^I'd be lying if I said Barker was a bad drummer. Mounier's more than half-decent too. Cryptopsy are one hell of a band :D
Gotta agree with Cynic, though, Best and Top articles in mags look more and more like a money-grabbing effort every year... Then again, gotta make money to be able to run your magazine, I guess. (shrugs)
Now Playing: Pink Floyd - "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"

Don't take my word for it, there's 14 reviews here (www.metal-archives.com/review.php?id=193915) of which the highest review gives it 38/100 haha. Seriously though it was pretty bad, Flo is incredible on it as usual but overall it's... just... bad.
Yeah definitely, Adrian's style in ATGs was just so original.

Whoever would actually be in my top five, all i know is mr. Meshuggah is in it, everybody else is a debate. If my band had come out with an album yet, MY drummer would be near the top. he plays like Chris Adler but faster and more technical, blows my mind every time i play with him lol.
The guy in Gojira would probaby be at least in my top ten, if not 5, what's his name...?

Yea what is Gene Hoglan doin these days?
Tomas Haake and Derek Roddy nice but why Jason Bitner is there god who knows. Chris Adler and Joey Jordison are both awesome drummers but I don't think I would put them in the top 5 (or Joey in the top 30 even). Hell their are many good drummers who could be here and many have been mentioned already like Hellhammer, George Kollias, Danny Carey, Adrian Erlandson, Sean Reinert, and Flo (but agreed with Cynic about "The Unspoken King"); but what bout Dave Lombardo, Trym Torson, Inferno, Martin Lopez, Fenriz, Jurgen Reil, and Pete Sandoval.
Post 33 I've always felt Frost was a bit overated. He is still an awesome drummer tho.

I put Sandoval on top 5 just for Altars of Madness (not to mention his work with Terrorizer was awesome aswell) , but their I album should put him alittle higher (imo anyway). Some Mortiis I see, I've heard a song or two and I'm looking for something by him, especially since I've been getting into alot electronic music in general lately, you have a recomendation for a starting point?
LARDASS I have alot of respect for Frost and his skills and he is definetly a great drummer (I've just always felt he was a bit overated, I feel the same thing with the drummer from Cannibal Corpse), but his ability to play 10 shows with a broken foot shows his dedication to what he does not necessarily his talent.
47. writes:
Steve Asheim from Deicide is pretty aggressive as well, everything seems psychotically precise and fast on TSoR.
I prefer Mortiis as an ambient artist, I just listened to his "Crypt of the Wizard" album today and man, it is SPECTACULAR, ambient/electronic stuff. Maybe it's just the weather at the moment but it put me in a very troll like mood :P You can always try out the pioneers Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode though, very 80s synth feel. For more weird experimental electronica you could try Squarepusher or Aphex Twin or something, a few of my friends keep mentioning these spastic techno bands haha.
Fenriz also put out two ambient albums you might like under the name Neptune Towers. Not exactly Burzum standard but pretty interesting.

My vote would be for Hellhammer, as there were frequently moments in Dimmu Borgir's "In Sorte Diaboli" when I was thinking that had to be a drum machine. Then again, I haven't heard any of the Shadows Fall albums after their first one and I haven't really listened to Lamb of God or Slipknot at all so I can't really comment on how their drumming measures up.
Cruor: My personal favorite Mortiis album is "Smell of Rain", but if you prefer a more Nine Inch Nails style sound start out with "The Grudge".

