Overcast Signs To Metal Blade
Metal Blade has announced the signing of legendary Boston Massachusetts metal act OVERCAST to its roster. On August 19th OVERCAST will release their Metal Blade debut, "Reborn to Kill Again," a collection of 11 re-recorded classic tracks and two previously unreleased tracks produced by Adam Dutkiewicz.
"Finally, after much waiting and wondering if it would ever see the light of day, Overcast is Reborn to Kill Again!!! We are all very excited to be working with Metal Blade Records for this release. It is a legendary label that has been home to some of the most influential bands in metal history. It was actually Metal Blade who gave Overcast our first release on CD as part of one of the Metal Massacre comps way back in the day so it seems as if everything is coming full circle. The time has come once again for the beast known as Overcast to rise again. You have been warned." comments Brian Fair

Ozzfest 2008 Confirmed As One-Day Event
OZZFEST--the original and iconic hard rock festival--returns in 2008 as a one-day stadium spectacular on Saturday, August 9 in Dallas, Texas that teams OZZFEST founder and namesake Ozzy Osbourne (in his only U.S. concert appearance this summer) with Metallica (marking their OZZFEST debut).
Produced by Sharon Osbourne and AEG LIVE, the all-day festival at Pizza Hut Park in hard music-loving Dallas will feature three stages of non-stop talent (with many OZZFEST alumni) and reliably twisted OZZFEST side attractions.
The full main stage lineup will also spotlight performances by Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Hellyeah, Jonathan Davis (Korn), Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica and In This Moment. Also scheduled on the main stage is a special all-star tribute to slain Pantera guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott. Second stage acts include Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. The Texas (third) stage—“an homage to the “many great metal bands that come from Texas,” says Sharon Osbourne--features The Sword, Drowning Pool and Rigor Mortis.
“Ozzy just finished an 11-month world tour so I think he deserves a summer off,” Sharon says about this year’s one-day OZZFEST. “We’re going to be a stadium destination festival for now--we have gone past doing the sheds every summer. We’ve given everyone else the blueprint and we have to keep evolving OZZFEST. This is just the beginning; AEG Live and I have a lot of new ideas for OZZFEST."
This year’s dynamic line-up encompasses artists who’ve played OZZFEST before in different incarnations such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down); Jonathan Davis (Korn); Hellyeah’s Vinnie Paul (Pantera) and Chad Gray (Mudvayne); Kingdom of Sorrow’s Jamie Jasta (Hatebreed) and Kirk Windstein (Down); and Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura) of Cavalara Conspiracy. Other OZZFEST graduates include Shadows Fall, Sevendust, Devildriver, Drowning Pool and In This Moment.
“Ozzy has great relationships with all of the bands that have played OZZFEST,” says Sharon. “We’re the only real festival for harder edge bands and these artists have been very loyal to us--there is lots of love on this line-up."

Shadows Fall Brings A Variety of Metal To Jaxx
I was happy to hear just a week before this show that Shadows Fall's tour was hitting Jaxx in Springfield, Virginia on April 13, 2008. I had already resigned to missing the tour, which featured a great lineup with Droid, Arsis, The Showdown, and Kataklysm as support, because the Baltimore date was the day before Ministry's final stop in my area, and I'm just too old for back-to-back shows! The April 13 show worked out perfectly, as I really wanted to catch this tour. The show was also on a weekend and I had not been to Jaxx in quite a while, not that I needed so many reasons to go to this show. More...

Dimebag Tribute Song Released, Audio Available
SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner, former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, ex-JUDAS PRIEST/ICED EARTH and current BEYOND FEAR/YNGWIE MALMSTEEN singer Tim "Ripper" Owens and DAITRIBE guitarist Tristan "1690" Grigsby have joined forces to record a song for the upcoming tribute album to late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Entitled "Leave It Alone", the track features solos by special guests Nick Bowcott (ex-GRIM REAPER) and fan Brian Cashmore. It was recorded and mixed in Chicago at Farview Recording by Jason Walsh, with additional tracks recorded at Saltmine studios in Phoenix, Arizona and Galahad in Cleveland.
The track is being streamed in full at this location.
"Leave It Alone" will be released to radio on May 6 and will be made available for download exclusively via iTunes. All proceeds from the song will go to the Little Kids Rock school program.
Little Kids Rock believes that all children in our public schools deserve music education as music education is a transforming force in children's lives. Dimebag had the same philosophy with always sharing his passion and love of music to the world inspiring kids to pick up a guitar.
Commented Owens: "It was a lot of fun to help write and record this tune with some great musicians and friends, and it goes to a great cause! So I would love for the fans to get off their asses and buy this tune for charity and not just a charity... it's Dime's charity. For once, don't download it for free!"
Added Ellefson: "Ironically, [the recording of the song] led to a really cool metal jam we did for Rockhouse at NAMM this year, a gig which brought in our friend Ripper to really tear it up on vocals. 'Leave It Alone' is not only a cool song but it was also the beginning of a great working relationship with me and Jason Bittner, doing clinics, jams, and so forth."

