Unearthing the Metal Underground: Nebelkrahe
Germany has been the home of noteworthy black metal for years, ranging from the more conventional stylings of Nagelfar to the absolutely odd-ball, left-field approach of Tsatthoggua or the more atmospheric and doom-driven material from The Ruins of Beverast. For nearly 20 years, Nebelkrähe has been challenging themselves and what black metal can be. Cognizance Premiere New Single & Music Video
UK, technical death metal outfit Cognizance has consistently embraced the inclusion of impactful, chunky grooves within their technical death metal sound. Their latest single, "The Towering Monument," further underscores this commitment. Today the band is unveiling a video of this single, showcasing the five-piece band effortlessly tearing through the track.
What's striking about this technical metal piece is its remarkable groove, even as it seamlessly transitions between different riffs. Cognizance maintains a tight grip on the listener's attention, making "The Towering Monument" an exhilarating track that intuitively flows from start to finish.
Drummer David Diepold (also Obscura, ex-Monument Of Misanthropy) plays a pivotal role in maintaining both consistency and innovation. He skillfully complements the intricate guitar rhythms, injecting freshness with his groove variations that sometimes surpass the string work's complexity. Speaking of exceptional performances, it's worth highlighting vocalist Henry Pryce's approach, marked by a refusal to engage in typical death metal vocal delivery clichés. His avoidance of direct camera stares and exaggerated movements adds to the band's distinct style. More...
