The Richmond, VA 5-piece, Lamb of God, came together in the current form in the fall of 1999. The band has been around in various forms and under various names, most notably Burn The Priest, since '94, however, and the brothers, Chris and Willie, have been playing music together since '88.

Lamb of God signed with Epic records in 2004 and completed their major label debut in just 5 months before embarking on their first Ozzfest tour and subsequent US and UK tours.

Lamb of God play a caustic style of extreme metal that can be compared to few others. It can best be described as a raw mixture of death and doom metal elements, but that description does not do their sound justice. Go get their CD or catch a show and hear it for yourself.

Randy Blythe Talks Alcoholism And Depression

While everyone knows that Lamb Of God's Randy Blythe served a terrifying overseas jail sentence, many people don't know about his battles with alcoholism and depression.

In the YouRock interview below, Blythe dives into his struggles, noting how suffering from depression doesn't always come from detrimental circumstances: "I was in a great place but I felt like I was dying. That's the component of alcoholism and depression that's really baffling to some people."

He also talks about how music helped him when he was younger, saying, "I was listening to the Sex Pistols, and Black Flag, and the Bad Brains. There's this aggressive music, this stuff that's speaking about real things...and I'm like, 'I'm not crazy, I'm not alone in the world.'"

Randy Blythe Comments On Tour Cancellation

As it turns out, Lamb Of God dropping the band's current European tour while tour-mates Children of Bodom and Sylosis continue on anyway has had some significant online backlash.

Some bands and fans have been angered that the group caved in to fear caused by recent terrorist attacks, while others have been more forgiving, citing the band's personal safety and Lamb Of God's poor track record when it comes to travelling Europe.

The situation has gotten to a point where Randy Blythe has released a very lengthy (think Wintersun rant level) article explaining why he originally said on-stage that they wouldn't quit the tour and then subsequently quit the tour.

If you've got a few spare years, the full text is available below. Children Of Bodom's Alexi Laiho also recently released a video statement commenting on the band continuing the tour, which can be seen here.

"At the request of management, I have agreed to write a post concerning our recently cancelled tour of Europe. I wouldn’t have bothered to do this on my own, since a rather self-explanatory general statement has already been made explaining our reasons for leaving and that seems more than sufficient to me- the basic gist of the post was that something specific occurred that made some of us in the band feel that it was unwise to continue on with the tour, potentially putting ourselves, our crew, and large numbers of defenseless people in harm’s way. Simple enough.

"And I won’t elaborate on the details of that occurrence here, since I have no wish to add to the atmosphere of speculation and fear that currently surrounds terrorist activities in Europe- there are way too many ill-informed running mouths across the globe making an already tense, highly complex, and extremely fluid situation on that continent even worse. I feel pretty ridiculous even writing this (who knew deciding to cancel a tour after venues you have played start getting blown up would require any sort of explanation to anyone?), but since I have been asked nicely to do so by the people I employ to manage my band, I will. Lamb Of God Drops Off Tour Due To Terror Concerns

Update: Randy Blythe has now posted a very lengthy statement online explaining the band's reasoning behind dropping off the tour. You can read that article over here.

After the ISIS-led terrorist attacks in Paris last week, Lamb Of God has decided to drop off all remaining European tour dates with Children Of Bodom and Sylosis. The band comments:

"Due to concerns brought to our attention by the venue security team yesterday in Tilburg - and continued general concerns across Europe - we have decided against putting our fans, our crew and ourselves in this position night after night and will be canceling the remainder of our performances in Europe. This is a decision we are making on behalf of the fans, our crew, and our band, as well as the well-being of everyone's family, friends and loved ones at home. Stay safe, and we will see you very soon."

The tour will continue without Lamb Of God, however, with Children Of Bodom commenting: "Lamb of God has chosen to leave the European tour due to security concerns in Europe. Our team has been working very hard to make all of the remaining shows happen. WE WANT TO, AND HAVE DECIDED TO, CONTINUE ON THE ROAD AND PLAY THE REST OF THE TOUR. Sylosis also will be joining us on their scheduled appearances.

"Here is what we know so far. Unfortunately the promoter has decided to move forward and cancel tonight's show in Oberhausen, Germany, and the additional shows in Germany. At this time, the remaining schedule will move forward as this (we ARE looking to add more shows FYI). We WILL keep you updated as we have changes, and we are doing our best to keep you informed as quickly as possible on everything." More...

Lamb Of God Premieres New Lyric Video "Erase This"

Lamb Of God premieres a new lyric video for the track "Erase This", taken from the band’s latest album "VII: Sturm Und Drang", out in stores via Epic Records and Nuclear Blast.

