At The Gates Releases New Music Video

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates are releasing their newest studio album "The Nightmare Of Being" worldwide via Century Media Records today.

Check out the title-track "The Nightmare Of Being" in a video directed by Patric Ullaeus / www.rEvolver.se (Arch Enemy, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, etc.) below.

At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant commented as follows: "One of the key tracks on the album, this one is really dark and haunting, with some classic old school At The Gates harmonies thrown in. I guess some of you have already read up on the concept of the album, this one is the introduction to said concept, introducing the main idea that mankind's consciousness is the ghost of our nightmares, the plague that drives us to our own extinction. I am really happy that Patric Ullaeus got the chance to, once again, interpret the dark themes of our music with his video. He really gave this a special feeling, which I think goes really well with the theme of the abyss of the human soul. Today you can also, finally, listen to the whole album! Dive in! It is, as said before, the most rich, cinematic, textured, layered, progressive and dynamic album we have ever written. Thanks for listening!" More...

At The Gates Premiere New Track

Swedish death metal veterans At The Gates premiere their third single “The Fall Into Time” taken from their impending studio full-length “The Nightmare Of Being“. Century Media will release it on July 2nd.

ocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant commented on the single “The Fall Into Time” and its video as follows:

"Hello everybody! As you might have already guessed, this album is our most ambitious effort yet, including a lot of different orchestrations and new takes on arrangements, etc.

"This track, 'The Fall into Time' is one of the centerpieces of the album. It is big, demanding and epic. We have always found it intriguing to compose songs like these, think 'Neverwhere,' 'Primal Breath,' 'The Night Eternal' and 'Daggers of Black Haze.' It is heavy, mean and dark, as well as almost cinematic in its thematic approach. I have always said that the At The Gates listener wants to be challenged and that you hopefully all are as curious as we are when it comes to exploring new musical territory. This song is one of those moments… Enjoy!

"For the video for this more adventurous track we chose to work again with our dear friend and co-conspirator Costin Chioreanu, as we thought that it required a more arty and avantgarde approach. I was, as always, very intrigued to see what he would come up with, as he has a deep understanding of what At The Gates is about. He did not disappoint, and this video is a perfect complement to a song like this. Costin went all the way with this one. Truly inspiring!" More...

At The Gates Premiere New Single "The Paradox"

A second advance track from At The Gates‘ seventh studio full-length “The Nightmare Of Being” has premiered online, streaming via YouTube for you below. The new album itself is due out on July 2nd via Century Media.

Vocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant commented about “The Paradox” and its video as follows:

"Humanity is the biggest paradox. We as humans always want justification for the big things: death, the meaning of life, etc. Our knowledge of being mortals drives us away from being human, hence the paradox. We invent defense mechanisms to protect us from the thought of death, religion, different –isms, etc.

This first time our producer Jens Bogren heard this song, he said “This is a monster!”. It touches on some core parts of the At The Gates sound, but builds further, on top of that, some classic NWOBHM/Mercyful Fate vibes thrown in for good measure. It is a death metal song, but has its progressive moments. Enjoy!

This was a very fun video to record, as we tried to create most of the “special effects” in an analog way, and not just to be added in the editing. Hence we were drenched in tons of crushed coal and soil, which took over a week and a lot of showers to get out of our hair, haha. We really wanted an oppressive, apocalyptic emotion for this video. And Patric Ullaeus, being the master that he is, went all the way to make that happen!" More...

At The Gates Posts New Music Video Online

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers, At The Gates, are now launching the first single off their upcoming album, "The Nightmare Of Being," out July 2 via Century Media Records, to enhance today’s album pre-order start. Watch the video for "Spectre Of Extinction" below, and pre-order the new album here.

Tomas Lindberg Redant commented about "Spectre Of Extinction," a track which features a guest lead-guitar appearance by King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque, and its video clip, which was directed by Patric Ullaeus / www.rEvolver.se (Arch Enemy, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, etc.), as follows:

"It is always very hard to choose which song to release to the public first, especially with this album having so many layers and textures. We did feel, however, that this, the opening track of the record, represented the overall feel of the album. It has the musical depths that you would expect from an At The Gates track, and still carries that intensity and urgency that we have always tried to get across with our music.

"For the video, it was wonderful to be able to continue the work with the mighty Patric Ullaeus, as he understands our vision with the music and is willing to go all the way to portray the song’s inner dimensions. I think he did that excellently with this one and I’m very proud of the result. The lyrics deal with humanity’s will and how that clashes with our consciousness, and our knowledge of our mortality. Enjoy!" More...

At The Gates To Release New Album In July

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates have recently completed the recordings and preparations for their upcoming new studio album and can now reveal that it will be entitled "The Nightmare Of Being" and that it will be released on July 2nd, 2021!

While main parts for "The Nightmare Of Being" were recorded in several different Swedish studios - Drums at Studio Gröndal with Jens Bogren, guitars and bass with Andy La Rocque at Sonic Train Studio and vocals at Welfare Sounds with Per Stålberg -, the album was mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Kreator, etc.) by Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with At The Gates on their "At War With Reality" comeback album in 2014. The album’s visual concept was developed by artist Eva Nahon.

At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant checked in with the following comment about the album’s concept: "The overall theme deals with the topic of pessimism, and I have been diving deep down in pessimistic philosophers. Trying to understand this way of looking at the world. It is not a negative album, more a gateway into new ideas for me personally, trying out different perspectives. You could call the album an introduction to pessimism as a concept, I guess. It is a very dark album, but not negative…." More...

So excited for everyone to hear what madness we’ve created so far, and for a double assault from Kevin and Tompa that is bound to make you want to punch stuff!" More...
