Powerwolf Issues Album Update

Powerwolf is currently working on the follow-up to the 2013 release "Preachers of the Night" (reviewed here), titled "Blessed & Possessed." Now the band has checked in with the following update:

"We have just finished the mix of our upcoming album 'Blessed & Possessed' at Studio Fredman, with Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd at the helm of the desk. These days Jens Bogren laid final touches to the songs, mastering the album at Fascination Street.

"We have just had the pleasure to listen to the mastered album for the very first time. We're more than proud and satisfied with the result, and yet can hardly believe to have finished this intense production. Both Fredrik Nordström and Jens Bogren did killer jobs giving these songs exactly the sound they need."

Verlies Releasing Album Through Hypnotic Dirge

Verlies’s debut album “Le Domaine des Hommes” will be released on May 21st, 2015 in a digipack CD and digitally through Hypnotic Dirge Records and Throats Productions. Hypnotic Dirge comments:

"Based out of the French city Lille, Verlies is an avant-garde black metal band playing dark, strange, and experimental music. Without restrictions of conventional song structure, Verlies is all about creating dark and claustrophobic music with a strong emphasis on atmosphere. Ranging from piercing and uncompromising black metal, to experimental jazz melodies, to post-rock sensibilities, and everything in between, the music is raw, bold, and truly exceptional.

"Songs change pace and vibe frequently through their lengthy playing time, using many different techniques and methods to tell their story. Vocally, founding member N. mixes ferocious and tortured screams with enchanting and morose clean vocals that truly draw you in providing some uplifting moments alongside the raw hatred and despondency.

"Verlies’ debut album 'Le Domaine des Hommes' is full of surprises but remains raw and never leaves the black metal vibe too far behind, instead using it as a base for their other sounds to draw from. Many bands these days try their hand at an unconventional approach to the Black Metal sound but only a few can pull it off genuinely and Verlies is one of those bands. Too often, the term 'black metal art' is thrown out haphazardly, but we humbly believe that it fits in this case!

"Headed by founding member N., the project of Verlies started as a one-man project, but now has a full live lineup to spread their unconventional hatred throughout Northern France. The debut album 'Le Domaine des Hommes' was previously released digitally through Bandcamp, but now the album will get an official release in a noble and carefully designed 4 panel digipack, including a 12 page booklet and a bonus sticker while supplies last. The first cooperative release by Hypnotic Dirge Records and Throats Productions!" More...

Today Is The Day Posts New Video

Today Is The Day has unchained a manic, animated video for the track "Heathen," culled from the group's debut Southern Lord LP, "Animal Mother." Check it out below, courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting.

"Animal Mother" brings forth some of the most incomprehensibly violent anthems from Today Is The Day in recent times, a personal exorcism of inner demons swirling through the depths of cult leader, Steve Austin's, mind deployed through a broad range of tactics.

Issues Austin of the "Heathen" video's inception: "I was on tour last fall and stayed at my long time friend, Neil Barrett's house. While I was there he showed some of the video work he had been doing and my mind was blown. Neil and Marco Morales are super creative dudes and Neil has been into TITD since the band began. Together, they make some really psychedelic mind expanding films; it's really cool to finally get to work on something together."

The video's creators themselves offer: "We've been in the dungeon at the Austin Enterprise compound for several weeks with no food, water or sleep creating this visual nightmare. We're just happy it's over. Steve Austin is a genius and a madman. We hope you enjoy the fruits of our suffering." More...

Possession Releasing New Mini-Album

Striking while the iron is hottest, Belgium's Possession returns with new mini-album, "1585-1646," set for international release on June 6th, with Iron Bonehead Productions handling the vinyl pressing and Invictus Productions handling the CD pressing.

Here, the quartet goes from strength to strength, melding the best aspects of the "His Best Deceit" demo and the following "Anneliese" EP and then stirring the cauldron more potently 'n' poisonously.

Through these four tracks, Possession tells the story of a witch who lived in France between 1585 and 1646: on "Obscurity," an intro sets the crucial medieval atmosphere; with "Visitation," the future witch receives the visit of the Devil, who offers her a pact she accepts; on "Ceremony" comes the Sabbath; with "Guilty," the Inquisitors hunt the witch, catch her, and torture her to make her confess; and at last, on "Ablaze," the Inquisitors burn the witch.

Goatlord Re-Issuing Early Demo

In 1985, Goatlord emerged from beneath the desolate sands of the Mojave desert and released a first demo two years later, following the replacement of the band's original bassist.

Though the group would ultimately become best known for first full-length album, "Reflections of the Solstice," it was on this first recording, known succinctly as "Demo '87," that Goatlord established the prototype for its primeval sound. The tracks on "Demo '87" were clearly a necessary stepping stone in the descent towards the black/doom/death rituals that would later become further explored on subsequent recordings.

With the greatest of personal pleasure and pride, Nuclear War Now! announces its reissue of the complete, original "Demo '87" in conjunction with a first-time release of a 1988 rehearsal recording that exemplifies Goatlord's majestic devolution. The "Reh '88" recording, which until this point was unavailable to the public, was unearthed and graciously offered by Don of the Dead (Nunslaughter), one of the earliest and most fervent worshipers of this black-doom cult. The track listing for this version of the release is as follows:

01. Possessed Mutants of War
02. The Fog
03. Unholy Black Slut
04. Sacrifice
05. Unholy Black Slut
06. Voodoo Mass
07. The Fog
