Ozzfest 2008 Confirmed As One-Day Stadium Festival in Dallas, Texas
Band Photo: Metallica (?)
OZZFEST--the original and iconic hard rock festival--returns in 2008 as a one-day stadium spectacular on Saturday, August 9 in Dallas, Texas that teams OZZFEST founder and namesake Ozzy Osbourne (in his only U.S. concert appearance this summer) with Metallica (marking their OZZFEST debut).
Produced by Sharon Osbourne and AEG LIVE, the all-day festival at Pizza Hut Park in hard music-loving Dallas will feature three stages of non-stop talent (with many OZZFEST alumni) and reliably twisted OZZFEST side attractions.
The full main stage lineup will also spotlight performances by Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Hellyeah, Jonathan Davis (Korn), Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica and In This Moment. Also scheduled on the main stage is a special all-star tribute to slain Pantera guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott. Second stage acts include Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. The Texas (third) stage—“an homage to the “many great metal bands that come from Texas,” says Sharon Osbourne--features The Sword, Drowning Pool and Rigor Mortis.
“Ozzy just finished an 11-month world tour so I think he deserves a summer off,” Sharon says about this year’s one-day OZZFEST. “We’re going to be a stadium destination festival for now--we have gone past doing the sheds every summer. We’ve given everyone else the blueprint and we have to keep evolving OZZFEST. This is just the beginning; AEG Live and I have a lot of new ideas for OZZFEST."
This year’s dynamic line-up encompasses artists who’ve played OZZFEST before in different incarnations such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down); Jonathan Davis (Korn); Hellyeah’s Vinnie Paul (Pantera) and Chad Gray (Mudvayne); Kingdom of Sorrow’s Jamie Jasta (Hatebreed) and Kirk Windstein (Down); and Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura) of Cavalara Conspiracy. Other OZZFEST graduates include Shadows Fall, Sevendust, Devildriver, Drowning Pool and In This Moment.
“Ozzy has great relationships with all of the bands that have played OZZFEST,” says Sharon. “We’re the only real festival for harder edge bands and these artists have been very loyal to us--there is lots of love on this line-up."

God damn this sucks very good line up....and i live in West f***ing Virginia.....there is no way i can make texas...this blows....f*** OZZFEST the last three years have been terrible...well the bands...but this year kicks a$$ line up and no where close to me....f*** it....lol
I figured as much,Ozzfest is better off being one day big event then going to town after town, last year you couldnt even give me a ticket to free ozzfest, none of the lineup really impresses me for this Ozzfest other the, Ozzy and like Hellyeah,Devildriver,Shadows Fall,Goatwhore, and In This Moment so I am not missing out,I just wonder how well Mayhem fest is gonna do and if Sounds of The Underground is gonna bother to be around,I say in this day and age its much better bet just to go to a club show then go to a festival with some metal bands since metal festivals are getting more and more scarce in the US plus the lack luster bands that play at some of them.
Saw this coming-with how Ozzy was touring non stop since last Oct. Guess it's gonna be like Lalapaloosa (however you spell it) and just be like one show a year--plus the economy sucks and I'm sure Ozzfest lost $$$ with the freefest last year.
Glad in the Mass area, we still have the NE metal & hardcore fest and Rock N Shock, plus it's cool cuase they always hold those on weekends.
Honestly this sucks. Last years free line up was alright. I liked in this moment, Lamb of God and Static X. The rest of the bands were meh. This is good for Texas but I am keeping my but in Jersey. Sounds, Mayhem , summer slaughter and warped will be the shows I am going to see.
i agree with most great line up. but jesus man! i live here in san antonio and august is the hottest month of the entire summer and they only let you bring in one bottle of water...better bring yourself a bodybag or someting. but other than that i'm still going! hopefully this wont be ozzy's last cuz they need a big a$$ tour for that. good luck to all who are traveling.
why in the fukk is everyone complaining about last years ozzfest
1. it was free
2. Nile, Behemoth, Ozzy, devildriver, Daath, 3iob, LOG(for those who liked 'em) for free. C'mon now seriously.
and regarding Ozzfest 2008 I understand Ozzy needs a break, cuz he's been on tour since last years Ozzfest, but why bot make it like '06 where ozzy just showed up for a few select dated. I think its BS to have it in Texas. They should make it like in the middle of the country like Kansas or something., It will still be a long drive for most people, but not as long as driving in Texas. I live in Indiana and there is no way in hell I'm driving to Texas, especially when gas prices go up to $4 bucks a gallon this summer.
^ That was pretty funny.
Seriously though, I actually had some visions of that when I moved to Dallas from New England. The good news, Dallas isn't like that at all. It's actually...liberal. (Not as liberal as Austin, but liberal!) Fun town, loads of shows. We get Ozzfest and Metal Masters within 13 days of each other. (We get Mayhem too...but yeah, that show isn't appealing at all).
