Last Known Status: Active

Background

The Richmond, VA 5-piece, Lamb of God, came together in the current form in the fall of 1999. The band has been around in various forms and under various names, most notably Burn The Priest, since '94, however, and the brothers, Chris and Willie, have been playing music together since '88.

Lamb of God signed with Epic records in 2004 and completed their major label debut in just 5 months before embarking on their first Ozzfest tour and subsequent US and UK tours.

Lamb of God play a caustic style of extreme metal that can be compared to few others. It can best be described as a raw mixture of death and doom metal elements, but that description does not do their sound justice. Go get their CD or catch a show and hear it for yourself.

Randy Blythe Guests On The Jasta Show

In today’s episode of The Jasta Show, Jamey Jasta sits down with Randy Blythe from Lamb of God. They discuss the Gwar B-Q, Dave Brockie, Jello Biafra, staying sober, prison, Randy's love of literature, Randy's pcoming book, the wall of Death at Ozzfest, and more.

Randy comments on sobriety and getting sober on tour: "I was writing about drinking in my book, I address it quite a bit. It stopped working the last night I got drunk. It worked when I got to a place where everything that bothered me was shutdown. I drink because I didn’t like many things about myself and many things about the world. I didn’t want to cope with that."

Randy on what he learned from the events in the Czech Republic, and if there was a life lesson: “No there was no fucking lesson just tragedy. A dead fucking kid. Though I caught a bullet. It was bound to happen to someone. The barricade at that show was non-existent. The security is non-existent. If I were to do it again I would have stopped the show.”

"Dear U.S fans. We regret to inform that Satyricon will not perform at Knotfest in San Bernardino, CA and Horror Fest in Austin, TX in October 2014. The reasons for not being able to perform at these two festivals are both pragmatic ones and entirely different from each other.

Pit Stories: Crashing Into The Wall Of Death

It's Tuesday again, which means it's time for more Pit Stories!

This week we head into one of the most infamous, bone crunching, bruise-inducing pit activities: the dreaded wall of death.

Atlanta prog metal band Halcyon Way shared this story with us about a wall of death during a Lamb of God set:

One of my all time favorite bands is Lamb of God, and if you know Lamb of God at all then you know that they are known for doing a wall of death at the end of their show. So I was attending their show in Atlanta at the Tabernacle, and the time came for them to play "Black Label" which everyone knows is when the wall happens. So people started lining up, my best friend and I decided that we were gonna do it! So Randy Blythe started counting, when he hit 4, both sides of the room flew towards each other.

In the confusion I lost sight of my best friend and just began fending for my life it seemed! I saw some people on the ground, but saw that they were being helped up and didn't think much of it. It wasn't until I saw videos on Youtube later on that I realized that the side of the wall we were on had completely collapsed under the pressure from the other side and that we were mere feet away from being right in the middle of it, with no idea that it was even happening! It was definitely a blast though and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Halcyon Way's forthcoming album "Conquer" is due to drop on August 19th in North America via Nightmare Records and August 23rd in Europe via Massacre Records.

To get a preview of the album, you can stream the track "Home" at this location or watch the "Web of Lies" music video here. More...

Randy Blythe Reacts To Brockie's Cause of Death

Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe recently posted a photo of himself with Gwar frontman Dave Brockie in reaction to the news that his death was the result of a heroin overdose, along with a plea to friends and fans about drug abuse:

Here's me with Dave Brockie & Brad Roberts of GWAR in 2006. Brad & I are still here, but Dave is gone- accidental heroin overdose, as many of you heard today. Not that it really matters, because dead is dead, but I don't think Brockie was a stone cold junkie when he died- he couldn't have done all that he did if he was strung out. He partied hard at periods, but I think he was more of a drug dabbler. But there's a lesson here- dabbling with drugs kills people dead every day, just like being fully addicted does.

I am so fucking sick of my friends dying from alcohol & drugs. Really, really, tired of it- some of them die slow in the throes of addiction, & some of them die after just doing something stupid one night after a party. Some if them fuck around and fuck around and fuck around..."I'll get sober one day..." For most of them, that day comes for sure- when we put them in a casket. It's better to be alive when you get sober.

In this photo I was still drinking- I am a FULL BLOWN ALCOHOLIC. When I drink, I do crazy, really ill stuff. But I am a sober man today. I LIVE FREE. I might die surfing in the ocean tomorrow, but I will go out doing what I love, not choking on my own vomit. Besides that, I can just try & help others, so I'm writing this to YOU- YES, YOU- you, the one who can't stop drinking & getting fired & pissing off your wife, you the one who steals pills from you friend's medicine cabinet, you the one who is in a dark hole & wants to die & the only thing that fixes it for a little while is a drink or a drug- WAKE UP. GET HELP. STOP. PLEASE, I'M FUCKING BEGGING YOU. YOU CAN DO IT. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET SOME HELP. If I can do it, ANYONE CAN, because I was a TOTAL WRECK for YEARS. Just get some help, goddamn it. And if you haven't started, don't. JUST DONT. There is NOTHING cool about being an alcoholic, a drug addict, or dead. Trust me. For the love of God, just don't start. Please.

