Himsa and The Acacia Strain Plan US Tour In 2006

HIMSA and THE ACACIA STRAIN will be teaming out to tear through the United States this February and March. The Prosthetic label-mates will help round out the melting pot of sounds along a string of North American dates that also features Dead To Fall, A Life Once Lost, and headliners Darkest Hour. Running the gamut from hardcore-infused metal to melodic death metal and back, Seattle’s HIMSA will offer direct support on the bill, while THE ACACIA STRAIN will supply crowds with the chest-crushing heaviness they have all but trademarked.

HIMSA will be on the road supporting their latest melodic-thrash tour de force, Hail Horror, which will see a Feb. 7 release through Prosthetic. No strangers to the road, HIMSA was most recently a part of Danzig’s Blackest of the Black 2005 tour, and is currently gearing up for a December run through Europe alongside 3 Inches of Blood, showcasing tunes from the band’s new album.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts’ THE ACACIA STRAIN will be touring in support of Victims, the band’s new full-length, set for a March 2006 release. The band has been playing regional gigs throughout New England in recent weeks, in preparation to entering the studio Dec. 1 to record new songs with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage, All That Remains), who was previously responsible for the bludgeoning sound of 3750, the band’s last record.

Darkest Hour, Himsa, The Acacia Strain, A Life Once Lost, Dead To Fall tour dates are as follows: More...

Abysmal Dawn Finish Album, Seek Label

Abysmal Dawn, an extreme metal band from Los Angeles featuring former Rise and Inhuman Visions members, has just put the finishing touches on their debut release entitled "From Ashes." The group is currently looking for a record company to release the album. The following update was recently given on their site:

"Our gig with Exodus at the Galaxy went great! Thanks to all the crazy fans in the pit area who were fucking things up and even the ones banging their heads towards the back. You made it a killer experience as always! Also, a very special thanks is in order for Jacob from Gatekeeper and Elizabeth Schall for all their extra help at this show. Things wouldn't have run as smoothly as they did without you.

We have just finished recording and mixing our debut release entitled "From Ashes." The album was engineered, mixed and mastered by John Haddad (Eyes of Fire, Phobia, Intronaut) at Shiva Industries in Santa Ana, CA. We have to say it came out heavy as hell and we're positive it will rip your face right fucking off! If you don't believe us check out four new songs from the album, as well as the cover art, at the following location myspace.com/abysmaldawn. Here's the final track listing: More...

Throwdown Preparing For Arch Enemy Tour

THROWDOWN have just wrapped up their national tour with SOULFLY. However not before THROWDOWN vocalist Dave Peters joined SOULFLY on stage in L.A., Tucson and Anaheim to perform some of his favorite SEPULTURA songs — "Refuse/Resist" and "Territory". Max Cavalera, who helms SOULFLY, was previously in SEPULTURA, which was a huge influence on countless metal and hardcore bands for their uncompromising brutality and outspokenness. THROWDOWN, who are also known for their hard-hitting brand of hardcore with metal elements, have been covering SEPULTURA's song "Roots Bloody Roots" for years.

Commented Peters: "We were sending a song out to Max every night, he invited me up to his bus to hang out and we talked about how THROWDOWN had been covering 'Roots Bloody Roots' for years and how people brought it up in interviews he had done. He thought it was strange but cool that a hardcore band was covering his songs. He joked about us playing the song and him singing it and it eventually turned into me doing one of my favorite SEPULTURA songs with them."

THROWDOWN, who hail from Orange County, CA, were in their home element when Peters joined SOULFLY on stage. "I felt like a child that got picked for the Make A Wish foundation. I came in too early the first night cause I was so nervous, which I felt dumb about considering I have known that song for thirteen years. It was pretty sweet watching Max play that song at the first Ozzfest in 1996 from 300 yards back to helping him play it a few feet away."

THROWDOWN tour dates w/ ARCH ENEMY and STRAPPING YOUNG LAD:

Dec. 12 - Cardiff, UK - Coal Exchange
Dec. 13 - Manchester, UK - MDH
Dec. 14 - Glasgow, UK - QMU
Dec. 15 - London, UK - The Forum
Dec. 16 - Wolverhampton, UK - Wolfun Hall
Dec. 18 - York, UK - Fibbers
Dec. 19 - Oxford, UK - Zodiac
Dec. 20 - London, UK - Barfly

Kissworld Stock To Be Auctioned Next Month

The people behind the aborted official KISS store KissWorld — a gleaming, 10,000-square-foot building in Melbourne, Australia which was originally envisioned as a place where fans could sit in a mini-theater and watch concert footage of the band belting out arena hits like "Rock 'n' Roll All Nite" and also buy KISS merchandise — have issued the following press release:

"Following our press release of the 20th of June, the KissWorld closure is continuing but it is a long and painful process. It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that under instructions from our bankers, the KissWorld stock is to be auctioned on the 15th of December 2005. The Charles Leski auction house in Melbourne Australia will be staging the auction, which will be accessable to all KISS fans, collectors and investors around the world.

