Metallica Frontman Enters Rehab

Heavy metal legends Metallica has announced that they have been forced to cancel their upcoming shows in Australia and New Zealand, due to frontman James Hetfield checking himself into rehab for an unspecified addiction. A message from the band reads as follows:

"We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.

"As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again.

"We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can. Once again, we are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who travel great distances to experience our shows. We appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, thank you for being a part of our Metallica family.

"All tickets purchased to the shows in Australia and New Zealand, including Enhanced Experiences and Black Tickets, will be fully refunded. More details on how to obtain your refund are below." More...

Borknagar Posts New Music Video Online

Norway’s avant-garde metallers, Borknagar, arise at their most spirited and resplendent on their 11th studio album, True North, out now via Century Media Records.

Today, the band launch a video directed by Lars A. Nedland and Alexander Olsson / RedinkFrame for the album’s closing track, “Voices”. Check it out below.

Lars A. Nedland (main vocalist on “Voices”) commented about the track and its video as follows: "'Voices' is a song cut from a different cloth. It was made in one sitting, it was created backwards, and it came to life in a creative frenzy where it felt like it forced itself into existence rather than being consciously written. All the vocals were crafted over a single keyboard note and a simple clicktrack, and the song as it appears on the album is almost frighteningly close to the original demo recording, including many of the original demo vocal takes - though the music is further developed and masterfully enhanced by the eminent musicianship of my fellow Borknamen.

"Thematically speaking, 'Voices' is both an elegy and an introspective celebration of freedom. It’s a musical rendering of longing and a directional push towards breaking the shackles of limitation. A lifetime of contemplation distilled into five minutes of music. I had images appearing in my mind as I was writing the music, so naturally those images had to come to life as a film to complement it. I have been directing for many years, so I took on the job of piecing everything together myself, in collaboration with Alex Olsson and the production company RedinkFrame. This is how the visual side of 'Voices' was born. Shot on Alexa with a wide assortment of lenses (including my favourite optical tool, Lensbaby) at 25, 50 and 200 fps, the result came in closer to my vision than I ever imagined possible. This is what voices look like. This is how I imagine their echoes linger in us.” More...

Pyramido Premieres New Music Video

Today, Pyramido releases a full length album as well as a music video for their single "Insikten". The brand new album, entitled simply ”Fem”, which is Swedish for the number five, was recorded and mixed during the fall of 2018 with engineer John Rönnerblad. Written over the course of a few years, Pyramido has taken the time to let the new material breathe and evolve naturally, not being afraid of trying out new tempos, melodies or ideas sometimes foreign to the genre. The album is released on Vinyl (Red/Black), CD and Digital.

Drawing inspiration from the delicate melodic figures of dreamy 90‘s indie rock, the folky fuzz of vintage Swedish psychedelia and the bittersweet harmonies of Henrik Berggren and Broder Daniel. Then imagine these influences being suffocated by the impact of the heaviness and aggression that is Pyramido, leaving only about a few percent of them passably breathing. The result being a somewhat heavy-hearted and melodic sludge metal/hardcore attack, once perfectly described as ”…a warm hug rather than a punch in the face”.

The album is out on Vinyl, CD and Digital. More...

Warbringer Posts New Lyric Video Online

Three weeks into their ongoing 54-shows-in-54-days co-headlining tour with Enforcer, the Los Angeles-based thrash quintet Warbringer has released a new single, "Firepower Kills." The song can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music and other digital platforms. A lyric video – created by Hannah Left Wright of Shadowborn Group – can be viewed below.

"Firepower Kills" – the digital cover for which was designed by Hugo Juarez of Heavy Defender Studios – serves as the first official taste of Warbringer's forthcoming sixth album, due to be released via Napalm Records in February. The group has been playing the track live during their current tour with Enforcer, which kicked off in San Diego on Sept. 5 and continues tonight at Toronto's Velvet Underground. MetalSucks recently posted fan-filmed footage of the group's performances of the song in both San Francisco and Sacramento, calling it “an aggressive, thrashy number that seems to have done a fine job of keeping the kids a-moshin‘... it‘s reassuring to know the can still crank out thrash riffs with the best of ‘em.”

Warbringer's new album will serve as the follow-up to 2017's "Woe To The Vanquished," which Metal Hammer said “delivers all the pounding riffage and machine-gun tempos a thrash freak could want.” The as-yet-untitled new record – which was helmed by returning producer Mike Plotnikoff (In Flames, Fear Factory, All That Remains) and mastered once again by Howie Weinberg (Anthrax, Slayer, Overkill) – will be coming out on Napalm Records and marks the band's first full-length release with bassist Chase Bryant (Oni), who joined the group last year. Cyhra Reveals New Album Details

Boosted by the success of their 2017 debut, Letters To Myself, modern melodic metal high-flyers Cyhra are using that momentum and pushing forward with a new album - the sophomore "No Halos In Hell" will see the light of day on November 15th via Nuclear Blast.

Founded by vocalist Jake E (ex-Amaranthe) and guitarist Jesper Strömblad (ex-In Flames), CYHRA has gone from being reminiscent of the duo's former bands to having a unique identity. In fact, No Halos In Hell is one of those rare albums that defies being neatly placed in a genre box; coming out heavy and dynamic, the record is loaded with melodic vocal hooks that stay nailed to the brain for days, achieving maximum impact throughout. Fusing a relentless energy and heaviness the best way possible was Cyhra's main focus this time out. The addition of guitarist Euge Valovirta (ex-Shining) as a full member has raised the creative process. More...

Interview

Dayseeker Discusses New Album "Sleeptalk"

The summer may be over but that doesn't mean new albums are slowing down. Today marks the release of Orange County's post hardcore band Dayseeker's fourth album, "Sleeptalk," which has already got fans talking and interests piquing. The group has changed direction a little bit this time, adopting a more melody focused approach, but how are fans taking this decision? I caught up with the band to discuss all the more.

Diamond Oz: First of all, congratulations on the new album, "Sleeptalk." It's quite an intriguing title, what's the meaning behind it?

Dayseeker: Sleeptalk is basically a metaphor for my own guilt with an ex girlfriend. It depicts myself asleep, saying another woman's name while my girlfriend was lying awake next to me. Not a true story by any means but it seemed like an interesting way to express my emotions at the time.

Diamond Oz: In a press release, the new record is described as "cleaner" and "more contemporary". What led to this change in sound and do you fear any backlash from long time fans over this approach?

Dayseeker: We truthfully lost our passion for playing heavier music as the years have gone on. We'd find ourselves listening to Ed Sheeran, Khalid, a lot more pop driven and softer music overall and at some point, we didn't want to feel like we were forcing a heavier sound just to appease everyone but us. We feared backlash initially but the response has been overwhelmingly positive with the new stuff. Honestly even better than it was with our older material.