Check out now "Erase This" below. Says guitarist Mark Morton of the song:

"Lyrically, 'Erase This' deals with negative people and how they can drag you down without you even necessarily realising it. It's about people you may even be close to, but who are stuck in their own self-pity and woe-is-me, kind of victim status. That kind of energy can spread like a virus. Most of us as humans have been on both the giving and receiving end of that kind of attitude, but the older I get, the more I try to focus on not allowing that type of vibe to enter my mindset."

Randy Blythe Assaulted In Dublin

Maybe Randy Blythe should stop leaving the country, as he's again run afoul of the locals, this time in Ireland. Blythe updated his Instagram account with this post about being attacked in Dublin:

"Sometimes doing what you love comes at a price: here's the Samuel Beckett bridge in Dublin, Ireland. Last night around midnight I walked one block away from my hotel to take some long exposures - right after I shot this very frame, I looked up & saw 5 or 6 teenage dudes (16 to 18 year olds?) in hoodies & track pants spreading out around me. 'Well, crap, I guess it's on' I thought.

"I started stepping quickly into the street away from the little cul-de-sac where I was (it was a bad spot to be trapped), trying to keep my eye on all of them at the same time. One kid drew up to my left getting close & BLAM - someone else hit me in the head from behind with something (I think they had a stick or whatever) - I saw stars for a second, then I heard car horns & a cabbie was driving at these kids & I was standing in the street trying to shake it off, because that little fucker had rang my bell pretty good.

"Like all cowards & weaklings all over the world, they came at me in numbers and struck from behind. I never even had a chance to smash one of the little shits because the cabbie (thank you, whoever you are) scattered them while I was regaining my wits. So now my glasses are gone (but I have contacts), my new Surf City hat w/the Black Flag bars is gone (but I brought another hat), my new e-cig is gone (but I have others), & I have a split open elbow & a bit of a headache (but it could have been much, much worse - I could have caught a knife). A Second Look At Heavy Metal In Video Games

Two weeks back we asked a simple question: why isn't there more heavy metal in the video game world?

Our Facebook page blew up with gamers offering up their favorite titles with metallic soundtracks, and we took a closer look at several worth your time. In that post still available here if you didn't read it, we looked at the king of heavy metal video games – Brutal Legend – as well as Saint's Row The Third, Killing Floor 2, Painkiller, and Guilty Gear X2 Reload.

After that post went online, Zynthetic – responsible for much of the music in Killing Floor and Killing Floor 2 – wrote up an article attempting to answer the question of why more metal doesn't show up in video games since they seem like a perfect and obvious match.

For his take on the lack of metal in gaming, including the difficulties in licensing existing music and the lack of metallic knowledge among composers, read the full article right here.

Since we love gaming and we love metal, it seemed like a good idea to keep checking in every so often with new entries that combine the two, and this week we'll cover four more solid games filled to the brim with extreme metal. Don't see your favorite game listed? Don't worry, we'll cover more in the future, but be sure to still give us your picks in the comments below.

Five years ago a reboot of the '88 arcade game Splatterhouse hit consoles, and it was very much notable for the inclusion of an all-metal soundtrack featuring the likes of Lamb of God, Mastodon, Municipal Waste, Cavalera Conspiracy, and Goatwhore.

As the name would suggest, it's filled with buckets of blood and guts, and the action-oriented beat 'em up style is somewhat similar to Dante's Inferno/God Of war/etc. The frantic combat will see your character Rick frequently losing limbs and more, but that's not a problem because they grow back – and hey, you can pick up the severed appendages of your foes to continue beating them down!

This one's filled to the brim with all sorts of horror goodies (and ridiculousness) like time travel, cosmic horror deities, and plenty of nods to Lovecraft with names like “Dr. West” and places called “Arkham.” Someone helpfully put all the songs from the soundtrack together into one playlist at YouTube here, and you can check out a game trailer below:

Lamb Of God Posts "Overlord" Video

Lamb Of God just revealed an official music video for the brand new track “Overlord.” As with the previously released “512” track, “Overlord” is directed by Jorge Torres-Torres.

“Overlord” is the second official music video to be released in support of the band’s upcoming seventh full-length album, "VII: Sturm Und Drang," hitting stores and digital retailers on July 24th, 2015 via Epic Records.

“Overlord” is what some may consider the most unique and versatile track on the record – a new play on the revered Lamb Of God sound. The track “Overlord” uniquely features clean vocals and lyrics penned by vocalist Randy Blythe, and the video itself features his own personal concept and treatment.

“For years I've wished that I could have a movie camera directly linked to my brain so that some of the ideas I see in my mind's eye could be translated into film for others to watch,” Blythe begins. “Although that is obviously an impossibility (and probably a good thing- I find many things amusing that might not be so funny to everyone else), the video for 'Overlord' is the next best thing for me. I came up with the idea and wrote the treatment for this video myself- to see Jorge (the director) take my concept, add his own touches, and use his technical know-how to translate my 'mental script' into a suitably dark visual narrative is just an awesome, awesome experience for me.
