The Rockstar Ramblings: Bret Michaels, Fired!
It has been a while since I’ve wasted precious time watching Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, but when I heard both Bret Michaels (Poison) and Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) would be contestants, well, I was in. Both had appeared in previous versions of the series, Michaels winning and Snider not. Last time, Michaels went to great lengths to secure his victory, staging a brain hemorrhage just weeks before the finale. That’s good acting Bret! As for Dee, I’m just hoping he doesn’t bring his family into this. More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Casting for Bret Michaels
A couple of weeks ago Bret Michaels (Poison) announced that he is working on a movie about his life. The biopic will take the audience from his roots in Pittsburgh to Hollywood, California. Is this a movie that needs to be made? After two weeks to digest I still have no comment. It does bring up the question of who will play the lead role. Here are a couple suggestions. More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: A Jackyl Screwdriver
This week Bret Michaels (Poison) announced he is working on a movie about his life. For those of you that missed this announcement (God Bless You) you didn’t notice that Michaels has a production company with partner Charlie Sheen. What!?! The movie is the story of his life starting in Pittsburgh and then…you know what, I can’t do this. This is not a good idea. More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Bret Michaels Is Back
Okay, so he never really left, that was just a dream. Poison front man Bret Michaels (Poison) has released a brand new video for his new single “Get Your Rock On”, featuring Phil Collen (Def Leppard) and Sal Coz (My Darkest Days). The video was filmed during Michaels' 2011/2012 solo tour. "Get Your Rock On" is the title track from Bret's upcoming solo album of the same name. The single is available on iTunes along with a cover of Poison’s “Nothing But A Good Time”, featuring former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley and Chickenfoot bassist Michael Anthony. So, is it just me or is Bret Michaels trying to become the “Kevin Bacon Six Degrees” of eighties rockers? More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Dysfunction is my Business
Steven Adler (ex-Guns N’ Roses) is back with his new band named Adler and a new single titled “The One You Hated.” The band insists that the band is about a man/woman relationship and not what we all assume: heroin. Of course, I guess it could be about Axl Rose as well, or maybe the song is about Steven from the mindset of Celebrity Rehab’s Dr. Drew. Either way you look at it, Steven has an impressive memory catalog to pull inspiration from… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: BBQ, Needles, and Vans
Fresh off their “occupy Hard Rock” stint in Vegas, Motley Crue is back in the studio recording a new song. Vegas odds that the words “Hard Rock” are included are 2 to 1. Odds that Nikki Sixx and company will rhyme “cock” with “Hard Rock” is even money… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Talk Dirty To Me
Over the past few weeks the band Kid Rocker has filed lawsuit against the band Poison for allegedly stealing songs originally written by Kid Rocker (band was broke up and presented the songs to C.C. as members of the band Screamin’ Mimis). Video (at the bottom) has surfaced, showing the bands riff for what would later become an alleged Poison hit. My opinion: given this alleged theft occurred over 20 years ago I find the timing suspicious. No word yet as to why wait until now to bring the lawsuit. The songs include “Talk Dirty to Me”, “Fallen Angel”, and “I Won’t Forget You.” What a perfect time to celebrate the video for “Talk Dirty to Me”; a made for MTV spectacle that started it all for the glam conglomerate we would come to know as Poison. Full Disclaimer: I was twelve and a big fan of this video when it came out. Did it shape my life in any way? Still working through this twice a week in therapy. More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: The Trifecta
I found it entertaining that one of the reasons Chickenfoot named their second album “III” was to pass by the sophomore slump album and go right to their third. Three great albums in a row is no small feat. This week I (one opinion) take a look at some bands that have successfully accomplished the feat of: The Trifecta! More...

Sunday Old School: Poison
In 1985, Bret Michaels (vocals), Rikki Rockett (drums), Bobby Dall (bass), and Matt Smith (guitar) set out for the Los Angeles Sunset Strip, determined to make it as the next big hair band. Initially, the band struggled to survive; Matt Smith specifically couldn't handle the poverty and left for back East. During this time Bret Michaels states that his only possession was a toothbrush. Behind The Music: One Toothbrush and Six Bandanas -- The Bret Michaels Story.
With Smith's departure, the band started looking for a new guitarist. In the end their search came down to C.C. DeVille and Slash. Slash was clearly the better guitar player, but C.C. had that over the top glam look the band coveted. This decision would end up being one of the most significant events in eighties heavy metal music. Not only was C.C. the right pick for Poison, but not taking Slash off the market proved to be more important, keeping the door open for him to join Guns N' Roses just months later.
The release of their first album, "Look What The Cat Dragged In," would introduce the world to this glam foursome. The cover would also lead to several debates. First, were these in fact men? After establishing that yes, in fact, these are men, the discussion would turn to which was the prettiest of the group? Most of the time it was Rikki Rockett edging out Bret Michaels in the beauty contest. I believe the amount of eye shadow Rikki used had a direct impact on this outcome. Often lost in judging this book by its cover was how hard the band worked to promote their shows and the dedication to their fans. They were the second wave of “hair bands” and there were hundreds trying to be part of this group. The foursome was relentless in getting friends, fans, and others to attend their shows and promote Poison. More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: 1984
Van Halen announced that they have completed mixing their new album. This news jumped the Vegas line from 50-1 to a 10-1 shot of this album actually happening. It has been 27 years since the last David Lee Roth-Van Halen album. A lot has changed during this time, a few examples: In 1984 The Cosby show premiered along with “Cosby Sweaters”, it was also the year the AIDS virus was discovered. Apparently there is no connection between the two. It was also the year stonewashed jeans were introduced. Vanessa Williams was stripped (pun intended) of her Miss America crown when nude photos were discovered and Michael Jackson’s hair caught fire during the shooting of a Pepsi commercial. Apparently these events also had no connection to the discovery of AIDS, despite many remaining suspicious… More...

Either way Nikki might consider some additional insurance should he continue to jump into crowds at his age… More...
