Gus G. Recaps Summer, to Play 2nd Show With Ozzy

Firewind guitarist Gus G. checked in with the following recap of all of the band's activities during the past months and more:

"Summer of 2009 is gone and we've just returned from the last festival show of the season! I must say that we had some really great shows this summer and Ilha do Ermal in Portugal was one of the best for us!

"It felt nice to return to Portugal (first time was in 2007) and see so many of our friends and fans! We even did an encore, usually that doesn't happen in a festival situation, but this time it worked out since people kept screaming for more and wouldn't let us leave the stage!

"Looking back now most of the shows were highlights. We're still amazed by the reception we got on our first trip to Turkey @ Unirock festival, the 'dream come true' gig by supporting the Scorpions @ Greece's Creta Festival (and me jamming w/ the Scorps later that night!), the completely packed 15.000 capacity tent @ Graspop and our glorious return to Finland @ the fantastic Tuska festival!

"Then of course there were the German shows. I'm glad we did both Rock Hard & Summer Breeze festival - my personal favourite being Rock Hard (such a great vibe in Gelsenkirchen!)

"In between the festival madness, something truly unbelievable happened to me: I played a show with the Godfather of heavy metal - Ozzy Osbourne! I spent the best time of my life in L.A, rehearsing with Ozzy and his band and on August 22nd we played the Blizzcon video game convention in Anaheim.,CA as most of you probably know by now. It would be stupid to go on about how cool and great this was - I don't think these feelings & this experience can be described with just a few words!

"We are aware that this has caused lots of our fans wondering about the future of FIREWIND. No need to worry about anything boys & girls, FIREWIND is stronger than ever and we're entering the studio @ the end of September to record our 6th studio album. We still don't have a title for it, but we do have 12 brand new Metal tunes that we're VERY proud of!!!

"In time we'll keep you updated with the recording process, reveal some song titles and hopefully show you some videos from the studio.

"Stay tuned & Stay Metal!

"Gus."

Gus G. will perform for the secnd time with Ozzy Osbourne on Saturday, September 12th at the Sunset Strip Music Festival in Los Angeles, California.

The Rockstar Ramblings: Rock Tavern Edition

This week announced the official open of Feelgood’s Rock Bar & Grill, the new venture from Vince Neil (Motley Crue), in Las Vegas. Neil is by no means the first rock star to open a bar. For many years Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, as well as others have made the connection of booze to rock fans. However, what makes this particular opening special is the expectations set for decadence in a true rock and roll atmosphere. With a sound system fit for a stadium you will find live rock (including a house band), privacy in the V-rooms, and hosting after-parties for the bands Whitesnake and Judas Priest (already booked) Neil is introducing the future of rock bars. The question is who will be the next to follow this trend? I’ve broken down some of the potential favorites: More...

Zakk Wylde Furious With Ozzy Osbourne

Black Label Society mainman Zakk Wylde was recently interviewed by Eugene, Oregon's, KFLY Radio, during which he came clean about how certain his place in Ozzy Osbourne's band. He proceeded to rant for three minutes, stating:

"I’ve gotta be honest with you. The boss hasn’t even given me a phone call, so I mean… I’m just like… I don’t know what’s going on over there. Are we doing this thing or are we not doing it? When I keep getting asked these questions, I go, ‘Call the boss. When he tells you, then he can call me back.’ I mean, it’s just like… I love you, man. Whatever you want, that’s cool.

"But if we’re doing this, let’s do it, and let’s whoop some ass. But if you don’t wanna do it, then just give me a heads-up. Call me, man. Tell me what the hell’s going on. I don’t know what the hell’s going on over there. We’re working on the new record, we’ll be back in September, we’ll work on finishing the record. And then we’re supposed to do the tour.

"I mean, it’s like, dude, you don’t wanna play with me anymore? Fine. Play with whoever the hell you wanna play with. I couldn’t give a rat’s ass. Like I’m gonna get all jealous or whatever."

Zakk Wylde Unware Of Lineup Change

As was previously reported, Ozzy Osbourne announced in an interview with Classic Rock magazine that he had parted with long time guitarist Zakk Wylde, saying that “Well, I’m getting a new guitar player as we speak, and everyone has been saying to me for a long time, ‘Get Johnny 5!’ And I tried him at one time and I didn’t really give him a chance. We’ll see, I don’t know. I haven’t fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk’s got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. I just felt like I wanted a change, y’know?"

Zakk Wylde has updated his Twitter page with the following statement which indicates he was unaware that he was being replaced:

"I'm doing Blizzcon with him in August and supposed to finish up the cd in September....this is news to me. I haven't heard anything about this. Until I talk to the Boss I don't know. I love Ozzy."

I’ve got a new album, I’m working on it as we speak. I’ve got a studio at my house and I’ve got a guy called Kevin Churko, the guy that did the last album – he’s great to work with.

"And it’s great to have your own studio. On one hand it’s great and on the other it’s not, cos when you’re at the studio you can go, ‘Sorry darling, I can’t get home for dinner, I’m stuck at the studio…’ But she can fucking come down stairs now! But I’m just enjoying my life now…" More...