Make the trip, Metal Underground beers all around.
there are ruining all they great tours and making them stationary to one city...sure they will get more and "better" bands this way...but Ozzfest was meant to bring metal to the masses. That can not happpen when there are alot of metal fans who would rather not travel to Dallas just to see another metal show
This sucks monkey d***. how can Ozzfest be limited to just one city, what is this Lollapaf***inlooza. Not only will I not be able to go (because I live in Illinois), but the lineup is stacked with some of my favorite bands (Hellyeah, DevilDriver, Shadows Fall). What sucks the most is the fact that I finally have a chance to see Metallica, and they take it away from me. I'm a die-hard Metallica fan and still haven't seen them live. They're definitely at the top of my list for bands that I want to c, but haven't yet. Well at least there's Mayhem to look forward 2. Peace. DIMEBAG DARRELL and VINNIE PAUL 4 LIFE.
I'm thinking about how much it would be worth to me to see Metallica, The Sword, and Shads all in one day. If I didn't live in Ohio, it'd be a possibility, but I can't honestly pay for two plane tickets, plus whatever they'll be gouging for these tickets, plus beer. Seems kinda silly. My brother saw Metallica in Pontiac, MI for $125 and that was WITH backstage passes. Realistically, for me, it would be a really expensive The Sword concert. And they're one of the first daylight bands, too. They should, at least, be on the second stage, AT LEAST!
*sigh*
Blasphemy.
To post 32 - the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on the exploits of one Ed. Gein. Gein wasn't even from Texas..those supposed murders took place like Iowa...or something. The movie was based on his story and even the tales of his life aren't all accurate. He did make human lamp posts and chandiliers(sp) from bones...so that was pretty freaky. I must say, though, the movies were pretty entertaining.
I agree with txporkchop - Texas is the hottest fukkin' state in the U.S.A., aside from Louisiana - yet all these metal shows do the bone head thing - and make most of the concerts in the fukkin' summer. I guess it is because kids are out of school. Fukk that! The heat is unbearable,at times, esp. during Aug. Sh1t I went to the 2000 Ozzfest in Houston, Texas, and had to lay down in the shade half the time because the heat index must have been 110 degrees. When I got home, I puked my guts out from heat exhaustion and possibly the liquor..hehe. You, yanks in the North have got it made. lol Concerts in Texas are like visiting the fukkin' sun.
The South shall rise again....
Set list from Metallica in LA(maybe?) the other night...take out "Fuel" and "Sandman", and add in "Whiplash" "Ride the Lightning" or "Fade to Black" and you have a killer set! Bring this to Ozzfest...
01. Creeping Death
02. Fuel
03. For Whom The Bell Tolls
04. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
05. ...And Justice For All
06. Sad But True
07. Disposable Heroes
08. One
09. Master Of Puppets
10. Battery
- - - - -
11. Last Caress
12. No Remorse
13. Enter Sandman
- - - - -
14. Fight Fire With Fire
15. Seek and Destroy
havent posted anything in a while here,
this is by far the worst lineup of Ozzest i have ever seen in my life...
in this moment is sh**ty, KoRn sucks so Johnathan Davis will just be even more terrible of an act
Serj sounds just like SOAD so thats nothing new at all...these bands are all mediocre nothing truely stands out as being amazing of phenomenal at all....dissapointing indeed, the metal masters tour and the rockstar mayhem tours are better than this BS. Old Metallica, devildriver, ozzy and shadows fall are the only good acts on this tour....wait....i mean show...casue they are too lazy to plan a whole tour...change is good but c'mon...seriously sh**ty to the sh**ttiest sh** times infinity....indeed!!!
Yeah, really.
Thinking realistically, mind you, how much "old" Metallica do you really think they're going to play? I'm guessing a major oversaturation of new stuff mixed with some of the lazier songs from Load / Reload / S/T, and MAYBE a medley of older stuff, like they usually do. How depressing. I hate watching my heroes swell up and die right in front of me. And that's why going to this Ozzfest isn't even an option for me. I can see Gwar and Clutch in the same weekend, and then Type O Negative and Hatebreed the next month. I think I'll be saving my money for those. To hell with Ozzfest. I think they should let Ozzy's old tired a$$ retire and let the tour go on without him headlining. They did it a couple times, and I'm sure it was just as lucrative, so why not do it again? Why go to the lengths of alienating an entire nation just so Ozzy doesn't have to run out of breath walking onstage? That's hardly fair to his fans. But I'm sure they got it pretty bad last year with nobody paying up but sponsors, and I'm sure a lot of bands were complaining. But then again, that was hardly worth a free ticket. As far as I'm concerned, if I'm seeing Lordi live, someone better be paying ME some money.
