Callenish Circle Commence Recording

Callenish Circle are working on their new studio album. Here's an update from the band: “After months of writing, composing, rehearsing and sweating in their rehearsal room (a.k.a. The Loodz) it's finally time to record the new full length album "My Passion // Your Pain". Eight brand new tunes and a cover song (Pestilence) will be recorded at Stage One Studio in Germany, together once again with producer Andy Classen (who produced last year’s Flesh-Power-Dominion). The recordings will last for about five weeks, so there should hopefully be MP3 previews soon.”

Russia's Forest Stream to Release Debut

Russian symphonic doom merchants Forest Stream are about to unleash their debut album "Tears Of Mortal Solitude". Musically it harks back to the golden age of the early 90's wave of English doom bands, but also the unmistakable chill of the black metal explosion in Norway.

Kataklysm Update

Kataklysm recently returned from a successful European tour. The X-Mass festivals were a big step up for the band and they wish to thank all the bands who participated and especially the fans for their incredible support and warm welcome, and of course Metallysee Agency for putting it together.

In other news, the band parted ways with long time drummer Max Duhamel immediately after the European tour. Max initially announced to the band that he would be retiring but accepted to do the upcoming North American tour in February/March with Hate Eternal, Dying Fetus and Into Eternity. But, to the band's surprise, Max decided to pull out of that engagement, leaving the band stranded to find a drummer. They have since found a temporary drummer and are preparing him for the tour. Lunaris Cancel Inferno Fest Appearance

Lunaris have stated that the work on their forthcoming album is now to take priority over the band's possible live work in the immediate future. This means the planned UK tour and the appearance at the Inferno Festival will no longer take place.

A few big-named producers are in the frame for the band's next recording session, likely to be around May/June. There's no title yet, but keyboard player Ray is very satisfied with the rehearsals, proclaiming the new material to be far more aggressive than before, without losing that technical edge.

Samael's Vorph in Accident, Gets Screwed

Samael vocalist/guitarist Vorph was recently a victim of an accident and had to be operated upon to repair his broken fibula - 11 screws now hold it together. This will not effect his participation in the band’s upcoming tour which runs from January 28th - March 4th.

In related news, the Era One project featuring Vorph and Xy still doesn’t have a release date. To give fans a taste the album will be played in it’s entirety every night during the change over before Samael hit the stage.

Kreator's Petrozza Gives Live CD/DVD Update

Kreator guitarist/vocalist Mille Petrozza has posted the following update via the band's official web site:

"Dear friends, fans and supporters,

"We currently spend a lot of time in the studio with [producer] Andy Sneap, listening to and mixing the material we've recorded on the last tour. Most of the songs came out great, well maybe some mistakes here and there, but hey — it's a live record, isn't it? This week I'll enter the editing room to start working on some Korean footage. The Sao Paolo material looks amazing, and the 5.1 mix will give you the impression of being right there watching the show. Other than that, we'll start editing some ancient home video footage for a detailed history part that will contain interviews, live sequences and private archive material from 1985 to 2003.

"We often get mails from you lately, asking about the release date of the CD/DVD. I think I cannot answer that question right now, but let me tell you this much: It will take as long until both works can live up to the quality standards that we think are necessary for a release. There is no 'good enoughs' — it has to be perfect! So be patient, and I can promise you that you will definitely not be disappointed! I think May or June would be realistic for a release right now..... More...

Falconer Part with Vocalist, Name Replacement

Sweden's Falconer have officially parted with vocalist Mathias Blad, according to their official website.

"The reason was clashes of schedules, Falconer wanted to give the "live activity" a serious try and take all chances they could get," explains the group. "The schedule Mathias' musicals have didn´t make that easy to go through with. So the choice was to continue with him and thereby maybe not being able to tour after the next album. The second choice was to get a new singer losing a trademark of the band but being able to take the chances when they come. Cease the day, as they say."

Falconer replaced Blad with Kristoffer Göbel of the band Destiny. Göbel will reportedly give Falconer "a chance to evolve" and won't follow directly in Blad's footsteps. Also coming into the fold are former session musicians Anders Johansson (guitar) and Peder Johansson (Bass). Both members had performed with Falconer for about a year before joining. More...

Daylight Dies Loses Session Guitarist

Daylight Dies session guitarist Robert Daugherty has officially given word that he'll no longer perform with the group.

"After over three amazing years as session rhythm guitarist for the Relapse Records metal band Daylight Dies, I have decided to part ways with the group," explains Daugherty. "I felt a need to concentrate all my efforts on Dreamscapes of the Perverse and Perverse Productions. The decision was made and announced a few months ago, allowing Daylight Dies the time to search for and train a suitable replacement."

"My thanks go out to Guthrie Iddings, Barre Gambling, Jesse Haff, and Egan O'Rourke for understanding my decision and their support to Dreamscapes of the Perverse. I personally feel I am a better musician as a result of performing live with them. As for the future, Dreamscapes of the Perverse will be extremely busy arranging live performances, writing new material, and searching for a suitable record label to release our debut full-length album."

It's unknown if Daylight Dies will fill Daugherty's position on a permanent basis or hire on another session musician for live performances. In any event, we'll have more on Daylight Dies and Dreamscapes of the Perverse as it becomes available.

Turbonegro to See Rerelease

Turbonegro's back-catalogue albums Ass Cobra (1996) (hailed by many as "the punk rock album of the last Decade) and Apocalypse Dudes ("the rock 'n roll album of the Decade" according to The Beastie Boys' homegrown magazine Grand Royal) (1998) are being re-released by Epitaph / Burning Heart Records on February 25, 2003. The classic albums are the perfect warm-up to the upcoming new album Scandinavian Leather that will be released in May, 2003.

The story of Turbonegro is the story of a band that did everything as wrong as possible, a band with no career strategy, no promotion, no media plan and no sales points whatsoever. Instead they chose a most "non-media" band name, an impossible homosexual image, intricate symbolism (or, then again, perhaps not: singer Hank Von Helvetes trademark ritual of firing a bottle rocket out of his buttocks at the end of each show may actually not have much meaning) and an in-your-face attitude and sound that created more than a fair share of obstacles on their rocky road to ruin. But at the same time it is the story of the band that sparked the Scandinavian Rock Explosion More...