Randy Blythe: "I Need A Rest"

Lamb of God's Randy Blythe has checked in with the following update about taking a break from the band:

"And so another album cycle comes to an end. This has been a very eventful, at times VERY STRESSFUL, album cycle, & it's been about three years since we started on this one in our practice space. I need a break.

"Tomorrow is a 19 hour flight back to the USA, & then another one home to RVA, & except for two festival shows in 2014, I will not be thinking about Lamb of God, touring, playing heavy metal, writing new lamb of god material - NONE OF THAT STUFF AT ALL - for a good long while.

"Time to do other things for a bit, & let my brain regroup, & be a somewhat normal human being. This has been a pretty wild ride though, & to end it in AFRICA of all places still amazes the crap outta me. So thanks Johannesburg for an awesome end to the Resolution tour cycle, & to all you other bands, hear this: the game has been stepped up, & the ante has risen. You are not a REAL G until you come to South Africa & your fans throw one of THESE to you on stage - a warthog skull.

"Takes the cake for the strangest thing throw at me on stage ever, & I've had some weird shit thrown at me - I named him Jeff. Jeff, the South African warthog. Top that, y'all. Don't front like your ballin' if you ain't rockin' that wart hog shizzy. I figured I'd finish up the cycle with a nice self-portrait. Me & Jeff are outty. Peace, & one love." More...

Lamb Of God Announces Film Release

Lamb Of God is pleased to announce that the band has entered in to a worldwide distribution deal with Specticast (Led Zeppelin Celebration Day, Paul McCartney Rock Show) for the Don Argott-directed feature film “As The Palaces Burn.”

Filming for the feature began in 2012 and concluded in March of 2013. “As The Palaces Burn,” not to be confused with the making-of documentary packaged with the recent re-release of the 2003 Lamb of God album of the same name, was conceived to be a documentary focused on the power of music and its impact on cultures around the world, along with its ability to bring together people of all nationalities regardless of religious or political differences.

After a worldwide casting call, filming took place in Colombia, Venezuela, Israel, India, and the United States. As filming reached its conclusion, the documentary was forced to take a major turn when the band’s lead singer, Randy Blythe, was arrested in the Czech Republic and charged with the murder of a fan in June 2012.

Granted unique access to Blythe’s continuing saga, Argott’s filming covered Blythe’s 38 day imprisonment in Prague, his release and the band’s return to live performances, and finally Blythe’s trial for murder in Prague in February 2013.

“As The Palaces Burn” will debut worldwide on February 27th. Following the film, a 30 minute Q&A with the entire band and director Don Argott will be shown. The Q&A was conducted by VH1 Classics Eddie Trunk and filmed at the final show of the band’s North American tour in support of their most recent release, Resolution. More...

Lamb Of God Announces 10th Anniversary Release

Lamb of God is pleased to announce that the band has completed work on a special 10th Anniversary Edition of "As The Palaces Burn." The following press release was also issued:

"After some serious detective work tracking down the original album master tapes, the band went in with producer Josh Wilbur (who also produced Wrath and Resolution) and gave 'Palaces' a full-on, ass kicking remix and remaster. Front-to-back, top to bottom. The remixed version of Palaces is now how they had originally intended it to be.

"To go along with the album re-release, Lamb of God also shot a brand new DVD documentary recounting the recording process and the stories behind the music which features new interviews with original producer Devin Townsend, the band members and current producer, Josh Wilbur."

Drummer Chris Adler comments, "we are lucky to have the opportunity, a decade after our first attempt, to bring what I consider to be our master work up to speed sonically. Ever since the original release we've been distraught about the sonic qualities of 'As the Palaces Burn'. The band had captured lightening in a bottle and the budget limitation of a sophomore album turned our lightening into a firefly in a jar. The songs are undeniable and we've always been very proud of how this album launched our career. It feels appropriate to revisit now that we can and give this very special album the chance to reach our original hopes and it's true potential."

Beginning today, you can pre-order the 10th Anniversary Edition of "Palaces" (available on both CD and VINYL) along with some previously out of print merch designs. More...

Lamb Of God Banned By Malaysian Government

Lamb of God's concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia scheduled for September 28th has been cancelled by the country's government, who refused to issue a permit for the show even though the concert had been on sale and had sold over 1,500 tickets. Shows scheduled in New Zealand, Australia, and Thailand will still be performed by the group.

Lamb of God’s guitarist Mark Morton has issued the following statement regarding the decision by the Malaysian government:

“It is very evident (and a bit frustrating) that the groups, parties and powers that have taken the most offense to our music and lyrics, have themselves only made a passing glance at the content and meanings of those songs. We would invite anyone offended by our music to engage in a discussion regarding the true motivations behind our work, especially before publicly slandering us based on assumptions and shallow misinterpretation.

"We sincerely apologize to our amazing fans in Malaysia for the cancellation. Many thanks to all who have spoken out in support of us through this.”
