First Single From Saw II Soundtrack By Mudvayne

The MuDvAyNe track "Forget To Remember" has been picked as the first single from SAW II, the companion album to the upcoming Lion's Gate thriller. The band headlines a blockbuster lineup that includes Queens of the Stone Age, Marilyn Manson, The Used, Bloodsimple, Papa Roach and more.

In addition, MuDvAyNe recently shot an eye-popping video with SAW II director Darren Bousman that incorporates footage from the highly anticipated film. "Forget To Remember" can also be heard over the film's initial end titles. Says Bousman: "To have talents like MuDvAyNe and Queens of The Stone Age - both amazing bands, and both bands I've listened to for years - featured on this soundtrack is a thrill."

Nephasth Split Up

Brazilian extreme death metallers NEPHASTH have apparently split up as a result of "incompatibilities of ideas and interests between the bandmembers," according to a message sent out by the group's webmaster. "With the purpose of not hurting the name of NEPHASTH in the extreme underground scene, keeping itself in an honorable way and respecting after all its original ideology, the bandmembers have decided to finish their activities with the band.

"In spite of NEPHASTH having established itself with the same bandmembers since the beginning, and all of its work along the last eight years was the result of the four members' dedication, it has been decided that none of its members shall use the name NEPHASTH [in order to preserve] its legacy. That has been decided by everyone. Thanks to all the bands, labels, webzines and metalheads that supported us all these years!"

More Opeth Album Record Numbers And Tour Plans

New York, NY - Swedish Rock innovators OPETH have arrived on the world stage in a major way. Their new album, GHOST REVERIES, sold 15,000 copies in its first week, tripling the band's best-ever first week sales to date, and placing the record at #1 on the Billboard Current Hard Music Chart, #8 on the Top Hard Music Chart and #64 on the Top 200 Albums Chart for the week. The video for the first single from the album, "The Grand Conjuration," can currently be seen on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and on FUSE.

An album that Kerrang calls "baffling, utterly hypnotic and quite, quite brilliant," GHOST REVERIES finds itself in strange company, sharing the chart with the likes of Lifehouse, The Eagles, and Guns N' Roses. But as the sales of bands like The Mars Volta, System Of A Down, and Queens Of The Stone Age can attest, the audience for groundbreaking, interesting music grows over time so Opeth's path is well laid out.

In support of the new album, the band is set to embark on the North American leg of the GHOST REVERIES World Tour. The outing begins on October 9th in Phoenix, Arizona and will run through North America through mid-November 2005. Supporting the band directly on this run will be Pelican (through Oct 22nd) then Nevermore (beginning the 24th). Openers Fireball Ministry (through Oct 30) then Into Eternity (beginning the 31st) have recently been added to the bill.

This week's International chart debuts for GHOST REVERIES were equally exciting...

Netherlands 'Scherpe Rand van Platenland' charts - #1
Swedish charts - #4.
Finnish charts - #11.
Norwegian charts - #21
Australian charts - #35
Dutch charts - #38
German charts - #39
United Kingdom charts - #62
French charts - #72
Danish charts - #84

With notoriously lengthy songs (many surpassing the 8-minute mark) the band are just hitting their stride after about 30 minutes playing music, about the length of their sets on the summer of 2005's SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND tour. "After only being able to play 3 or 4 songs on SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND, it will be great to have the freedom to do a 90-minute set encompassing our wide repertoire," says vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt of the band's extended stage time on this outing.

Kerrang! has praised GHOST REVERIES as "The best album that anyone will produce this year," and The Aquarian Weekly agrees saying it has "decimated any competition (for best metal release of the year)." Critics all over the world are celebrating OPETH's ability to weave an intricate sonic web unlike any on the rock scene today. Witness the conjuration for yourself!

Fans will be able to purchase a limited supply of advance tickets for these dates at a reduced rate through this link http://tixx1.artistarena.com/opeth/. The first 13 groups of 4 who purchase tickets online in each market will receive after-show passes to meet the band.

Mnemic Confirm Departure Of Lead Singer

The rumors are true - Mnemic have parted ways with frontman Michael Bøgballe.

Commented on the band: “It is sad it has come to this, but Michael has chosen a different path in his life and wishes to leave the band. This last weekend, we did our last gig together in Gothenburg, Sweden – which was one of the most intense and energetic gigs we have ever done, and this night will not be forgotten for a very long time. Thanks to all of our friends in Impious, Engel, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy and most important Patric Ullaeus, who came out and made it all special for everybody! We now would like to take this time to wish Michael all the best and good luck in future endeavours.”

Michael has a few farewell words to say as well, to all of you out there wondering.