I had a lot of fun with Ozzfest when it was all about "fxck the other tours, we're more affordable and have better bands" but, apparently, Sharon Osbourne must be in dire need of finances if she's going to THESE lengths to make sure her frail crusty scarecrow of a husband doesn't burn himself out carrying a bucket of water.
...and I don't want it to sound like I don't appreciate what Ozzy's done, but come on. Any 6 year old could tell you that Ozzy's only as good as his current guitarist, anyways.
And if Pink Floyd knew when to call it quits, Ozzy should know, also. You quit before you start embarassing yourself. And the last time I checked, Ozzy has been walking around onstage like a child with a sh**-filled diaper for the last 15+ years. You know that thing Ozzy does where he kind of holds his arms straight out at from his side, open palmed, then he just kind of does this dementia-induced stagger around the stage? I mean, fer chrissakes, the guy broke his goddamned LEG by just jumping like a retard onstage. And that was, what, 7 years ago?
Give me a f***ing break.
I dunno about your theory on Metallica's setlist there CTJJ, when I saw Metallica last year they played nothing from St. Anger or Load and only one song from Reload. They knew what the fans wanted to hear live so I reckon they'll make it a pretty old school set as Ozzfest.
I doubt it to be honest. I think if this new album is as old school as everyone says it is (by which I mean band members, producers etc.) then they'll throw in a few new songs at the beginning of the tour and see how people react to them live, whilst at the same time keeping the rest of the set to the first five albums and if the new songs receive good enough feedback, add a few more to the set. Either way, I don't think they'll be touching anything between Load and St. Anger.
^ Agreed with that statement. Let's be honest, you can't complain overall with that set list I posted above (with a few exceptions)...and if you can, your probably just not much of a fan in general (and thats fine too).
But, mad at Ozzfest or not mad at Ozzfest - this blows the doors off the Rockstar tour. Do I want to hear Distrubed stink up the stageand see the million Hot Topic kids for Slipknot, or watch Metallica play Seek and Destroy, Creeping Death etc. I'm just one opinion though, but it's the latter.
(I am looking forward to the Metal Masters tour the most for big summer tours though).
Now is the time to get your tickets to Judas Priest's The Metal Masters Tour featuring Priest, Heaven and Hell, Motorhead, and Testament!!! This is THE Metal event of the summer hands down. I'll be at the Dallas show in the front row on August 22nd as a Priest VIP!! It's gonna f***ing rule to hang with Halford and the guys backstage.

i was there too at houston raceway park..august 20, 2000 to be exact. dimebags b-day!!! it was one awesome day!! i thought kittie and soulfly were the best bands on stage 2. Pantera ruled stage 1!!!
but i will have to agree with all those that think it was kinda sh1tty to make it a one day event. at least tour and do 1 show a week, let the people have a chance to be there!!!
Well, I'm sorry America is much more conservative when it comes to Death Metal, Ozzfest is for many, the best we can get over here. I'm actually looking forward to the Summer Slaughter tour coming up(Kataklysm, Vader, Cryptopsy, among others), but it's not very well advertised to the average Metalhead, unlike Ozzfest, which even non-Metal fans know when it's coming up. So lay off on people who go to it, it's usually the best we got!
Oh, and f*** you barneybwilde, JD is not a genius. You like Korn, fine, so do I, but i would not even THINK of putting anyone in that band in a catagory of greatness. And Jealous? Really? The man had to cancel his solo tour because NOBODY BOUGHT ANY TICKETS TO IT. How am I supposed to be jealous of that?
Now Playing: Kataklysm- "The Chains of Power"
Ozzy might be old but he still rocks. I just bought the Sabbath Dio Heaven & Hell DVD and it knocked me out how those old f***ers could put on such an awesome performance. It was a lesson in metal. Ozzy should have let Dio and Sabbath run it this year but I guess he hated Dio.
hmmm... this must be the dumbest Ozzfest ever, bad selection, Metallica, i like their early stuff now, but since the black album, they turned to sh*t, and korn, what's up with that, there not metal, they suck, plus they never wanted anything to do with the metal scene, don't know much about Apolcalyptica, (aren't they more like cello's?), and In This Moment, are those the dumb*sses that did that crappy Pantera cover? ha ha ha ha ha, don't know much about The Sword, i think I heard them once but didn't care for them, there's only a few good new bands, I'm mostly old school, Shadows Fall, decent choice, Rigor Mortis, isn't it that an old band, because I get that name with another mixed up, I may have a little respect, actually alot for HellYeah since, Vinnie Paul's, brother Dime, had his life taken, by a no account low-life, named Nathan Gale, (go get them Vin), Soulfly, hmmm... I do listen to Sepultura now, so anything with Max, deserves respect, SOAD, i like a few of those songs, they need to start doing solos in their music, cause, really, i think music ain't music without a guitar solo, Drowning Pool, like their early stuff, haven't heard their newer stuff, etc, etc, mainly from the looks of this I not going to keep going because, this lineup makes me mad, why can't they put me in charge, lol it would be Main Stage: Benediction, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Naplam Death, Nile, Deicide, Cryptopsy, Obituary, Slayer, Bolt Thrower and Autopsy, Second Stage: Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, (although their father of metal), Pentagram, Motorhead, and Candlemass, now that would be a concert, well back on subject, i rather see monkies on crack really than go to this Ozzfest, the others were good, but, this one blows
so, ozzfest is only gonna be in texas?
