The Richmond, VA 5-piece, Lamb of God, came together in the current form in the fall of 1999. The band has been around in various forms and under various names, most notably Burn The Priest, since '94, however, and the brothers, Chris and Willie, have been playing music together since '88.

Lamb of God signed with Epic records in 2004 and completed their major label debut in just 5 months before embarking on their first Ozzfest tour and subsequent US and UK tours.

Lamb of God play a caustic style of extreme metal that can be compared to few others. It can best be described as a raw mixture of death and doom metal elements, but that description does not do their sound justice. Go get their CD or catch a show and hear it for yourself.

Rolling Stone Previews Lamb of God's "Wrath"

Rolling Stone has previewed Lamb of God's upcoming full-length album, "Wrath," going in depth and talking to the band about some of the songs in particular. Here's an excerpt:

“We were learning more about what we would do differently next time than about what we could do with that record,” [Chris] Adler said. “The goal for me this time was to make a straight-up, heavy metal, thrash record that doesn’t rely on any studio magic.”

Regarding the album’s closing track and the longest in the band’s career, “Reclamation,” Rolling Stone calls it "progressive and downright apocalyptic." The song, which Blythe cites as his favorite on the album, was originally slated to be an instrumental.

“It’s about how we’re destroying ourselves and the world around us, and that sooner or later, the tipping point will be reached,” Adler said. “The message in that song is just so great that it was really important to have that on the record.”

Wrath is due out on February 24th on Epic Records.

That said, let's get down to the details and talk about those bands that made 2008 such a good year for heavy metal by announcing the Metalunderground.com staff picks for 2008. Lamb Of God Guitarist Discusses New Album

Lamb Of God guitarist Mark Morton recently discussed the bands forthcoming new studio album, "Wrath" and how the band hope to achieve a more raw sound with the album.

"We usually try to do something fresh every time," Morton tells MTV.com's The Metal File. "This one, I think, is deliberately a little more raw and more aggressive than Sacrament was. Sacrament was a really, really dynamic record on every level, and the songs were all over the place — it was also heavily produced. This one's really raw and real-sounding, from every angle, and we're celebrating imperfections on this record. We're choosing what takes stay on the record based more on their character and personality than how completely mechanically precise they are. It's more about vibe and attitude in the takes than it is about, 'Wow, that was perfect.' It's the perfect ones that get thrown away, because they're just too sterile."

Lamb Of God will be using longtime friend Josh Wilbur to produce the new album instead of Machine. Morton explained the choice of producer change by stating: "Josh is someone who has been in the camp for quite some time," Morton explained. "He worked heavily on Sacrament, engineering the drums and my guitars; he also mixed the live audio for [2008's] Walk With Me in Hell DVD. He's not new to us — he's new to the producer's seat, and he's just done a great job. It was part of our strategy. Certainly, nothing was broke with Machine, who is a phenomenal producer and still a good friend — but this time around, from a purely artistic standpoint, to serve our purpose of trying to really do something a little different, I think it made the most sense to get another angle on the production aspect of it. Josh was the perfect fit, because he already knew us and was familiar with how we play and how we write music and how we record it."

Lamb Of God Sets Release Date For New Album

LAMB OF GOD will release their fifth studio album, entitled "Wrath," on February 24th, 2009. The record will be released in North America by Epic and will be the first release with their new label Roadrunner outside of North America. WRATH is produced by Josh Wilbur and was recorded in studios in New York, Virginia, and New Hampshire.

LAMB OF GOD finished the touring cycle on the Grammy nominated album "Sacrament" at the end of 2007. The two-year trek was documented in the now certified Gold DVD "Walk with Me in Hell" and culminated with the band headlining arenas across the US last December.

The band has taken the entirety of 2008 off the road to focus on the writing process for "Wrath."

"This album is going to surprise a lot of people," comments drummer Chris Adler. "Typically bands that get to where we are in our career begin to slack off, smell the roses and regurgitate. We chose a different path. No one wants to hear another band member hyping a new record. WRATH needs no hype. We have topped ourselves and on February 24th you will feel it."

As always, LAMB OF GOD will embark on an extensive tour that will cover the globe. As previously announced, the band will be supporting Metallica on the December leg of their tour. The first leg of the WRATH world tour will start in Finland on February 6th and will encompass dates in the UK, Australia, and Japan.

Lamb Of God Banned In L.A. Forum Once Again

Lamb Of God has been replaced my Machine Head on the Los Angeles dates of the Metallica tour. Here's the announcement from Metallica:

"As you may have heard, the owners of the Los Angeles Forum have a little issue with our friends from Lamb of God, so unfortunately they will not be joining us for the two shows at the Forum on December 17 and 18. That's the bad news... the good news is that our bros in Machine Head are rushing back to the States from Europe to step in on those two nights. And of course no show would be complete without The Sword kicking things off, so they'll be there too."

Lamb of God was previously banned from performing at the church-owned (then-named) Great Western Forum in April of 2005 on the Subliminal Verses tour with Slipknot because church leaders were offended by the group's previous name, Burn the Priest.

In a statement on the band's Web site, drummer Chris Adler called the church's decision back in 2005 "a bit ridiculous."

"If they had taken the time to look into what we do and who we are as a band, I don't think they would have made the same decision," he told The Associated Press in 2005.

"They have made it clear that they do not want us because of our name, our show and our crowd," Adler said. "The word from the powers that be is that Lamb of God is not the wholesome family fun that the good people of Los Angeles deserve."