“It is with great sadness that I must announce my departure from Mnemic. From today I´m no longer officially the singer of Mnemic. There´s a thousand ways to put this but none seem just accurate right now, so I´m just gonna be honest with ya all. There are two main reasons in my life for doing this. One is that my girlfriend is pregnant with my baby and I therefore want to spend some more time at home. Second is , that I´m sick and tired of being broke all the time. This is by far the hardest decision I ever had to make cuz I love the metal, the tours and the band. What we did together, no one can take that away from me and I´ll remember every country we´ve visited for as long as I live. And to the people I´ve met on the road and all the fans: Thank you so much for being there. You made all the difference to me.....

"I know for sure that the remaining four boys in Mnemic will not slow down. We part as best friends and will remain so......You guys are the shit!! Thank you

"And Bobo from the Summerbreeze Festival: Fuck you!

"Goodbye everybody....I had a blast...and who knows.....maybe we´ll see each other somewhere in the future...........

"Michael”

With Michaels imminent departure, former Transport League/B-Thong singer Tony Jelencovich will step into the machine to take over vocal duties.

Commented on the band: “Tony has been a long time friend of the band, and we are 100% confident that he is the right man for the job!”

"Also SPECIAL THANKS to video director Patric Ullaeus and his wife Tara at ww.Revolver.se spending time with the band to do another brilliant shoot in Gothenburg this weekend.

"This line up change will NOT, in any way, effect Mnemic's North American Fall tour with Meshuggah, God Forbid and The Haunted.

"More news to come!

The Haunted Checks In With Post-Ozzfest Update

Ozzfest 2005 has now come to a close but The Haunted's U.S. and Canadian touring insanity continues early next month on The Fury of The Fall tour this October alongside Meshuggah, God Forbid and Mnemic, which leads them directly into a massive European trek with labelmates God Forbid. Their new video for “No Compromise,” taken from their latest critically acclaimed offering "rEVOLVEr," was shot by acclaimed director Roger Johansson (In Flames, Soilwork). Look for it now on Headbangers Ball and Metal Asylum.

Peter Dolving (vocals) checks in with the following post Ozzfest report: “Nine weeks passed and it’s been so intense that we can barely make out what really happened. Ozzfest 2005 was a journey through good old rock n’ roll chaos. Drugs, sex, violence, nudity, slander, backstabbing and handshaking all backed up by a soundtrack of great metal. Sweet. I have these incidents that keep coming back to me: Bury Your Dead stealing golf cars; watching certain people running from the law trippin’ on acid; me playing with The Haunted in front of 8,000 people – naked; The Sharon vs. Dickinson thing; Brian of Black Dahlia Murder getting busted by the cops for getting naked while doing a publicity thing for FUSE TV; Jada Pinkett Smith with the house full of Body Count and Fishbone-legendaries throwing barbecues; As I lay Dying – who wouldn’t let us say FUCK on their bus – well, FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK! Now there I said it.

“All in all, it’s been a great fucking tour, and we’ve made some good friends along the way. I want to thank all those fans who have shown up at the shows and all those of you out there who have picked up our latest album, rEVOLVEr, during the last couple of months; it seems you’re all giving this album a well deserved second running, fuckin’ sweet! Spread the word and we feel honoured to have been able to play in front of so many people this summer. Seeing your faces in the crowd singing along and just tearing shit up warms our ugly insides. Well, we will be back in the U.S. in October together with our brothers Meshuggah and God Forbid, and we hope to see you all then. For now, it’s time to go home for a couple of weeks to reload and cock up again. See you all real soon.”

Lacuna Coil Begin Tracking New Album

Lacuna Coil entered the studio on September 3rd to begin tracking "Karmacode," the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed commercial breakthrough album, "Comalies." The new effort is currently being co-produced once again with Waldemar Sorychta and Lacuna Coil and will be mixed by the acclaimed Ronald Prent (Rammstein, H.I.M., Iron Maiden) and mastered by Darcy Proper (Steely Dan, Porcupine Tree, R.E.M.) at Galaxy Studios in Belgium. An early 2006 release is expected.

Andrea Ferro (vocals) describes the meaning behind the album's unique title: "When it came to coming up with an album title I wanted to combine one 'old' word that is spiritually connected with another that offers a link to our more 'modern' times. If there were an actual translation of 'Karmacode' it would be something like 'spiritual DNA and the message behind it'. The title attempts to balance our modern, overwhelming, self-centered, fast-paced lifestyles and the desire we all have to live a more spiritual, more compassionate and more fulfilling life."

