Anaal Nathrakh Returns To London With Full Force
Look up the most influential or acclaimed comedies of all time and you'll always see The Odd Couple. This might be a strange way to start a review of a metal gig, but when you think about it, metal shows are often at their best when they offer variety, or a combination that you wouldn't normally expect to see. So it was on April 14th in London, when British blackened industrial grindcore outfit Anaal Nathrakh teamed up with Japanese avant-garde black metal legends Sigh to put on a Hell of a show in every sense of the word.
Appropriately, it was a freezing cold night in the English capital city, with no shortage of ice and a little snow outside before eventually heading inside to the Scala. Despite personally attending live shows in London for nearly twenty years, this was my first visit to the Scala, which hopefully won't be my last. The Scala combines the grandiose feel of an old theatre upon entrance, while in the gig room itself, for lack of a better term, it provides a two tiered space with an area for those who like to be down the front and dirty, as well as those who have done their time in the pit and prefer to stand in the back.
Opening the show, those who arrived early were treated to a little local flavour as London's own De Profundis took to the stage around seven. While their time was short, they more than made the most of it, unleashing twenty five minutes of heaviness and anti-authoritarian death metal. As one might expect, the set focused heavily on the band's new album, "The Corruption Of Virtue," released only two months prior. These songs, such as "Weaponised Rape" and "Scapegoat" sat perfectly beside opener, "Martyrs" and closing number, "War Be Upon Him," both taken from "The Blinding Light Of Faith." A short stay, but a memorable one and De Profundis continue to make a name for themselves as one of Britain's leading death metal acts. More...

De Profundis Goes "Beyond The Threshold"
U.K.'s De Profundis issued a new video clip for the classic track "Beyond The Threshold" (courtesy of Zero Tolerance at this location, or just in the player at the bottom), which shows the band at its twisted and technical best. "Beyond The Threshold" originally appeared on the album "Kingdom Of The Blind," but has been especially remastered for this video presentation by Tom Sullivan, the man responsible for the powerful remastering work on De Profundis’ recent career retrospective album "Decayed: 2007–2017."
The sonically enhanced "Beyond The Threshold" is accompanied by professionally filmed footage of the band performing the track at London’s Tufnell Park Dome and the combined sounds and images make for a magnificent representation of one of the heaviest and most inventive death metal bands on the scene.

De Profundis Issues First Ever Lyric Video
Today, U.K.'s De Profundis issued its first ever lyric video, which was created by Andy Pilkington of Very Metal Art (Flotsam And Jetsam, etc). The macabre images accompany a gruesome new song entitled "An Orgy Of Grotesqueries" that tells a tale of lustful goings on among the reanimated dead.
"An Orgy Of Grotesqueries" was recorded especially for a new retrospective compilation that De Profundis is releasing as part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations. The album, called "Decayed: 2007–2017," will be available exclusively with issue 079 of Zero Tolerance Magazine. 10,000 copies of the CD will be given away with the world’s number one extreme music publication. As well as "An Orgy Of Grotesqueries," "Decayed..." will feature a range of tracks from across De Profundis’ recording career – all remastered for this release. The album will come in a special sleeve, created for the band by renowned artist Gary Ronaldson, known for his work with the likes of Misery Index, Napalm Death and Kreator.
"An Orgy Of Grotesqueries" will also be being performed live, when De Profundis takes the anniversary celebrations on the road, touring across Europe with David Vincent’s I Am Morbid, the godfathers of gore, Necrophagia, Helsott and The Heretic Order. More...

De Profundis Parts Ways With Drummer
De Profundis has issued the following announcement about parting ways with drummer Nick Tingle:
"END OF AN ERA: It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Nick Tingle (drums) and De Profundis have parted ways after six years together. Nick was an essential part in forging De Profundis sound from the second album onwards and during this time we had the privilege to watch him mature as a drummer and musician overall.
"After years of doing music for practically no remuneration Nick has discovered the world of permanent employment and earning money in the process. We came together to the conclusion that he wouldn’t be able to contribute to the band like he has in the past and therefore didn’t want to hold us back.
"Although we didn’t know it at the time, Bloodstock turned out to be his last show with De Profundis and ironically it was his first gig with us back in 2008! Nice way to bow out.
"As sad a departure as this is, De Profundis has gathered a lot of momentum since the release of the Frequencies EP which we couldn’t let slip. We are therefore proud to welcome Tom Atherton (Carpathia, Phyrexia) to our ranks as our new drummer.
"For those of you who came to see us on the Malevolent Creation tour, you may have noticed Tom on the drums already as he was depping for Nick. Tom kindly stepped in a the last minute and learnt the songs in one week and had two rehearsals with us before setting off for what turned out to be our best tour so far. If you know what the drumming on a De Profundis song requires then you will understand what an incredible feat that was. When the position for a new drummer opened Tom was keen on joining us and taking the band forward.
"So please join us in welcoming Tom to De Profundis and once again we would like to thank Nick for all his hard work and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. You will be missed but not forgotten.
"See you all shortly on the road." More...
