Lunar Streaming New Album "Tempora Mutantur"

Sacramento, USA’s progressive metal pioneers Lunar are set to release their most ambitious project to date, "Tempora Mutantur" on January 31, 2025. A meticulously crafted concept album that explores the intricate passages of time, personal transformation, and emotional landscapes, the record represents a milestone in the band's continuing musical evolution. They comment on the release:

"We’re very excited to present our new album 'Tempora Mutantur' to the world! This album is more thematic rather than conceptual like the last album. This album deals with something everyone can relate to and no one can escape: the passing of time. As we get older, our perspective changes, we gain some things, and lose others… sometimes the things and ones we love. And we struggle and fight along the way."

Lunar hopes that fans will be able to resonate with the album and find some solace in it as it is highly relatable to the theme of time passing. Continued and driven by drummer and primary songwriter Alex Bosson (Helion Prime, Planeswalker) after the passing of co-band founder Ryan Erwin in 2018, the album is the result of a deeply personal and introspective creative process.

The album's eight tracks weave a complex narrative that explores themes of seasonal change as metaphors for personal growth, mental health, and the passage of time. From the opening track to the three-part title suite that closes the album, Lunar demonstrates its unique ability to transform personal struggles into universal musical statements that resonate with listeners on multiple levels. The album is recommended for fans of Haken, Tool, and Porcupine Tree.

W.A.S.P. To Perform First Album In Full On UK Tour

Los Angeles metal pioneers W.A.S.P. return to the UK later this year for a very special celebratory tour.

"Album ONE Alive!" marks the 40th anniversary of the release of W.A.S.P.’s first album. To celebrate this classic metal album, W.A.S.P. will, for the first time in 40 years, play the entire album in full, from start to finish plus classics from the band's catalogue.

Formed in 1982, W.A.S.P. is set to bring this universally acclaimed “classic” album to life. Lead vocalist Blackie Lawless says; "This is the tour that showcases the album that started the long, long undying bond between the band and to all the fans in your countries where all our international success first began 40 years ago. It was an angry record made by an angry band. It was a record that not only reflected the attitude of the band members who made it, but also a record that reflected its time."

He continues; "This tour showcases for the first time, that landmark first album, played in its entirety, from top to bottom, most likely never to be repeated ever again. So be there and see these Winged Assassins, and witness this once in a lifetime event."

The UK tour dates are as follows:

July 20th - UEA, Norwich
July 25th - O2 Academy, Glasgow
July 27th - Rock City, Nottingham
September 26th - Newcastle O2 City Hall (Armored Saint to support)
September 27th - O2 Victoria Warehouse, Manchester (Armored Saint to support)
September 28th - Eventim Apollo Hammersmith, London (Armored Saint to support)

Messa Reveals New Album Details

Italian doom metal alchemists Messa will release their new full-length, "The Spin," on April 11th through their new label home of Metal Blade Records.

Sailing past their tenth anniversary in 2024, Messa takes another step towards legendary status with their majestic fourth album The Spin, which takes it‘s listeners on a breathtaking journey across the wide-open skies of their creative imagination and over a compelling landscape of moods, twists, and styles. Based in the band's eclectic, self-defined “scarlet doom” sound, The Spin rises, falls, broods, bites, comforts, and destroys, all the while resounding with both instinctive magic and obsessive, concerted hard work. After lighting up the underground with a triptych of increasingly distinctive and wondrous records – 2016's "Belfry," 2018's "Feast For Water," and 2022's "Close" – Messa is audibly equipped for the proverbial big leagues.

Palpably assembled with love and care, Messa's heightened craftsmanship rings loud from the album's elegant architecture. Written over six weeks of intensive daily sessions, in a 500-year-old villa close to the quartet's beautiful hometown of Bassano Del Grappa (VI) in Northern Italy, Messa applied scrupulously high standards to the process, even while challenging themselves to change the way they work. "When we recorded 'Close' back in 2021, we wanted to be all in the same room together," explains the band. "This time we decided to do the exact opposite. We recorded the album in three different locations and timings. This record has seen a lot of rearrangement of the same musical material in order to make a coherent work from start to finish. We also aimed at making the songs work with the most minimal structure while trying not to repeat ourselves too much. We applied a simple rule: if you hear the same thing twice it‘s enough. Three times? It gets boring." More...