Upcoming live dates:
Oct. 22 Belgium (Female Voices of Metal 3 Festival)

UK Tour:
Oct. 26 London - Scala
Oct. 27 Manchester - Manchester Academy 3

Arch Enemy Reschedule UK Tour

According to antiMUSIC.com, Arch Enemy have reluctantly taken the decision to RESCHEDULE their September UK shows until December due to the loss of the advertised and proposed support bands. Dark Tranquillity recently pulled out of the tour, and despite all the efforts of band, label and management, it has not been possible to find two adequate International acts to replace them at such short notice.

In today's market it is essential to give fans a great package that offers value for money, much as the Swedish Apocalypse show did last Christmas. It is the bands intention to use the intervening time to put together a great line-up that will give the fans more metal for their money.

All September tickets are 100% valid for the rescheduled December dates. In London, The Forum show has now moved to The Astoria where all tickets will still be valid.

The new dates are as follows:

Dec. 12 Cardiff, Coal Exchange
Dec. 13 Wolverhampton, Wulfrun
Dec. 14 Glasgow, QMU
Dec. 15 Manchester, Academy 2
Dec. 16 London, Astoria

The band apologises for any inconvenience caused, but nevertheless feels that rescheduling these dates is the lesser of two evils.

Wylde: When Ozzy Tells Me To Jump, I Ask How High?

David Priest of OnTrackMagazine recently interviewed Black Label Society guitarist, Zakk Wylde. Here's an excerpt from the interview:

OT: In light of your success with Black Label, recently there was an announcement made that Ozzy is seeking a new guitar player to work on his next solo effort. He also stated that he knows you would be on board for anything that he does but he didn’t want to pull you away from Black Label. What are your feelings on this?

Zakk: Ozzy knows I’ll always be there for him. What comes around goes around, ‘cause I remember Ozzy, awhile ago when he was lookin’ for a guitar player, he goes, ‘Zakk, it’s a nightmare.’ When I first arrived on the scene I was comin’ in at the end of the 80’s and guitar players were a lot better, then the solos kinda went, but what’s old is new again and what’s new is old. I’ve just always figured that you just gotta know how to play your instrument, you know what I mean? As far as today goes there’s a lot of potential within the rest of the Black Label Chapters. There’s a whole bunch of kids, and they’re all like seventeen years old, eighteen years old, and they all play, like, ten hours a day and you love jammin’ again, you know what I mean? When I got the job with Ozzy, there were actually some decent guitar players around, I just happened to fall through the cracks.

OT: So are you gonna pursue writing with him and recording with him again?

Zakk: Um yeah, I mean the bottom line is, with Oz, he makes the calls, he’s the boss, you know what I mean? Whenever he tells me to jump, I ask, ‘how high?’ With us it’s real easy, Sharon calls Barbara Ann, my wife, and goes, ‘Tell the idiot to be down at rehearsals on Wednesday.’ ‘What time?’ ‘Tell him to be there at 1 O’clock.’

OT: But I’ve seen people just kind of part like the red sea when you’re walkin’ across the grass at Ozzfest, or whatever. People are like, ‘Oh shit get outta the way.’

Zakk: Naw that’s just because I never bathe and that’s the stench that is blowin’ through. (Laughter) They don’t go, ‘Oh it’s Zakk Wylde.’ Or it’s ‘Icky Bulby,’ or whatever the heck my name is. They just go, ‘What is that f*ckin’ rancid stench? I’m gettin’ the f*ck outta here!’ (Laughter) It’s just all a facade, man, it’s all smoke and mirrors, I just smell like prison cunt so everyone just walks outta the way. And people go, ‘Man, look at the pure power!’ Behold the power of the ass! (Lots of laughing) Holy shit!

OT: (Laughing) Right on! Y’know, I know that you’re a big supporter of our troops and, in passing, I’ve found that there are some who are offended that there are recruiters on site at this year’s Ozzfest. What’s your take on their presence being there and also on those who feel it’s out of place.

Zakk: Well, put it this way, a bunch of my buddies ended up in the service, they were all older than me that at the time they were like, ‘Dude, I don’t know what I want to do with my life.’ The military, for a lot of those guys, it’s an awesome place to go. I’m just saying, war time’s war time, but I’m talkin’ like, recruitin’, ‘cause a lot of times you go into the service and a lot of people just think you’re goin’ in ‘cause you wanta go shoot people. But ya learn a trade, it’s like goin’ to college, you’re doin’ something that you wanta do. It’s better than sittin’ around on your Mom and Dad’s f*ckin’ couch ‘til you’re 38 years old, you know what I mean?

OT: Yeah absolutely. I guess the report was they felt that Ozzfest attendee’s would make good soldiers.

