Jason Bittner Joins Flotsam And Jetsam
After parting ways with Kelly Smith last month, Flotsam and Jetsam today announces the recruitment of Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall).
"In my opinion, Jason in one of only a couple of men on my short list for the job," states Kelly.
"Jason's an amazing all-around drummer, a true professional, good friend, and solid stand-up guy. I was humbled to hear, after first meeting Jason in 1988 in Boston, that I had inspired him as a drummer."
Jason Bittner comments: "I have been a Flotsam and Jetsam fan for decades, following the band around the East Coast in the eighties and nineties. I've been lucky enough to be in the background of the Flotsam and Jetsam camp as a fan, supporter, and gear leader to my dear friend, Kelly David Smith.
"I am hard at work relearning all the classic Flotz material and can't wait to record and tour with the band in 2015. This will become my focus after the completion of the 2015 U.S. Shadows Fall hiatus tour, which will happen spring/summer 2015.
"As they say… 'Flotz 'till death!' See you in Europe, in April."
Stay tuned for details on an upcoming album and new tour dates from Flotsam and Jetsam.

If some of this stuff is too “scene” for you, or if you live nowhere near Florida, then share this information on social media for your friends. The further we spread it, the more ticket giveaways we can launch elsewhere, perhaps for YOUR favorite bands. You elitist prick.
Otherwise, for those able and willing to make it, fire an email to podcast@metalunderground.com with one (or both) of the headlining bands in the subject heading, and your full name matching your ID in the message body.
Now, on to this week’s topics. Co-hosts Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) discuss some disappointing news: the impending hiatus of long-running Massachusetts metal crew Shadows Fall. After seven albums and over a full decade of worldwide touring, various factors have compelled the guys to hang up the spurs indefinitely.
Next, a happier subject, if murder, cruelty, and icepick lobotomies are your idea of a good time. If not, then you can always ignore the outrageous lyrics and enjoy the musical brutality, because death metal classics Cannibal Corpse are returning with a new album, “A Skeletal Domain,” the band’s thirteenth. Mike received an early promo and is eager to tell you all about it.
Finally - and you probably knew this was coming, so shut your trap and listen if you don’t like it; you might learn something - we discuss the latest Slipknot news (actual news, not gossip). The Iowan progenitors of the “American New Wave” of heavy metal have at long last revealed all pertinent details of their upcoming album “5: The Gray Chapter,” as well as unleashed a new single, “The Devil In I.” Stay tuned for our variety of personal reactions to these developments.

Shadows Fall To Go On Hiatus
Massachusetts metal band Shadows Fall will embark on the group's "final" European tour in less than a week. The “Hell on Earth” tour will begin in Frankfurt, Germany on Aug. 29 and runs until Sept. 14. The tour also features Unearth, The Acacia Strain and War of Ages.
The band has been touring non-stop for over a decade and has decided that it’s time to “take a hiatus” from future extensive touring. In addition to this upcoming European run, Shadows Fall is planning a final North American tour and will possibly visit a few other territories some time over the next year.
"There are many factors that are behind this difficult decision that the band has been dealing with for some time now," the band said in its update. "In a nutshell it comes down to families, member availability, and finances. Further impacting our decision is the fact that we have two members with young children. Plain and simple, they want to be with their families to watch their kids grow. Touring full time in a band these days has never been more difficult financially. When you have to ensure the future comfort of your family, difficult decisions have to be made.
"Another reason is the fact that our lead guitarist (Jon Donais) is now in Anthrax, which makes it hard for us to do any extensive touring with our full lineup. Due to his obligations with Anthrax, he will not be able to join us on this European tour. Felipe Roa will once again fill Jon’s position and we are thankful to him for joining us on this run. Also returning for this tour is original bassist Paul Romanko who has sat out from touring for the last two years to raise his son. More...
