Contrive Enters The Studio
Australia’s CONTRIVE will enter the Toyland Studios, Melbourne this week to begin recording the follow-up to their acclaimed debut from 2005, "The Meaning Unseen" (Mixed by Fredrik Nordstrom - Studio Fredman, Sweden)
The band’s drummer Andrew Haug issued this update:
“Finally, we’re hitting the studio to record what has been dubbed by friends and even us as the Contrive Democracy! Meaning, the album has taken what seems like an eternity to complete. There were several setbacks that can lay blame for this delay over the last few years including our bassist Tim’s motor accident whilst holidaying in earlier this year.
“Am happy to report he’s now all mended and ready to thrash! Ok, what can I say about the album without creating a long drawn out tangent on just how damn great it’s going to be?
“Ha! Well I can tell you it will contain 8 songs and musically? Well, WE DIG IT! You’ll have to make up your own minds when it’s done! More updates soon! Horns - \m/ ”

Giant Squid Signs To Translation Loss Records
Translation Loss Records has announced the signing of San Francisco’s GIANT SQUID. Translation Loss Records will release "The Ichthyologist" this summer in correlation with the band's summer tour alongside label mates GRAYCEON. Engineered, mixed and produced by Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Pearl Jam), "The Ichthyologist" was self-released earlier this year by the band as a work in progress and has now been tweaked with parts being completely re-recorded and remixed due to the band’s constant strive for perfection from their mastermind / lunatic, Aaron John Gregory. The record will also be repackaged with completely redone / original art by legendary, world-renowned cartoon artist, Sam Kieth (The Maxx, Batman, The Sandman).
The band’s lineup is rounded out by Jackie Perez Gratz of Amber Asylum / Grayceon, Bryan Ray Beeson and Christopher Melville Lyman. GIANT SQUID’s last record was released via The End Records and the band has since appeared on a tribute to SYD BARRET late last year alongside Pentagram, Kylesa and Jesu.
Christian McKenna from Translation Loss had this to say about the signing: “After floating around with Drew (TL) and Aaron in the Pacific right by Alcatraz collecting mollusks while avoiding sharks and paparazzi for several hours… the three of us decided it was a no brainer to work together.. GIANT SQUID is completely unique to anything going on in heavy music nowadays and we couldn’t be happier to be along for the ride.”
You can check out some sound clips from “The Ichthyologist” on the band's MySpace page. New remixed and re-mastered songs from the band’s Translation Loss debut will be posted soon.

Judas Priest To Release New Live DVD Next Year
In a recent interview with Christina Fuoco-Karasinski of LiveDaily, Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford revealed that the band will be filming their upcoming tour for a live DVD release next year. The tour will feature the band performing their legendary "British Steel" album in full. You can read some excerpts of the interview below.
On speaking on the bands longevity and contunued success, Halford stated:
"If you love what you do, you're going to put your heart and soul into it and that's what we do in PRIEST. You have to think consistently about your longevity. If you've had a long journey in rock 'n' roll, you put value and importance to those songs, no matter how many hundreds of thousands of times you've played them. Because at that particular moment when you're standing on the stage in, say, the Detroit area and you're playing 'Breaking the Law' for what may feel like the millionth time, it's for the first time in that moment in time." Cradle Of Filth Issues Road Report
Cradle of Filth front man Dani Filth has issued the following road report:
"Dear noble fiends and fiendesses, sons and daughters of Lilith and all-round decent, slightly morbid folk; Dani here writing from our elongated big blue tour-bus on the fourth from last date of the second leg of the Filthfest out here in Europe with Moonspell, Turisas and Dead Shape Figure in support.
"Firstly I must apologise for the substantial delay in posting a blog here on the website, but we have been so busy of late that a sabbatical was in order for a few weeks at least, culminating in a snowboarding holiday in Slovenia and a booze and bowling fuelled family Easter weekend shortly before embarking on our present campaign. Don't ask.
"Those of you who might have seen us in the past few weeks (and in the coming days at least) will be aware that due to aforementioned teaching commitments, both Rosie Smith and Charles Hedger have been temporarily replaced by Ashley Ellyllon (formerly of US band Abigail Williams) and James Mcilroy (formerly of the Nymphetamine Cradle line-up) for this tour and possibly further. I can't really say much more than they are integrating brilliantly and the band is going from strength to strength because of them. More...
Katatonia Releases New Studio Diary
Katatonia has issued the following report from the studio:
"The last cymbal hit of the drum session still ringing in my ear... I have a very good feeling about the whole thing. The playing first and foremost, and the sound is beautiful, the acoustics are ace! Plus we won't have to listen to nothing but drums 10 hours a day anymore. Daniel should be proud. We haven't had the time to do anything else as we're on a pretty tight schedule with this album. We saw some horses the other day and we celebrated David's birthday with cake, beer and various medications and oh, our new collaborator Frank Default (more known as the creative force behind the previous single's remixes and 'Unfurl' production) came down to help edit some of the drums and made sure we didn't fall behind schedule. So the time has come to wrap up and get outta here. Feels good to have a few days at home in Stockholm and celebrate midsummer. Next week we'll move on to rhythm, lead and clean guitars. The foundation of darkness is now rock solid."

Megadeth Reveals New Album Title
American thrash metal legends Megadeth have announced that the name of their forthcoming new studio album will be, "Endgame." The record will be released in September through Roadrunner Records.
Speaking on the album, frontman Dave Mustaine commented: "Thematically, I’ve never been known to be a silent bystander in a world that needs our participation. As more is revealed about our former President’s legacy, a little-known yet staggeringly frightening document which was signed into law, named ‘Endgame,’ has been uncovered. The album Endgame is the most energetic music offering I have penned in over a decade and is far more believable than knowing someone signed ‘Endgame’ -the document- into law. The album is also the perfect ‘ass- kicking’ music to listen to once you are done reading the aforementioned document!
"This new album is my proudest moment since the famous (or infamous) Rust in Peace album. With this album, I am also very excited to be introducing my new lead guitarist Chris Broderick to the world. I have always felt lucky to have had top shredders in that position, but after touring with Chris in support of my last album, I couldn’t wait to get into the studio and see what he could do."

Paradise Lost Reveals New Album Title
British gothic metal legends Paradise Lost has announced that they will name their new studio album, "Faith Divides Us Death Unites Us." It will be released in September through Century Media Records.
Vocalist Nick Holmes states: "The thoughts behind the title Faith Divides Us Death Unites Us are very much self explanatory, there is so much division in the world caused by obstructing religious belief. We are all made of the same flesh and bone, what makes one religions better than the other, and would any true god allow his creation to destroy itself? The vast number of different so called faiths around the globe, just helps to strengthen my complete denial of any god, and force the belief that religion is nothing more than a man made cash induced fabrication to exploit a human beings natural fear of death."
