The Rockstar Ramblings: A Jackyl Screwdriver

This week Bret Michaels (Poison) announced he is working on a movie about his life. For those of you that missed this announcement (God Bless You) you didn’t notice that Michaels has a production company with partner Charlie Sheen. What!?! The movie is the story of his life starting in Pittsburgh and then…you know what, I can’t do this. This is not a good idea.

Platinum “chainsaw wielding” rockers Jackyl are gearing up for the release of their latest studio album on July 31. 'Best In Show', the follow-up to 2010's 'When Moonshine And Dynamite Collide', features 12 tracks including covers of Run DMC and Dr. Hook and will be released through Mighty Loud Entertainment. The album's debut single, "Screwdriver", was officially released on June 26th and is now accompanied by an official music video.

The whole video is shot inside a studio. The assumption here is that chainsaws and guns are not allowed. Okay, maybe guns provided they record hip hop here as well. I like the studio shot, much more intimate than an empty stage, desert, or airline hanger (yeah, I’m looking at you Slaughter).
Jackyl still sounds great, and as usual, adds a lot of unintentional comedy. The emphasis made on the word “SCREW” is pure entertainment. Watching the band lean in each time looks like a drinking game I’d like to be part of. No need to discuss whether an actual giant screwdriver will show up as part of a stage act, the answer is of course it will.

Two other notes, first, that is quite a throne the drummer is sitting on. Secondly, I like the lyric sheet check at 1:40, shows that the band is very thorough. I picture the lyric sheet with the word “SCREW” in bold and then “driver” barely legible. Then again, maybe I’m over thinking this…