Ne Obliviscaris Parts Ways With Vocalist Xen

Australian progressive metal band Ne Obliviscaris has announced that they have parted company with vocalist Xen. James Dorton, who has served as the band's live vocalist since 2023, will officially take his place among the band's ranks. A message from Xen reads as follows:

"This may come as a surprise to some and yet expected for others, but after much deliberation I’ve decided to leave NeO, the band I started and have helped build for the last two decades. I’d always said that I’d be the last man standing in the band, and it was always my intention to return completely to the fold, but time and experience has changed me… and so here I am bowing out. The very simple reason is that considering where I am mentally and in life, extensive touring is no longer for me, and in turn meaning the band and I part ways.

"NeO has been one of my biggest priorities in life since 2003, I don’t regret that. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved – but the dedication of time, preparation and commitment to heavy touring, as every musician knows, comes with a lot of sacrifice. Since 2019 (pre-pandemic), I’ve only played a handful of live shows and over the last few years I’ve gradually become more estranged from the touring process. So that coupled with some difficult years on a personal level, gave me time away from the hectic schedule to breathe and ultimately find clarity around what I value, what I want and how to proceed forward. My drive has always been first and foremost for the creative process of art, music, writing, and everything behind the scenes rather than being in the limelight every night, and so I plan to focus more on those things. Leaving NeO by no means implies that I’m giving up music, I have 3 other developing bands (Spiine, Omega Infinity, Antiqva) to focus on so I’ll still be around releasing albums. Creativity keeps me breathing, the stage lights do not.
Moving forward, NeO will continue, as they have been in my absence, with the assistance and dedication of the talented James Dorton on vocals. He’s held the fort for me for numerous tours over the last couple of years and has done an incredible job, so I hand the hilt over to him – please make him feel welcome.

"I’d like to thank the fine lads in NeO, they’ve been gracious and understanding, and have given me the space to make one of the biggest decisions of my life. I don’t really have enough words to express my gratitude to them for the years of collaboration, experiences, memories, and achievements (and for putting up with my incessant nagging for more blast beats) – Thank you for everything – we’ve done more than we thought possible, and have done what most Australian metal bands strive for – I don’t see the train stopping anytime soon so I’m looking forward to watching the band continue to grow.

"Thank you immensely to the NeO patrons, I’m forever humbled for the support you’ve shown the band over the years, without you we definitely wouldn’t have come as far as we have. And finally thank you to all the fans around the world, I appreciate you all putting up with my black and white life filter.

"This change is the only way forward for me, thank you all for understanding." More...

German death metal stalwarts Deserted Fear has announced that they will release their sixth studio album "Veins Of Fire" on April 25th. In anticipation of the release, the group has shared a new music video for the song, "The Truth," which can be seen below.

"Although we are children of the East, we grew up in a united Germany, but now we are witnessing a growing division in our society – not brought about by walls of concrete but by a rift of distrust and hatred that is widening every day", guitarist Fabian Hildebrandt begins a thread, which Simon Mengs picks up: "Yet there are people out there, who fight for justice, peace, and humanitarian values, who never give up to inform and discuss at home or among friends, on social media platforms, and at demonstrations", the drummer adds, before vocalist Mahne gets the final word: "Our song 'The Truth' is an appeal not to get distracted by disinformation and populist simplification but to ask critical questions that are based on facts – because the truth will never die!"

2. The Truth
3. Blind

Svart Vinter Signs With Non Serviam Records

Italian atmospheric black metal band Svart Vinter have just inked a deal with Dutch label Non Serviam Records.

Founded in Rome in 2021 by members of the doom/death metal band Veil Of Conspiracy, they draw inspiration from the classic Norwegian black metal scene of the 90’s.

Svart Vinter's sound is characterized by haunting melodies, cold, sharp riffs, and a powerful, relentless rhythm section. Their lyrics delve into themes of nature, isolation, and existential struggle, exploring both the beauty and the darkness of the natural world and the human condition. Their music is more than just a reflection of black metal’s harsh sound - it's a journey through darkness, atmosphere and emotion, a tribute to the genre’s past while looking toward its future.

The band comments: "We are thrilled to officially announce our signing with Non Serviam Records. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in our artistic journey, and we are excited to bring you new music and projects under their incredible support. Stay tuned for more info." More...

Epica Announces New Album "Aspiral"

Symphonic metal titans Epica are excited to announce that their 9th studio album "Aspiral" will be out on April 11th, via Nuclear Blast Records. The album title is derived from the eponymous bronze sculpture made by Polish sculptor and painter Stanislaw Szukalski back in 1965 and stands for renewal and inspiration – keywords that define Epica in 2025. In Szukalski’s work every detail is a piece of art in its own right, and there’s always more to the story than you initially think. The band saw this as the perfect analogy for the creation of this 9th album: each song stands on its own with a distinctive vibe and meaning, while together they enforce each other into a monumental effort.

