Gaerea Announces New Album, "Loss"; Shares New Single "Hellbound"

After plunging into aquatic darkness with their August single "Submerged," Portugal’s masked Gaerea are today "Hellbound," with their new single. You can check out the music video for the song below.

Gaerea are nothing short of a beautiful enigma rooted in musical extremity and utter passion. In under a decade, the masked collective, born in the Portuguese town of Porto, have navigated countless darkened shades of metal to arrive at their fifth album and Century Media debut, "Loss." "Loss" will be released 20th March 2026, and you can pre-order here.

"Hellbound" is a vision of Gaerea at their most uncompromising - a song that resonates with listeners drawn to dark, emotional, and confrontational music.

The band comment: "’Hellbound’ is an intense and cathartic track, diving deep into themes of guilt, heartbreak, and self-destruction. With searing riffs and visceral vocals, it captures the tension between vulnerability and aggression, love and betrayal. Vivid imagery of fire, thorns, and restless ghosts amplifies its raw emotional weight, making it both haunting and empowering."

"Loss" is the sound of Gaerea continuing to define and redefine itself, incorporating elements of the band’s post-black metal past with the sharpened sonics and haunting melodies. It finds Gaerea emerging from creative chrysalis and bursting into something as engaging as it is unexpected: There’s singing. There are choruses as catchy and passionate as the best rock and metal songs. Yet, through the emotionally charged din, it’s unmistakably Gaerea.

Recent months have seen Gaerea bringing their energised and expressionistic live show to stages all over Europe, headlining to sold out crowds as well as festivals including Czech’s Brutal Assault, Belgium’s Alcatraz and Germany's Summer Breeze. In October and November, Gaerea will join labelmates Orbit Culture on the Swedish upstarts' headline tour of the UK and Europe for their upcoming Century Media debut, "Death Above Life."
