas prices? Member issues? Yup. But those aren't the main reasons. It's just time to move on. For Chuck, Kevin, and Rob that time came sooner than later, but for Dave, Nate, Ricky, Dan and I, the time is now. There's no anger or bitterness it's just time to start a new chapter in our lives and careers. More...

Alabama Thunderpussy Is No More

Just minutes after watching the debut episode of the HBO horror series “True Blood” and the scene in which a character in a bar is wearing an Alabama Thunderpussy t-shirt, guitarist Erik Larson issued a statement that the band was breaking up — and it had nothing to do with “True Blood.”

“The beginning of 2008 brought yet more upheaval in the saga that is this band when [singer] Kyle Thomas (Exhorder) left the group to focus on his family and the impending Exhorder reunion,” wrote Larson. “The remaining four of us had a band meeting and after serious discussion, decided to take a much-deserved/needed few months’ hiatus to regroup and focus on home life and other individual projects. The ‘few months’ seemed to flow into a bit longer as the summer progressed and we all dug deeper into our lives as individuals outside of ATP.

“Well, we finally regrouped and after much deliberation and thoughtful discussion, we have decided to end the band. There are no hard feelings between us and no bullshit politics. It’s pretty much just the end of an era. To quote George Harrison, ‘all things must pass.’ And so, after 12-plus years of solid ATP mayhem, we call it a day.”

From A Second Story Window Breaks Up

As recent rumors have suggested, From A Second Story Window has indeed called it quits. Formed in 2002, the group has put out several releases through Black Market Activies. The following statement has been issued:

"The past several years for us as From A Second Story Window have been quite a roller coaster ride. We have watched trends come and go, looked on as people grew in and out of an ever undulating "scene", and had the chance to watch something we love, our music, grow into an expression we can all truly be proud of. However, the life in a band is much like those very roads we travel down on every tour; hills leading up, followed by valley's dipping downward towards vast, level planes where things begin to feel stagnant and a bit too calm. Then around every corner is a new fad or statement that you can either grow with or simply step aside and let it be what it is, knowing that you are no longer connected at all anymore. For us, with this changing musical market and its inhabitants, it is simply our time to step aside and let the flow continue on without us. It is time for us to venture down new avenues of creativity and to find new things to enrich our lives fully. From A Second Story Window was something that gave us all hope and pride in our small part of the musical world, but with economical woe's pulling us down, and changes in attitude towards the entire movement of "heavy" music, it just seems right to call it quits and move on in our own ways.

"Please accept our deepest thanks to everyone out there who has ever helped us out, made it to our shows, partied with us afterwords (or before, ha ha), and most importantly listened to our music and truly cared about it as much as we did and still do. This is not an end for us as musical people, just an end for us as a group called From A Second Story Window, so be looking for little projects that any of us may do for fun in the future. Again, this entire trip has been a roller coaster ride, and I know that none of us are put out what-so-ever that we bought tickets and got in line! Thanks again to everyone out there, we've had a blast!"

Led Zeppelin Enters The Studio

Drummer Jason Bonham has confirmed that he is working on new material with original Led Zeppelin members Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, although lead singer Robert Plant has not been working with the band.

Bonham states: "At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material,” he said.

“When I get there [in the studio] I never ask any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I enjoy every moment of it.

“Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me. It’s my life. It’s what I’ve dreamed about doing.

“Lots of politics [would need to] get ironed out [before an album could be made].”

Celtic Frost Becomes Officially Terminated

Triptykon/ex-Celtic Frost mainman Tom Fischer has posted the following message online:

"The intense rain outside continues unabated, and, far in the distance, the torn, grey clouds merge with the earth, obscuring any hint of a horizon. A fitting scenery to a final act of ignominy. I attended seven and a half funereal hours of meetings yesterday, initially with Celtic Frost/Triptykon manager Antje Lange, then including Martin Eric Ain and Celtic Frost's accountant, to discuss in detail the dissolution of most of Celtic Frost's business arrangements and the distribution of the group's remaining assets. What an infinitely doleful and emotionally draining undertaking, and one I did not ever wish to witness. And yet one that was probably unavoidable."

Fischer initially left the group in April of this year citing internal conflict as the reason and taking all music he had been writing for Celtic Frost with him to use in his new band, Triptykon which also features original Celtic Frost drummer Reed St. Mark and Dark Fortress/ex-Celtic Frost touring guitarist V Santura.

Himsa bassist Derek Harn has posted the following message:

"After 10+ years, four releases, countless tours and almost incomprehensible (yet constant) upheaval, the last three years of the band have been relatively stable. Having sacrificed everything we had in order to ensure the band's survival it's time to let it go. We made a great CD ('Summon in Thunder', Century Media); reportedly, our best. We've got a great label. We're getting along, we've toured and we’re fine. It's all good. We're leaving it at that. More...

Light This City Confirms Break-Up

After canceling their scheduled tours last week, Light This City has officially called it quits. Drummer Ben Murray has issued the following statement:

"I know this is extremely unexpected and disappointing to a lot you out there, but Laura [Nichol] and I have decided to end the band recently because of personal and practical reasons. While this may come as a shock to many, I hope I can shed some light on the reasons behind the decision.

"First and foremost, the touring lifestyle and playing on stage every night, as well as making this band our entire lives and our profession had over time become stale and anxiety-ridden for both of us, and in the end, not enjoyable anymore. We started this band because we loved playing this kind of music and loved the release that we got out of it, and the satisfaction we got from jamming with our friends, and taking it across the country. The fact that it had not been that way for a while was enough reason for us to hang it up and leave the band as 6 years of amazing memories and amazing accomplishments. There are other life goals that both her and I have that we felt would not be reached had we taken the band further, say for another 5 to 10 years, and we didn't want to string our other band members along in something that our hearts weren't in 100%. That's just not who we are, and not how we ever wanted this band to be. Both Laura and I want to get back to the root of why we love playing and writing music, whether it be professionally or not, and not have this burden of feeling alienated from our friends and scene because of what the touring lifestyle does to bands. It is a feeling that we just couldn't handle anymore, and didn't want to deal with on any level, because at the end of the day, music IS our entire lives and we want to keep it that way. We wanted to keep it enjoyable as an amazing catharsis, which it was quickly becoming the opposite. With all of this, on top of the financial and logistical burdens we have come across in touring fulltime, we felt it was the right time to make this announcement. As disappointed as our friends and fans may feel, we hope you understand and respect the reasoning behind this decision, and can understand why we'd make it. More...

From Autumn To Ashes Calls It Quits

From Autumn to Ashes have decided to call it a day. Below is a quite from vocalist Francis Mark.

"At this point I feel that we have accomplished everything we could have hoped for with FATA. It doesn't feel much like a break up. Just feels like the end. It's complete. I would say that we are going on indefinite hiatus because the term breakup suggests a more negative circumstance.

"There have been no quarrels between band members. It is also not a question of fan support because we are lucky to have some of the most loyal and impassioned friends a band could ask for. I've dedicated almost 9 years to FATA and it's become something of a security for me. I'm looking forward to feeling uncertain and the freedom of starting a new band that has no definition."