This is a tough list to call, everyone who has been mentioned are fukin killers!!!!!!!!!!! Sandoval, Ashiem, Lombardo, Bostaph, Dailor, Frost...... we can go on forever!!
Now Playing: Gojira-Ocean Planet

Txmetalhead your thinking of the f***ing atomic clock himself Gene Hoglan also of Death, Testament, and Dark Angel; Brann Dailor is a great choice as well.
Cynic, their is always someone I forget on a list such as this and Steve Asheim is def. one of those really great drummers who doesn't really come to mind (mostly because when people think of Deicide most people think of Glen Benton and satanism instead of the talent of Jack Owen, Ralph, and Steve as well as back in the day the Hoffman bros). Thanks for the recomendation of Mortiis I will definetly have to check it out, as well as the others (by the way the last recomendation list you gave me I discovered the greatness of Boris thanx). Fenriz seems to have way too many side projects but I haven't heard any of the music of any of them, but all ambient albums from the black metal god himself? Hell I've been diggin the last 2 Burzum albums I will definetly check out Neptune Towers.
xFiruath I remember despising NIN when I first heard them but people change, maybe a year ago if you played any Daft Punk I would have hated it than but I can't stop listening to them now and I am developing a taste for just about all electronic music now and will definetly give both The Grudge and Smell of Rain a shot ty for the recomendations (now that I think about it I will have to go back and give another listen to NIN).

Tim Yeung EASILY is number 1 on my list. And actually, Jordan Mancino of AILD is an awesome drummer, one of the better ones i've seen. I also love "Axe" from Opeth. But to be honest, the best metal drummer to ever exist is Mike Portnoy of Dream Theatre, if it wasn't for Neil Peart, he would be the #1 ranked drummer in the world in ANY genre. He is amazing.
63. writes:
Although im not too happy with that list, i like derrick roddy and chris adler, but chris isnt a top five guy to me, his style is just more fitting for his band... and shadow falls is not deserving at all. Joey jordison is good or great, but not deserving of top five in my opinion.

Pete Sandoval
Frost
Steve Asheim
Neil Peart
Hellhammer
Nick Barker
Mike Portnoy
Gene Hoglan
The list goes on... But I'm not sure about who I'd rank top 5..
George Kollias.. I've heard the name before, but where? I'm always on the lookout for good music to listen to.

Phil Collins, I completely forgot about that motherf***er....
I'm with Tx, That man is a beast. I actually saw him live when I was little, and I still can't stop being blown away by his drum solo. I don't give a f*** if he isn't metal, he should still win. After that, I agree with Mr. Meshuggah as the winner. Hellhammer is up there too, and whoever the f*** is in Dimmu Borgir has really been getting high up in my book from listing to "In Sorte.." so much.
Now Playing: Mors Principium- "Sinners Defeat" (if you like Meshuggah, check these f***ers out)
73. writes:
^Hellhammer played on In Sorte Diaboli by Dimmu Borgir. I get tired of people finally recognizing Hellhammer for that album, while it is a good album but damn pick up a Mayhem album and let it spin than tell me that In Sorte Diaboli is what Hellhammer should be remembered for, in particular De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and Ordo Ad Chao.

"May I inquire what the differance is between your favorite drummer list, and your best drummer list is Cruor?"
Yes you may. The difference is that on my favs. I love the style of that drummer, the way he plays and all that. I like the style of Gene Hoglan better than any other drummer but I think that Neil Peart is a better drummer as far as skill and creativity goes.
I wouldn't say Phil Collins is a badass on drums but he is awesome at them.
Now Playing: Daft Punk- Aerodynamic
79. writes:
I agree with Tomas Haake, IMO the most technical and creative drummer in metal at this moment I can find.
Other suggestions would include; Daney Carey (has to be a definate IMO, technical precision balanced with creativity), the Glassjaw drummer (Durijah Lang I think? After listening to 'Worship and Tribute' you will know what I mean) and I guess just because I have been listening to them alot recently, the dude they call 'The Orbinator' from unsigned band 'Periphery' has been tickling my ears with pleasure.

Best _____ and Top 100 _____ always seems like cheap money grabbing articles for magazines now. Though Haake is a great choice, you can't fault the guys talent or originality. Personally listening to Reinert's new work on Cynic's new demos he takes the cake for me.
Oh and any list that puts Derek Roddy below the dude from Shadows Fall gets a big thumbs down from me!