The album, featuring stunning cover artwork by Hedi Xandt (Rammstein, Ghost, Parkway Drive), is now available for pre-order in the below mentioned formats. The special editions even include the BluRay and audio recordings of the full monumental "Symphonic Synergy" performance in Amsterdam that the band recorded in 2024 with an orchestra and choir.

If you want to get another appetizer of the new tracks, you can check out the band’s new music video for the up-tempo anthem "Cross The Divide," directed by Kunststoff below.

Recorded once again at Sandlane Studios and expertly mixed and produced by Joost van den Broek, "Aspiral" boasts 11 new tracks:

1. Cross the Divide
2. Arcana
3. Darkness Dies in Light - A New Age Dawns Part VII -
4. Obsidian Heart
5. Fight to Survive - The Overview Effect -
6. Metanoia - A New Age Dawns Part VIII -
7. T.I.M.E.
8. Apparition
9. Eye of the Storm

Mantar Unveils "Rex Perverso" Video

"Rex Perverso" is the scathing new single from Mantar's forthcoming new full-length, "Post Apocalyptic Depression," set for release on February 14th through Metal Blade Records.

Where 2022‘s "Pain Is Forever And This Is The End" saw the German duo bring a sonic richness to their madly heavy blackened death-punk grooves, assisting the record to its position at #2 on Germany's Official Top 10 album chart, this year‘s "Post Apocalyptic Depression" smashes the palette and punches a hole in the canvas. "We wanted to do everything different from the last album," affirms guitarist/vocalist Hanno Klänhardt. "The last album was very produced. A huge sounding record with clean production. Display of power. That was what we wanted and felt at that time. Now we are trying to destroy what we've built up with the last album. There is a certain beauty in disappointing people's expectations."

The ethos is clear from the first two words Hanno uses to describe the recording process: "Quick and dirty. We didn't even bring our own gear to the studio, and just used the equipment that we would find there. There was zero planning involved in the making of this album. We wanted to keep it as primitive as possible. I feel very connected with my punk roots on this album. Very punk rock production and next to our first album definitely the most raw sounding one."

That snarling attitude spits out of the speakers on beautifully titled smash-and-grab volleys like "Church Of Suck," "Rex Perverso," and "Axe Death Scenario," written in far closer collaboration than is the norm for a two-man band living on different continents (Hanno in America, Erinc in Germany). This, and the super-focused speed of the recording, seemed to act as an emollient corrective after the highly stressful process of making "Pain Is Forever..." two years ago. "It was the worst time and experience we have had as a band and as friends so far," recalls Hanno. "The band almost broke up during the making of the last album. So, this album was some sort of spiritual healing. As a band and as friends. Without any serious plans, we wrote twenty songs in just a couple of days. Some good, some awesome. Making this record saved our asses, the band, and maybe even more."

Of today‘s single, "Rex Perverso," Hanno further elaborates, "The title roughly translates to ’king of the perverts,‘a title apparently worn with pride worldwide. This song is all about groove which has always been a main priority and one of the strongest weapons of the band. It‘s catchy and on point. The song triggers simple and primitive instincts. It's over before you realize you‘ve felt it." More...

Poison The Well Shares First New Song In 15 Years

Poison The Well released the definitive album "The Opposite of December... A Season of Separation" in December 1999 and it went on to become a benchmark of the genre that has inspired a generation of bands. The album was chosen as one of the "15 '90s Metalcore Albums That Still Resonate Today" by Brooklyn Vegan; as one of the "21 Best U.S. Metalcore Albums of All Time" by Kerrang!; as one of the "25 Best Metalcore Albums of All Time" by Loudwire; and as one of the "Top 60 Best Hard Rock Albums of All Time" by Revolver. Its influence is indisputable.

But the band is not content to rest on the laurels of its past achievements, as mighty as those achievements are.

Instead, PTW are looking forward in 2025 by releasing their first new song in 15 years with "Trembling Level."

"Trembling Level" finds Poison The Well on top form. Harmonics pierce the armor of a thick riff, and a guttural groove tosses and turns beneath Jeff Moreira's hard-hitting screams. The barrage subsides on an arresting bridge anchored by a dramatic drumroll. A final melodic warning, "Don't you let the silhouettes lead you to the ocean floor," gives way to one last pit-splitting breakdown.

"For me, I was trying to figure how to effectively incorporate elements from our whole discography into one song," guitarist Ryan Primack reveals. "We ended up with this, and it has a little bit of everything we've done throughout the course of our existence."

"Lyrically, it's about tackling a fear," says Moreira. "I tend to write based on personal experience. You're approaching something you're scared to do, going through it, and realizing the hardest parts are actually the ones you should be looking towards because those will lead you to success."
