Candlelight Records confirms June 25th as the North American release date for "Unnatural Selection," the new studio recording from Denver thrashers Havok.
The ten-song album was produced by David Sanchez with mixing handled by Terry Date (Pantera, Overkill, Deftones). "Unnatural Selection" features original artwork from Polish illustrator Rafal Wechterowicz (Slayer, Mastodon) and was mastered by James Murphy (Aborted, World Under Blood, Abigail Williams).
“Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death,” the first single from Unnatural Selection, will hit Loud Rock/Metal radio on May 27th.
“I am super pumped on how the drums came out,” chimes drummer Pete Webber. “We recorded the drums in a theater to get a huge sound. It was a challenging experience for me between time constraints and the drum parts having much more feeling in them. I believe the added pressure made for some really awesome stuff. I can't wait to unleash this album to the world.” More...

Denver thrashers Havok have premiered their latest video for the song “From The Cradle To The Grave," taken from the 2012 EP, "The Point Of No Return." Check out the clip below.
The video, directed by Roy Warner, was filmed on location in Detroit during the band’s final tour of 2012 alongside Skeletonwitch. The premiere coincides with the band’s continued work on an upcoming third full-length album.
Discussing the song’s lyrical inspiration, vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez says, “‘From The Cradle To The Grave’ is about America's first serial killer, H.H. Holmes. In the late 1800s, in Chicago, Holmes built a hotel specifically with murder in mind. It included doors that opened up to brick walls, staircases that lead to nowhere, and one-way rooms that once you entered, you never came out. He was a religious man and firmly believed that since he was born, the Devil was at his side. That being said, bang your head.” More...

Havok’s latest video has premiered today via Bloody Disgusting. “Point Of No Return” is the title track to the band’s EP, released last Spring as a tide-me-over while the band continued non-stop touring.
The video was directed by Roy Warner and filmed on location in Detroit, Michigan and can be viewed right here or in the player below.
Discussing the video, vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez elaborates, "The lyrics of ‘Point Of No Return’ are highly interpretable, but the message of the video pretty simple: The world as we know it is a delicate place and we have never had such a high capacity to destroy the human race as we do now. At some point, our self-made concoction of nuclear/biological weaponry, ancient superstitious beliefs, nationalism, corruption, ignorance, and conflicting ideologies is going to become lethal, on a global scale. We live in a time like no other and it’s obvious that if we don’t change our behavior, it’s only a matter of time before the world is extinguished at the hand of fanatics. It’s literally within everyone’s power to leave the world a little nicer than we found it. Don’t believe everything you’re told: Think for yourself.”
Director Roy Warner notes, “Working with the guys from Havok was great. They had awesome ideas to start out with and build from; wanting to showcase real life as the concept. It really illustrates the depths of human depravity in the past, present and what we can expect from the future if attitudes don’t change.” More...
The Barge To Hell is just days away from departure and final band announcements are being made. The cruise sets sail Monday, December 3rd, 2012 from Miami, FL to Nassau, Bahamas and returns on Friday, December 7th, 2012.
Just announced are Novembers Doom, Vital Remains, Brujeria and underground acts Abiotic, Zanthropya Ex, and Dark Sermon. The organizers also report that both the German and Canadian incarnations of Necronomicon will be in attendance.
With the announcement comes some bad news that Six Feet Under has had to cancel their appearance due to a scheduling conflict with their studio and needing to have their new album delivered in time.
You can still book a trip on the Barge To Hell.
The lineup is as follows: More...
The organizers of the Barge To Hell cruise have issued the following announcement about confirming Exodus, Seita, Havok, and Necronomicon:
"Let the world-wide EXODUS for BARGE TO HELL begin! Paying tribute to their global customer base, they've also added: SEITA from Brazil and The Netherlands, HAVOK from the USA, NECRONOMICON from Germany and HEADCRUSHER from Colombia!
"Barge To Hell's customer service team is working around the clock to get everything ready for those that are booked to perform online check-in. Booked passengers can expect to receive their online check-in invitation on Monday.
"The madness begins on December 3rd, when 40 of the most extreme Metal Bands and 2,000 headbangers from all over the world will go to the Caribbean to take over a luxury cruise ship for a 5 day and 4 night trip to the undead! See each of the 40 bands play two live shows on two different days. That's 80 shows with unrestricted festival access to the three stages, each with it's own unique atmosphere:
- The luxurious 'A Chorus Line' theater where they spare no expense to have the benches removed on the floor. Because at a Metal show, who actually wants assigned seating in front of the stage?
- The cozy 'Spectrum' that gives you the real club feeling.
- And their jewel: The open air stage on the pool deck. The biggest festival stage to sail the Oceans.
"You can also get all your memorabilia signed at the Meet & Greet sessions. Be part of their infamous Metal Karaoke and many other special activities with the Artists. And last, but not least: Don't forget that they have bars on board that never close! What are you waiting for? You might even need a vacation from this vacation when all is said and done."