that is fuhking balls, y cudnt they do a few more places?!!
they chud at least come out to phx!
well, there goes the ozzfest tradition,
its not like they get good bands anyway,
hey everyone, go to the DethTour!!! or Gigantour!!!
post 79, Ozzfest may suck now, that their getting soft, with a bunch of emo-f*cktards, now if NSYNC were to come, I would never go back to an Ozzfest, I would rather egg, those fa**ot boy band a$$holes, or stone them to death, they move around like idoits, and lip sync to corny lyrics, and suck each others d*** it sucks, please for the love of god don't mention that, I hate pop music, it ain't talent, it ain't music, it's crap
the word of the day is Listen To More Metal
NOW PLAYING: NILE: THE BLESSED DEAD
like brandedcfh420 said, that man that created NSYNC, was a gay pedophile, forgot his name, but hey that man ain't important to me, waste of mind space, and they said the man would touch the boy's of NSYNC sick, and one of them boy-band fags, are gay, i know they suck at music but, one of them, are literally gay, and sucks d***s i'm glad NSYNC's dead, i just wished all pop would be dead, i'm tried of hearing about that whore miley cyrus, she's only famous cause she has a stupidly famous dad, i'm also sick of Britney Spears, stupid crack whore, i would rather listen to Paul Reubens, AKA Pee Wee Herman, on drugs doing a duet, with William Hung, he's gay too, anyway back on subject, if this man also was robbing people of their money, the question is WWOD (What Would Ozzy Do)
bad enough i have a sister who listen to that trash called pop, she plays it loud i can't stand it, so I tell her to turn that son of a motherf*cking man-whore, down for the love of God, trust me i live with a sister who likes and listens straight up to this sh*t, it motherf*cking sucks, glad i listen to metal, i wish it was like the 80s, where metal would make the list, Quiet Riot should've been no 1, but now what do you hear pop, i f*cking hate it, so next time you hear a pop band or anything similar remember these 5 word
THEY...
ARE...
NOTHING...
BUT...
TROUBLE...
U ppl r all f***ing losers who gives a flying f*** what u stupid motherf***ers like just because u like something doesnt mean anyone else doesnt ppl like who they like who the f*** r u pieces of sh** to say which bands suck and which ones dont. its all just personal opinion and the opinions suck u f***ing idiots!
I want their to be something called "Blackfest" where its nothing but black metal all day!!! Seriously, it would be a mainstage of Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Graveworm, Chthonic, Immortal, Mayhem, and Enslaved, and The second stage would be Illnath, Emperor, Dark Funeral, Carpathian Forest, Rotting Christ, Naglfar, and 1349, now THAT would be an awesome show!!!!
Good ol' Crawford...listen you had some good things to say until you started criticizing Ozzy and Metallica...about their collective older ages. Listen pal, one day you might be wearing depends too...it is called old age..and no one is exempt from it. Keep talking sh1t about it, and it is bound to come back on your yankee a$$ one day..hehe. Personally I hope I never have to wear depends..but we all get old..sucks..but it is inevitable.
Hey i know lets do ozzfest as a one day event, thats a good idea, what a better way to show our fans who have been waiting for months to have one show, i hope all music tour start on this hot trend, maybe mayhem could be one day too to rival ozzfest that would be just great.
What is the difference between grind core and black metal? music-wise.. I know grindcore is low deep growling...pounding drums.. - I have even attempted to listen to Cannibal Corpse, but I can't get into it. The weird thing is I like Six Feet Under - a lot.
The only black metal bands I have heard are Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth[barely even mentioning], Susperia, and Celtic Frost.. I liked DB, Susperia, and Celtic... I used to own a Celtic Frost album on cassette. I probably still have it.
Motorhead - Eat the Rich -
Im a upset that Ozzfest is going to be a one day only show out in Texas, but i do understand that Ozzy does need to take the summer off and just chill out with his family and friend and try to live some what normal life, he needs it. Im just hoping that Ozzfest 09 wont be a one day only show again...all the Ozzfest fans that cant make it the this years Ozzfest just cant handle that again...well i know i cant.

Ozzy, Metallica, The Sword, Rigor Mortis and Goatwhore = thumbs up. Shadows Fall also puts on a decent live show. I guess I will have to make the 12 mile drive to the show.