Zakk: I don’t believe that, but the bottom line is - if you don’t know what you wanta do with your life then the military’s a great thing. It’s just like, it’ll give you direction and focus, you know? If you don’t have any drive… ‘cause I was gonna have my nephew go into the military just ‘cause he’s sittin’ on the couch all day. I’m like, ‘Dude, what are you doin’?’ I mean ya can’t play video games all day, sumin’ wrong with it.’ I’m all, ‘Matt, unless you’re gonna be makin’ a couple hundred grand playin’ video game competitions, man, I go, ‘Dude, ya ain’t sittin’ on my couch eatin’ food all day, you and your buddies.’ ‘Ya need to get a f*ckin’ job or do sumthin’ with your life.’

EMI: KoRn Represents 25 Million Dollar Investment

The partnership between KORN and EMI Music is most accurately described as a $25 million investment by EMI in a new company that is "in the KORN business," according to one familiar with the negotiations. Thus, rather than shelling out an advance to the band, as would happen in the traditional artist-label relationship, EMI will function as a profit participant in the band's business for two LPs and their accompanying cycles. The arrangement is characterized by insiders as a series of separate deals from the various revenue streams that live within the context of the new KORN partnership.

The challenge facing the two parties, says one in the know, was to find a way to align the interests of the label with those of the artist, so that the decisions made would ultimately benefit both parties. The concept behind this arrangement, the same source clarifies, was to make the pie bigger for everyone, so that the artists and their partners both make money.

The chief negotiators of the deal were band attorney Gary Stiffelman, who is co-counsel to KORN, along with John Branca (both are with Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca & Fischer) and EMI business affairs exec Ian Hanson. Significantly, it was initiated by EMI rulers Levy and Munns after they’d listened to the completed KORN album, the quality and potential of which compelled them to enter into this intricate, mathematically complex partnership with the band.

Mustaine Says He Cant Wait For Gigantour 2

Well, I am back at home, have decompressed from the plane, celebrated my official birthday (thank you all for the wishes, gifts, cards, and emails), and am getting over a helluva bout with tour sickness. I don't know if it is something I got at the last show, or I was just sick all along and finally putting the Big Redheaded Machine into park has allowed it all to catch up with me.

"Anyway, as you know, MEGADETH put out 'The System Has Failed' in September of 2004 and after touring the world, excluding the last four remaining dates south of the equator it has been a tremendous success. Sure there were hard times with putting a band together, taking the painful barbs thrown by people who didn't think (or want) me to go on, dealing with guests that I could not spend the time I had wanted to be with them or that they had wanted to be with me and the ensuing problems that followed that, and lastly the constant sickness that followed the tour.

"Add to that the legal matters, like leaving Sanctuary, trying to get the Greatest Hits together, trying to get the DVD together containing all the old videos and threats from people not to be included or wrangling with other licensers to get permission to use the footage, and you see how this was a feat for me or anyone to pull off.

"But I did, and it would never have happened without your love and support, and undying encouragement. I will never forget this last year. Seeing all of you around the globe was a delight for me, but even more so to see my band meeting you all and how loved you made them feel.

"So, this thing called Gigantour was born at the last minute, and because of my relationship with bands that went out with me and MEGADETH, I feel we had a great time. In retrospect, there were a few things I would do differently, but not much. It was a sad day when we lost THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, and when the time came to say, 'So long' to DREAM THEATER and SYMPHONY X, and we were all disappointed with the DRY KILL LOGIC bus breaking down and not having them finish out the tour, but I believe they know how much I loved them and was grateful for all of their time we shared until we said goodbye.

"The last shows with ANTHRAX and the remaining Gigantour 2005 bands; FEAR FACTORY, NEVERMORE, LIFE OF AGONY, and BOBAFLEX came and went too fast. I have only the best things to say about these fine bands and wish them all tremendous amounts of success in the years to come. I also believe that if Gigantour continues on for as many years as I hoped that we will see them again. If not, I hope to grace a stage with them somewhere else in time again soon.

"Lastly, to you, the fans that came out to see the 'Blackmail The Universe' tour or Gigantour . . . what can I say other than you made my dream come true. I love you and am indebted to your faith in me, in the other bands that you may have been fans of and came out for, and importantly most just for supporting our scene. As I write this letter to you all we are already starting the necessary work to make Gigantour 2006 competitive with the inaugural run, and I hope to make even more friends out on the 'Killing Road' with people like yourselves, and the bands that stood by me. Check back in every once in a while to see when I announce the next Gigantour, the next year's talent, and when and where you can see us again.

"I usually close concerts with, 'You've been great, we've been MEGADETH, goodnight!' but that just doesn't seem right today. I think that you've been more than great and we've all been MEGADETH! Time will crawl for me until I can see your faces again and deliver the goods to my North American friends.

"I love you my Droogies and She Wolves!

"Come on, Gigantour 2!"