Shadows Fall Singer Offers Tour Update
Massachusetts metallers SHADOWS FALL have just completed an exhausting run of shows on the far side of the globe in Australia, Korea, Japan and the Philippines. Each day this week vocalist Brian Fair will be recapping stories from the road in a guest-blog for MetalSucks. The latest entry focuses on the band's historic visit to The Philippines. An excerpt from the blog entry follows:
"We had never been to the Philippines before and honestly had no idea what to expect. There was no way we could have been prepared for the reception we were about to receive. The second we got off the plane, we knew this was going to be something special. We were greeted at the gate by an army of photographers from all the local newspapers and magazines. We were then whisked through immigration and customs and taken to a special VIP lounge where we discovered that we were on the front page of the local paper!! Unreal. After battling through the insane traffic of Manila, we headed to a local radio station to help promote the show. This was going to be the first metal show in the Philippines in years so the anticipation was incredibly high. We headed back to the hotel for some much needed rest and recovery and also to prepare for our trip to the beach the next day. Since we had two days off before the show, Vernon, the promoter, had set it up so we could head to the island paradise of Boracay to enjoy two days on the white sand beaches." More...
Shadows Fall Deny Rumours Of Split With Label
SHADOWS FALL vocalist Brian Fair has checked in with the following update:
"What’s up everyone? We hope everyone had a nice Easter Weekend.
Now that we’re home from our crazy Australian – Asian tour, I wanted to share some stories with all of you. But before we get into that, I wanted to briefly touch on a subject.
Since returning home, we have been made aware of some rumours involving ourselves and our record label. Let me make this very clear ... we have no intention of splitting with our label. Atlantic Records and Roadrunner Worldwide have been amazing to us throughout the release of Threads Of Life and we look forward to continuing our working relationship with both on our next release. It appears that some people out there don’t know the difference between "rumours" and actual "news". Somehow we were linked to a blind news item that mentioned neither us or our label and a few people decided to assume it was us. Well, we all know what happens when you ASSume ...
And now that the serious stuff is through, onto the stupidity..
Check out this interview (below) we did with the (not so) upstanding folks at No Good TV." More...
Kataklysm To Support Shadows Fall On Tour
Northern hyper-blasters, KATAKLYSM, have just been confirmed as direct support to SHADOWS FALL this April! Also appearing on the tour are THE SHOWDOWN, ARSIS and DROID. Lead singer Maurizio Iacono had this to say about the bands hectic schedule in support of their upcoming release, “Prevail”:
"Well I guess our break time is over. Today we will be having a listening session of our new album ‘Prevail’ for the media and our friends in Hollywood, then we fly off to Australia for our first ever tour there! We are planning a massive touring campaign centered around the new album. On our return from Australia we will prepare for a two week run with SHADOWS FALL. It will be cool to tour with those guys again since it’s been a while since we’ve played together. We are also working on a Canadian headlining tour for the end of May with our good friends INTO ETERNITY. As many of you already know as well we will be on the ‘Summer Slaughter Tour’ this June/July. So in true KATAKLYSM road warrior tradition we have set ourselves up for something like 60 to 70 shows from a April to July!
"We will be premiering some new songs on our MySpace next month and we’re thinking of playing two new tracks on the SHADOWS FALL run! We are very proud of ‘Prevail’ and the comments from those who’ve heard it so far have been OUTSTANDING! We can’t wait to see all you crazy fucks out there in the pit with fists in the air! See you soon!”

Shadows Fall Parting Ways With Atlantic Records?
MTV.com's "Metal File" has posted a "blind item" involving "one of the country's best-known metal acts [which] looks to be parting ways with its major label and plans to return to its original label home in the next few months." Speculation is that the band in question is the Massachusetts-based metal group SHADOWS FALL, whose last studio album — and Atlantic Records debut — "Threads of Life", has sold 93,000 copies in the United States since its April 2007 release — a fraction of the 301,000 sales total achieved by its predecessor, 2004's "The War Within", which was released by Century Media.
In a June 2006 interview with MTV.com, SHADOWS FALL singer Brian Fair spoke about jumping ship from Century Media Records to Atlantic for their most recent studio effort.
"We were friends with [the folks at Century Media] before we signed with the label, and they definitely went above and beyond what we thought an indie label could possibly do," he said. "They did offer us a great deal [to stay with the company before we signed with Atlantic], but we wanted to ... see if we could take it to another level.
"It was a tough decision [to sign with Atlantic], but one we felt we really needed to make. We've been together 10 years, so we came with a contract and we knew exactly what we wanted. If people weren't into that initial thing, we knew we could cut them off right away. We weren't settling. We were brutally honest right at the beginning, and it stopped a lot of those dinners right away.
"These labels knew they weren't signing BRITNEY SPEARS," Fair continued. "They were just getting a bunch of Masshole metalheads. We were just psyched to get some free pizza and beer."
Metal Artists Unite For Dimebag Memorial Song
"Leave it Alone" is the song that features a number of heavy metal artists including Shadows Fall drummer Jason Bittner, F5 bassist David Ellefson, DaiTribe guitarist Tristan '1690' Grigsby, and recently announced Yngwie Malmsteen (ex-Iced Earth, ex-Judas Priest) frontman Tim "Ripper" Owens. The song was written for the upcoming memorial album to Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott. "Leave it Alone" features solos by special guests, Nick Bowcott (ex-Grim Reaper) and fan Brian Cashmore. The song was recorded and mixed in Chicago at Farview Recording by Jason Walsh with additional tracks recorded at Saltmine studios in Phoenix, Arizona.
"Leave it Alone" will be released to radio in April and will be made available for download exclusively via iTunes. All proceeds from the song will go to Little Kids Rock. A preview of the track can be heard on its MySpace page.