"The auction will include some very rare pieces such as the one-of-a-kind Dave Ashman airbrushed KISS surfboard, (The Purple Rose), Gene's [Simmons] leather jacket signed by all four members, Bruce Kulick's signature guitar, the KissWorld building's eight huge external murals, 'Rock the Nations' signed lithographs and many other rare pieces. This is it so grab your piece of Kisstory before it disappears for good, because good or bad, KissWorld is a part of the KISS journey.

"To view the items being auctioned, obtain the price range and a bidding form; please visit either of the following websites: www.kissworld.net, www.leski.com.au.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank those members of staff, the artists and the fans who helped us to get KissWorld off the ground and who stuck by us during the difficult times.

"You wanted the best, you almost had the best, KissWorld!"

Black Sabbath To Finally Get Hall of Fame Nod

Heavy metal godfathers, BLACK SABBATH will finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (after being nominated eight times) during the institution's 21st annual ceremony on March 13th in New York City. Other bands being inducted during the ceremony include the SEX PISTOLS and LYNYRD SKYNYRD.

In 1999, SABBATH frontman OZZY OSBOURNE sent the Hall a letter which sums up the Hall's importance:

"Just take our name off the list. Save the ink. Forget about us. The nomination is meaningless, because it's not voted on by the fans. It's voted on by the supposed elite for the industry and the media, who've never bought an album or concert ticket in their lives, so their vote is irrelevant to me. Let's face it, BLACK SABBATH has never been media darlings. We're a people's band and that suits us just fine."

Guitar Pioneer Link Wray Dies at 76

Reuters reports that musician Link Wray, best-known for his 1958 instrumental single "Rumble," died of unspecified causes November 5 in Copenhagen. He was 76. In a career that spanned six decades, Wray made his mark with a piercing guitar sound that paved the way for punk and heavy metal. He is credited with inventing the power chord and pioneering distortion by deliberately punching holes in his amplifier.

His music has appeared in such movies as "Pulp Fiction," "Independence Day" and "Desperado." Wray is said to have inspired Pete Townshend, Bruce Springsteen, "Little" Steven Van Zandt and other well-known artists. In 2002, Wray was named one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time by Guitar World magazine. He gave his last performance in Los Angeles in July. He is survived by his wife and son.

Metal Music, Devil Worship Blamed In Teen's Murder

Imran Ali of the Trinidad & Tobago Express is reporting that heavy metal music is being blamed for sucking a young man into a world of devil worship and drug use and is being mounted as a defense in his trial for murdering his teenaged cousin.

Though two men, 21-year-old Osei Lazare and 28-year-old Marcus Daniel, are charged with the death of 16-year-old Suzette Gibson, the focus of the first day of the trial immediately shifted to Daniel yesterday (Wednesday, Nov. 23) when the claim was made by his lawyer, Pamela Elder SC.

Several witnesses admitted to her that her client — who was Gibson's cousin — regularly listened to heavy metal music, that his bedroom was decorated with skeletons and that he drank heavily.

Daniel's music collection and tattoos came under scrutiny.

One witness said Daniel listened to artists such as shock rockers MARILYN MANSON, OZZY OSBOURNE, ALICE COOPER and other metal bands such as SLIPKNOT and ANTHRAX.

He also had the tattoo of an upside down cross on one arm — which Elder called the symbol of the Antichrist.

Daniel's friend, Riaz Ali told the jury: "I recall the lyrics of one song. It went 'Devil man, devil man, you got in my head, devil man, devil man... right in my heart.'"

Necrophobic Enter The Studio

Necrophobic have posted this message on their official website:

"Today, we started the recording of the new, fifth full length album. We will try to run a regular update regarding the progress of the recording process right here on the website. No titles of either the album or any songs will be released at this moment, but as soon as it's time for it, you will get the information here.
There are a lot of new things happening right now. The studio we're using for this album is a total unknown studio. It's called Dark Voodoo Studio and we will work with new persons as well. The engineering parts will be done by Anders Bentell and Fredrik Folkare (the later known for being guitarist and producer of Unleashed).
Apart from that, we will also have a new record label for this new album. We recently ended the deal of any forthcoming new albums with Karmageddon Media (ex Hammerheart Records). More revelaling stuff regarding this matter later on, as well as a possible release schedule/release date."
