Greenleaf To Release New Album In June

Swedish heavy rockers Greenleaf has released a tongue-in-cheek video clip and super catchy tune "Breathe, Breathe Out" as the first driving single taken from forthcoming full-length "The Head & The Habit," which is slated for release on June 21st.

Greenleaf comments: "The first single 'Breathe, Breathe Out' conveys a message of self-reflection and resilience", explains vocalist Arvid Hällagård. "The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the importance of taking a moment to relax and let go of negative emotions. The overall theme encourages embracing one's current state, appreciating what you have, and navigating through life with a sense of control and acceptance. I've had to teach these things to myself during the last couple of years. This is also the overall theme of the album, the head and its habits."

Tracklisting:

1. Breathe, Breathe Out
2. Avalanche
3. Different Horses
4. A Wolfe in My Mind
5. That Obsidian Grin
6. The Sirens Sound

Heavy Temple Posts New Single Online

Heavy Temple has dropped a respectfully tasty nod towards doom giants Candlemass with their catchy new single "House Of Warship," which is taken from the psychedelic fast-risers' forthcoming sophomore full-length. "Garden of Heathens" is slated for release on April 12.

"The Candlemass influence is pretty up front on this track, but we were also thinking Flower Traveling Band meets 'Animal Magnetism'-era Scorpions", singer and bass player High Priestess Nighthawk reveals. "The lyrics of 'House of Warship' deal with being lied to or being manipulated, while pouring oneself into something or someone – and the self-loathing that comes with the realization of falling for that intentional deception." Anthrax Taps Ex Bassist Danny Lilker For Shows

Today, Anthrax announces that, due to personal reasons, bassist Frank Bello will not be able to accompany the band on its upcoming South American tour, set to kick off April 13 at MXMF the Metal Fest. Filling in on those dates, as well as two U.S. festival shows in May, will be Anthrax founding member and original bassist Dan Lilker, marking his first appearance with the band in 40 years. Lilker, who co-wrote and played on Anthrax’s debut album "Fistful Of Metal," was also a member of Stormtroopers of Death with Charlie Benante and Scott Ian.

"I'm really looking forward to jamming with Anthrax again," said Lilker. "When we parted ways back in 1984, they told me to stick around because they might need me in 40 years."

Added the band, "We’re all very excited about with playing with Danny again, and we really appreciate his filling in for Frank. It’s been way too long since we played South America, so you don’t want to miss these shows, they’re going to be insane."

Lilker has not been idle over the past four decades, having played in a wide variety of bands. He was the bassist for the thrash/metal band Nuclear Assault and the grindcore band Brutal Truth. He also plays bass for Exit-13, Malformed Earthborn, The Ravenous, Overlord Exterminator, Venomous Concept, and more.

Tyr Shares "Dragons Never Die" Music Video

Faroe Islands-based Viking metallers Tyr has unveiled their latest single, "Dragons Never Die." The track comes by way of the band‘s stunning ninth full-length studio album, "Battle Ballads," set for release on April 12th via Metal Blade Records!

Once crowned, "powerful, heroic and memorable," by New Noise and lauded by Exclaim for, "expertly balancing power and death metal" and perfecting, "the Viking metal formula,” with Battle Ballads, Tyr has crafted an album that resounds with their trademark Viking metal sound -- a crushing, soaring, batch of classical embellished songs that conjure images of galloping steeds, clashing swords, and hard-fought victories. At the same time, the band has experimented with new writing styles and musical techniques and created songs that are structurally simpler, yet musically more variegated. For founding frontman Heri Joensen, it‘s a clear illustration of how he plans to continue exploring different approaches in the future while staying true to the spirit of thunderous Viking metal.

"We consciously decided to make this a more direct album with songs that are easier for listeners to get right away than some of the stuff on our last album, or maybe even on our 2006 album Ragnarok, which was very progressive,” says Joensen. “With Battle Ballads, there are progressive elements here and there, but we tried to keep the songs based on one or two musical ideas each, and work on everything from there. So, in a way, it‘s more concise than our last album, but it‘s more epic because of the symphonic elements."

There‘s no escaping the masterfully meticulous blend of melody and savagery on "Battle Ballads." Notes Joensen of the band‘s "Dragons Never Die" single, "The song starts with a long harmonic crescendo on drums and guitar reminiscent of classical Deep Purple, then shifts an eastern inspired melodic journey back in time with wordless singalong parts, going into a rhythmically simple and stomping verse about a gold-grabbing dragon and a protagonist set on defeating it. It‘s a fast and riveting chorus. The metal story progresses and culminates into a face melting solo. With the last chorus, the protagonist finds that becoming rich beyond measure just makes him the next dragon." More...
