Legion Of The Damned Reveals Album Release

Originally announced as a December release, Legion of the Damned has now revealed "Ravenous Plague" is due out January 7th, 2014 via Napalm Records. The record label also issued the following press release:

"Back in 2004, when Legion of the Damned rose from the ashes of Occult in the Dutch city of Venlo, where the music scene yearned for pure and brutal thrash metal. In 2005, Maurice Swinkels (vocals), Erik Fleuren (drums), Twan Fleuren (bass) and Richard Ebisch (guitar) teamed up with producer Andy Classen and entered his Stage-One-Studio (Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany) in order to record Malevolent Rapture a true classic of Euro-Thrash!

"Eight busy and productive years later, the quartet comes full circle with the release of their latest album Ravenous Plague that harkens back to their phenomenal debut. Twan Van Geel took over the guitar duties from Richard Ebisch and excels on Ravenous Plague with his skills on the guitar. Hein Willekens has also joined Legion of the Damned on stage as their second guitarist. All these changes are examples of the newly lit fire and newfound strength of the band.

"2014 might prove to be yet another pivotal year for Legion of the Damned, as Ravenous Plague makes it more than clear that the evolution of the band is far from over. The return to Andy Classen as producer duties was a great move, as no one else knows the band better than Classen. The album's introduction was composed by Jo Blankenburg, who wrote music for blockbuster films including such as Harry Potter, X-Men, and 300. Wes Benscoter, who has worked with numerous bands including Slayer, created the artwork for Ravenous Plague. There is a storm brewing in the camp of Legion of the Damned, and it won't be silenced anytime soon." More...

Legion Of The Damned Discusses Upcoming Album

Legion of the Damned, which recently signed to Napalm Records, will record next full-length album "Ravenous Plague" with producer Andy Classen at the Stage One Studio.

Andy Classen previously produced Legion of the Damned's albums "Malevolent Rapture," "Sons of the Jackal," "Feel the Blade," and "Cult of the Dead." Only the last recorded album "Descent into Chaos" was produced by Peter Tägtgren in Sweden at the Abyss studio. Vocalist Maurice Swinkels explains:

"Peter was a super experience to us and it was a hell of a great time, for me it was a personal thing, I was curious to hear the result with a different producer other than Andy Classen, but the beating heart of Legion of the damned lies in Bühne, the home town of Stage One Studio in Germany."

The band has been composing new songs for more than a year now and will enter the studio in March, 2013. "Many of the successful albums of Legion of the damned were produced by Andy Classen and therefore we build such a strong team with him," drummer Erik Fleuren continues. "He can truly push us to our limits, and that's what we need." More...

The band commented on the signing: "We are absolutely thrilled to announce Legion of the Damned has signed a deal with Napalm Records, a very important and exciting moment for Legion of the Damned. We always got along very well, and therefore we want to thank the crew of Massacre Records enormously for their big support! It’s time for Legion of the Damned to move on and seek other challenges, we are very happy with the excitement Napalm Records has shown in our band and we can't wait to release our new album under their wings!"

Legion Of The Damned Re-Releasing Debut Album

Legion of the Damned is going to re-release the band's debut album "Malevolent Rapture" in memory of former bassist and friend Twan Fleuren, who unfortunately decided to take his own life last year. Legion of the Damned commented:

"May 20th, 2011 was a very sad day for us. Ex bass player and friend Twan Fleuren committed suicide. Twan was recruited by at that time second guitar player Leon Pennings, who served in the band Occult from 1992 until 1999. Twan Fleuren took place in the band Occult in late 1998. When Leon was thrown out of the band in 1999 right before we would leave for the Morbid Angel tour, Twan stayed in the band!

"A lot of struggle in the last Occult years we finally decided to take action: we changed the name Occult into Legion of the Damned, changed from record label Hammerheart to Boomer Entertainment & Massacre Records, and from then on, the band's career took a rocket flight.

"Twan Fleuren contributed on the most popular Legion of the Damned songs such as 'Werewolf Corpse,' 'Death's Head March,' 'Bleed For Me,' 'Malevolent Rapture' and of course our own hymn 'Legion Of The Damned.' More...

Former Legion Of The Damned Bassist Passes Away

Dutch death/thrash metal outfit Legion Of The Damned has announced that their former bass player, Twan Fleuren has commited suicide. The details of his death have not yet been revealed. Twan Fleuren was at the beginning of the succes of Legion Of The Damned and recorded with the band the album "Elegy For The Weak" with Andy Classen in 2003, that was later re-released under the name "Feel The Blade" in 2007, as well as the recording of "Malevolent Rapture" in 2004, which was released in 2006.

Singer Maurice Swinkels stated: "Another very sad day in the Legion camp, Twan has been a great friend and we lost contact for several years because he was in some difficult times, only a few weeks back we were all back in contact again and it felt like these great old times were about to return, even Erik and me joined him on a terrace for a beer or two a few weeks ago, he even wanted to join us to With Full Force in July, where I was really looking forward to, he even showed alot of intrest in our new guitar player and the departure of Richard Ebisch. The bad news that came in today struck as a bomb, not for me only personally but also for the band Legion Of The Damned. Of course we wish his family and kids all the strength they need in this process. We will miss you brother and of course all of the upcoming Legion Of The Damned shows will be dedicated in his name!"

Drummer Erik announced following: "Yet another sad day in the history of Legion Of The Damned. We knew that Twan had to face some extreme difficult times, but we certainly did not expect this, he was about to join us at some upcoming festivals and we were really looking forward to that. Maurice and I are happy that we still had a nice chat and drink with him at a terrace not so long ago after a really long time of not seeing each other, rest in peace my friend and my sincere condolences to his family"

Andy Siry / Boomer Entertainment (management) states: "When Maurice informed me this afternoon that Twan commited suicide I was totally shocked and speechless. I remember when I met Twan at the first Legion Of The Damned tour in 2006 (with Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm). Twan was a very kind and nice man and a good bass player. Our 'beer talks' were always funny. Twan made the decision to leave the band during this tour to take care of his wife and his two kids… and now this terrible news… and the big open question is of course, why??? What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we cannot understand why Twan left this earth so soon, but little by little, we will begin to remember not just that Twan died, but that he lived. And that his life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. Twan will always stay a member of the Legion Of The Damned! RIP – brother , see you on the other side, and my condolances to Cristel, Nina & Joep and his family."
