Jinjer Joins The Mystic Festival Lineup

The world is changing, and metal is changing with it, which is why the Mystic Festival stages will be graced not only by the vanguard that decades ago created this music, but also by bands currently at work shaping its future. Jinjer, Polaris, Landmvrks and Defects are coming to Gdansk this June.

Jinjer
The biggest Ukrainian metal band, which balances aggression and technique at the highest level. Holding the mic is the one and only, idiosyncratic and antithetical Tatiana Shmayluk – sometimes a beast, sometimes a bewitching siren. Before the festival, in February, the band will drop their fifth album, entitled Duél. Whomever Jinjer is planning to duel with, we wouldn’t like to be in the shoes of their opponent.

Polaris
For over a decade now, this Australian band has been dreaming up their own original vision of contemporary metal. Their third album, released in September 2023, Fatalism, catapulted Polaris into the very top of progressive metalcore. Unfortunately, it is a bitter triumph as it was achieved in the wake of the sudden death of the band’s guitarist, Ryan Siew. The four-piece hailing from Sydney, nevertheless, continues to play, and the tour promoting this record has become a deeply emotional farewell to a friend.

Landmvrks
Riffs like surgical cuts – sharp, precise, and deep – blaze the trail for the evocative vocals of Florent, from clean singing to emo cries. A decade on the stage and three albums were enough for the Marseille band to be hailed as one of the most interesting representatives of French metalcore.

Defects
Groove metal and metalcore, earworm choruses – these are the weapons deftly wielded by the British band Defects. Their debut album, Modern Error, was released in May 2024, so the band’s career is only really revving up, but with that kind of music and that kind of energy it won’t take long for them to fulfill their own prophecy and as the title of their song says, be “Second to None.”

Mystic Festival will take place in Gdansk, Poland at the Gdansk Shipyard on June 4th through 7th, 2025.

Tickets are available now on the Mystic Festival homepage here More...

Polaris Debuts "Overflow" Music Video

Ahead of the release of their impending new album "Fatalism," due out on September 1 via Resist Records in Australia and SharpTone Records for the rest of the world, Sydney melodic metalcore outfit Polaris have today unveiled a captivating new single, "Overflow."

Boasting translucent melodics, smoldering guitars, and emphatic vocals, "Overflow" is an immersive and layered outing that detonates heavier moments alongside more serene terrain, expanding the band's creative palette with alternative rock contours and deeply raw thematics.

"This is one of the much more personal and vulnerable tracks on the record lyrically, whereas the other two singles took a wider, more outward perspective," shares drummer and lyricist Daniel Furnari. "I feel like the meaning of the song is fairly self explanatory, and I think a lot of people will naturally interpret it through the lens of their own experiences, but essentially for me it’s about the struggle of fighting off a panic attack and the impact of that struggle on others." Polaris Guitarist Passes Away Aged 26

Australian metalcore band Polaris has announced that their guitarist Ryan Siew has tragically died at the age of 26. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"It is with shattered hearts & the deepest sorrow that we tell you our dear brother and bandmate Ryan Siew passed away on the morning of Monday June 19. He was 26 years old, and for 10 incredible years he was our best friend and artistic soulmate. Those years will never be enough. He was kindhearted and clever, he was funny and brave and creative, and he was talented beyond all measure. He loved art, and beauty in all its forms. He loved great food in great company. He loved Harry Potter and psych-thrillers and crime documentaries. He loved music, more diversely than you could ever imagine, and spoke its language in ways that only the rarest among us do. And most of all, he loved & adored his family & friends. He was also much admired and beloved by so many. Ryan, we will love and miss you for the rest of our days, and we will never fill the hole that you leave in all of our lives.

"Our hearts are with his family first and foremost, but also with all those whose lives he touched. We ask that you please respect the wishes of Ryan’s family for privacy at this time, and likewise that you give us, our team and family the space to grieve & attempt to heal from this immeasurable loss. We know that you will be grieving with us and that we, and our community, will hold each other through this.

"In loving memory of Ryan Siew
18.3.1997 - 19.6.2023

"May you be at peace

"Daniel, Jake, Jamie & Rick"

Siew joined Polaris in 2013, shortly after the band formed, and performed with the band ever since. Polaris are scheduled to release their third album, "Fatalism" on September 1st this year.

Download Festival Announces First Sixty Bands

The organisers of Britain's Download festival have announced the first sixty bands to play at the event's twentieth anniversary next year. Of note, Metallica will be performing two headlining sets, while the other headliners will be Slipknot and Bring Me The Horizon. A statement from Metallica reads as follows:

"Open up the summer calendar as we’re super excited to announce that we’ll be celebrating the Download Festival’s 20th anniversary with not one, but two headline nights on June 8 and 10, 2023! It's been over a decade since we hit the stage in Donington Park, so we’ll be making up for lost time with two unique and completely different setlists with no repeat songs whatsoever that weekend.

"This year’s festival will take place over four days and we’re lucky enough to start the party on night one, June 8th. Hitting the stage as headliners the other two nights are Slipknot and Bring Me The Horizon. The long weekend will be jam-packed including Evanescence, Parkway Drive, Disturbed, Pendulum, Architects, Ghost, The Distillers, Placebo, Alexisonfire, Asking Alexandria, Motionless In White, I Prevail, The Blackout (reunion), Fever 333, Stray From The Path, Lorna Shore, Nova Twins and Municipal Waste, with many more still to be announced.

Polaris Reveals New Album Details

Sydney metalcore outfit Polaris are proud to announce the details of their highly anticipated second studio album, "The Death Of Me," due to be released on 21st February 2020 via SharpTone Records. It's been two years since Polaris released their ARIA-nominated, Australian top 10 debut The Mortal Coil which introduced the group to legions of fans around the country and, thanks to an extensive international touring schedule, the world.

When it came time to make their new album, The Death Of Me, the Sydney outfit knew they had a tall order on their hands.

“We wanted to walk a line between maintaining what’s defined our band and brought people to our music in the first place, while trying to write for ourselves and keep ourselves interested,” begins drummer Daniel Furnari, one of the main songwriters in the unit. “Being our second full-length, we knew it was important for us to surprise the listener as well - nobody wants to hear the same record twice. We wanted to give them things they wouldn’t expect, take them to new places, but also for it to be definitively a Polaris record, building on what we’ve been working towards.”

Polaris returned to the house in the small Australian South Coast town of Mollymook where they made The Mortal Coil, converting it into a temporary studio. The familiar surrounds acted as something of a refuge after the high-pressure claustrophobia of touring. Accompanying the band was their front of house sound engineer, Lance Prenc, and long-time friend Scott Simpson (of Melbourne band Alpha Wolf), both of whom co-produced the album with the band. They tried a few new approaches to song writing, with tracks such as the anthemic first single, Masochist starting life as a vocal melody, around which the riffs were built, as opposed to the other way around.
