These dudes have to get it through their heads that "reliving the glory-days" doesn't have to mean loading yourself up with dope and booze. Especially when you have a family. Doing the stuff at 47 that you did at 27 usually precedes being found dead in a hotel.

A lot of people make fun of "Hair Metal/Rock" from the 80's but they influenced the music of today along with everything that came before them. Not everyone knows Jani Lane but you should respect him for what he accomplished during his musical career. Really, Is there anything better than the video for "Cherry Pie" or the song for that matter? RIP Jani. You will be missed.

Really a shame. No suprise though.
When I saw him in a documentary saying "I could shoot myself in the head for writing that song" on Cherry Pie, looking miserable as hell, I really felt here's a guy who's just looking for an excuse to 'get outta here'.
I doubt he died of 'natural causes' so it's really a shame he couldn't beat his own personal demons.
RIP.

Branded, how about a little empathy and respect?
Ok, so clearly you didn't like his music, and frankly, I don't care about Warrant nor Great White either.
Nevertheless, he was still a music biz pro who never claimed to be "the best" in anything, and judging by his history, not a bad guy at all, with the exception of few intoxicated lapses.
There are so many a-holes in the music biz, trying to talk everybody down / stab everybody in the back.
Clearly this man wasn't one of them.
Warrant had a pretty good run back in the day with their glam rock / pop hard rock tunes. And it's not Warrant's fault MTV turned them into THAT horrible "Cherry Pie" band.
This guy was no criminal, twisted mind nor a terrorist, just a guy trying to make a living making music.
Now, what's wrong with that?

OMG, Jani Winehouse!
Sorry, poor taste.
Jani, like Amy has been self destructing for years now.
It's such a pity but not surprising.
Another loss.
I loved and still love hair metal.
I always thought Warrant was a clear step above most hair metal.
Yeah, on DRFST it was pretty generic glam but Cherry Pie took the band to a whole other level.
It's too bad grunge happened when it did as the much underappreciated Dog Eat Dog was probably Warrant at their most varied, experimental and best.
Get ready to laugh but when Dimmu tossed ICS I always thought Jani's voice (not him personally) would have been a great replacement.
His vocals and ICS have a similar tone to them.
Beautiful.
An amazing songwriter.
An amazing vocalist that was taken down by his own demons.
My thoughts and best wishes to his family and friends.
RIP

^yeah, great...
Wolf brother, what's wrong with that is that its another LA rockstar addict killing himself off in chronic overindulgence in a fvcking COMFORT INN room about twenty miles from his residence containing his family, his progeny
Its fvcking pathetic and fvcking disgusting and should not be defended or justified....fvck that goddamned PC load of frikken bullsh!t man
Bummer for those that loved him...rip off of a deal

Cheers Hellspawn. Great to see someone around here gets my point.
HR, Ok, fair enough. There's no question - in my mind anyway - that he died by his own hand, be it directly or indirectly. But to me, the tragedy is how he got that way.
I don't think Warrant deserved all the Beavis and Butthead / MTV loathing. Actually to me Warrant is a great example of how media destroys bands. MTV literally made Warrant "the band to hate". And that's disgusting.
And no. I'm no fan. Just saying.

look, he was another rocker who got famous and he hated a song he made!!! ITS THE SONG THAT BROUGHT HIM FAME! But he let it bring him down because he was remembered as the "cherry pie guy" (his words). SO WHAT, AT LEAST THE PEOPLE REMEMBERED HIM!! But he had to cry about it like a kid being called a name at school. How many bands have never even had 1 ounce of success he had?? TOO MANY TO COUNT!! I could have went off and really talked some sh!t, but i said no big loss, and im getting asked to show empathy and respect. Considering he was been going downhill for years now, BY HIS OWN CHOICE, it gets no empathy from me. As for respect, meh, he made it big, congrats to him. In an interview i saw about him, he said "I could kill myself for writing that song", well, maybe it finally came true!!

Branded it seems you view these matters in very one dimensional concepts. His family definitely deserves sympathy, but to say that, you can't belittle the one they love and still think you hold that to be true. Sometimes we can't see or feel what others are going through, but we can atleast try to understand and for that I give kudos to wolf. People like you are how people end up like that in the first place, they are shunned and given no empathy by people with no integrity or courage in dealing with matters outside their own realm or conventions. If you lose someone you care about, I hope no one belittles them the way you do to others.

Rapture: you are correct I do look at certain things "1-dimensional". If people choose to go downhill from their own choices (as did i and lost my 2 daughters) I feel the person who makes the choices has to take full responsibility (as did i). WHY SHOULD I SHOW EMPATHY FOR A ROCK STAR WHO WHINED AND B!TCHED ABOUT A SONG THAT MADE HIM FAMOUS??!! Come on people, he is the one who made his life hell for it, not anyone else!! He got famous, his band toured the world, and in the end he wasnt happy with the way people remembered him. BOO HOO!! He left his family in a situation that they do not deserve to be in! THATS THE TRULLY SAD PART!! I have lost people I cared about: 1 died from drugs, 1 died from drunk driving. AND I LOOK AT THEIR DEATHS AS THEIR OWN FKN FAULT! AND MANY PEOPLE BELITTLED THEM FOR IT AS WELL! Regardless of how I felt about them, it was their choices and their fault they died. And I made sure to point that out to everyone who was broken up about it, (Dont cry too hard, they died from their own stupidity)!! Yes it made people hate me for it, but in the end they agreed. Im just a person who sees peoples choices and looks at it as their own personal fault. Now his family has to take the brunt of this embarrassing fiasco and thats not right at all.
R.I.P. CHERRY PIE GUY!!

well, i never said i was the nicest guy in the world. but im not a sugar coating guy of person. i say it as it is. considering they were my friends as well, and having told them to lay off their "stupidity" before their deaths, makes their deaths even more ironic for them. They chose to ignore me, their families, and everyone trying to get through to them about their lives. BUT HEY, LETS ALL CRY RIVERS FOR PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE TO SLOWLY KILL THEMSELVES AND LIVE IN THEIR OWN WORLDS OF SEVERLY BAD CHOICES!! Look at me however you will, i dont care, im just tired of all the bleeding hearts crying for people who chose to have their lives end in situations that could have been avoided!!!!

I heard the news of Jani's passing this saturday at Rockin' The Rivers here in Montana while watching Rock Sugar waiting to see Ace Frehley and Bachman & Turner and honestly it was saddening news regaurdless of how it happend or why, I saw Warrant live before and thought they rocked it, Jani was very supportive of his band and was there hanging out with his fans. Lots of respect for him. For the ones who loved Jani and/or were close to Jani this is very sad and I send my prayers out to you and his family, for the ones who maybe don't care about this, it's a shame you didn't see the good that came from Jani.
R.I.P brother hope to see you again someday.

He was on a downward spiral. I feel sorry for his kids. There are many 80's guys that I thought would end up in the same place, but they changed and live to talk about it. Unfortunate, but not unexpected. I saw Warrant in my home town about 7 years ago and he was so wasted he didn't know what town he was in. I feel sorry for his family and kids, but if his own family didn't see this coming, they must have not been to close.
