Cult Of Luna Posts Remixed Track

Sweden’s Cult of Luna today reveals a new remix from producer Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu). Broadrick tackles the 18+-minute track “Vicarious Redemption” from Cult of Luna’s recent studio album, "Vertikal." Check out the track below.

"It was both a pleasure and a challenge to work on such an sprawling epic song,” Broadrick commented. “(There was) so much material to choose from and to attempt to refocus in my own context, and a challenge to make something new and concise which resonates like the original."

"When I was 14 years old, my friend taught my how to play guitar,” adds Cult of Luna’s Johannes Persson. “We spent hours listening to songs and then trying to play them. One of the records he had was the Streetcleaner LP that since has been continuously in my rotation for almost 20 years, so listening to Justin’s remix of 'Vicarious Redemption' kind of felt like going full circle. Justin has created something new with the elements of the song which, in my opinion, is the only way to justify a remix."

Cult of Luna is in the midst of an extensive worldwide touring schedule with plans in the works to bring the band to the Unites States later in 2013. More...

Cult Of Luna Live Footage Available

Footage has been posted online of Cult of Luna performing the song "In Awe Of" in Paris, courtesy of YouTube user Bizkitos Del Toro. Check out the clip below. The track comes off of the band's recently released album "Vertikal." The following press release was issued about the album:

"Vertikal marks a much-anticipated return for Cult of Luna after five years spent cultivating the ideas and directing the influences that have helped form a concept for the album. Distilled throughout are themes of machinery, repetition and clear, linear structures honed to the visual imagery of Fritz Lang’s classic expressionist science-fiction film ‘Metropolis.’ The music broods, builds and boils as you may expect from Cult of Luna, but never over-complicates itself or veers from its intentions; it is arguably their finest and most cohesive piece of work to date." Cult Of Luna Comments On New Album

Indie Recordings is proud to announce the signing of Cult of Luna, and as was previously announced, the new album “Vertikal” will be released on January 25th in G/A/S and January 29th worldwide, excluding North America.

The band had this to say about the making of the new studio album: ”The album will be released at the beginning of the year, and is thematically influenced by the film ‘Metropolis’: a hypnotic backdrop of machinery and repetition. Before we started writing we were keen to find a theme that in a very direct way could be shown through the music, and we hope to have achieved this. We developed clear structures – very linear, refusing to over complicate the writing process."

Cult of Luna was formed in 1998 in Sweden and released a self-titled debut album three years later. In 2003 Cult of Luna released the album “The Beyond,” which led to the band's first European tour as support for Isis, Poison the Well, and Dillinger Escape Plan. A massive European tour followed and not long after the group got a support slot for the one and only Mastodon in the U.S. in 2005.

The band released “Somewhere Along The Highway” in 2007 and won a rock/metal award from the Swedish Radio channel P3 “for the will and courage to expand and bring new dimensions to the metal genre.” One year later Cult of Luna released “Eternal Kingdom” and in 2011 the band finally began working on what was to become the new album “Vertikal."

album from Cult of Luna, guitarist Johannes Persson recently gave a track-by-track explanation of the songs from the upcoming album. To hear Johannes discussing the meanings behind the songs over exclusive clips from the songs themselves, head to http://www.myspace.com/cultoflunaeternalkingdom.

Based on an actual journal found in an old mental home, "Eternal Kingdom" takes listeners on a weird and wonderful journey through the mind of a former patient as he tells the tale of how his wife came to be murdered and of the mythical creatures he claims to have encountered during the time of the harrowing event.

The fifth album from Cult of Luna, "Eternal Kingdom" was recorded at Tonteknik Studios in the band's hometown of Umea and was produced by Magnus Lindberg. "Eternal Kingdom" will be released on June 16th in the UK/Europe and July 8th in the USA.

Cult Of Luna Guitarist Explains Album Artwork

The following press release has been announced:

CULT OF LUNA founder and guitarist Johannes Persson gives fans a major treat as he gives them a taste of what is in store for them on the band's fifth full-length release, "Eternal Kingdom".

"The world of the 'Eternal Kingdom' is harsh and hostile and that was something we felt was needed to express through the music. The turn to a harder and heavier sound was also very welcomed on our side after two albums of exploring atmospheric and meditative music."

The recently released artwork of "Eternal Kingdom" also has a deep connection to the music contained within.

"The artwork is inspired by old woodcuts and it is definitely the right way of maintain and amplify the harshness of the 'Eternal Kingdom'. With the Man/Owl king in the middle, it is a perfect visual representation of how the album is going to sound."

Cult Of Luna's new album "Eternal Kingdon" will be release on June 16th in Europe and July 8th in North America.