There will be plenty of dates, pretty much covering the entire U.S. So there is no excuse to miss this shred fest! BE THERE OR BE 100% SQUARE.”

After Fear Factory just recently announced the band was dropping off the Shockwave Festival, which was set to kick off on July 6th, the organizers of the tour have now issued the following statement about the entire run being shut down:
“It is with great disappointment that we have to make this announcement. With the recent departure of Voivod from the Shockwave Festival lineup, as well as low advance tickets sales we have decided to pull the plug on the Shockwave Festival.
"For purchases made with a credit card, your card will automatically be refunded. All other refunds are available at point of purchase.
"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused."
Today the coordinators of Shockwave Festival Tour 2012 have announced four new dates in the inaugural North American takeover: Calgary, Amityville, Columbus, and Joliet. See the updated itinerary below. The following press release was also issued:

"Presented by Full Metal Jackie with further sponsorships by EVH, DDrums, Intune Guitar Pics, Indie Merch, Earsplit PR, Skateboard Marketing, Burning Angel, Yetibite, The PRP, Rockin Wellness, Dirtycheese Design & Development and Blank TV, the caravan of chaos will run through August. “That’s not the pass for tonight,” muttered the venue staffer checking IDs, wearing a dismissive expression suspiciously resembling a dildo. “I don’t know what to tell you.”
I’d just conducted interviews – coming soon – with guitarists Andreas Kisser (of Sepultura) and Moyses Kolesne (of Krisiun) backstage at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vermont. With no additional press to handle, Sepultura’s tour manager had scrapped the planned guest list, handing me instead a photo/access pass from a prior show. As this straightforward story was received with borderline indifference and a blasé shrug, I was pulled aside to allow lucky ticketholders entry. There I stood waiting under the gatekeepers’ stone cold gazes, like a failed freeloader – the lowest form of tool at a concert. More...

Jesse De Los Santos and Pete Webber of the thrash metal band Havok talked to ArmyOfOneTV right after their show at Bogie's in Albany, NY this past April 26th. On this interview they discussed the current activities of the band and also their upcoming EP called "Point of No Return" that will be launched next May 22nd. Havok is currently on Sepultura's North American Kairos Tour, and recently covered the Sepultura tune "Arise."
Today the metal-loving web moguls at MetalSucks premiere Havok's rendition of “Arise” by Sepultura. The tune comes off the band’s forthcoming new EP titled "Point Of No Return" (reviewed here).
Set for release on May 22nd in North America, the EP was recorded by the band with final touches by James Murphy (Death, Testament) and contains two new thrash hymns and two cover tracks: the aforementioned Sepultura cover and a Havokeded version of Slayer’s “Postmortem/Raining Blood.”
On March 16th, 2012, Motorbreath Entertainment intended to create one of the best lineups featuring bands from the “New Wave of Thrash Metal.” Exmortus, Bonded By Blood, Havok, Speedwolf and Witchaven were on the bill to play Betsy’s Bar at Austin’s annual South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival. Oregon’s Spellcaster offered a style more in line with the New Wave of Classic Metal scene that has, in a sense, run parallel with the new thrash movement.
Besides Corrosion of Conformity who came to town with their crossover thrash, “Animosity” lineup, thrash metal is an endangered species in Austin during this time of the year. When I saw Motorbreath had organized a lineup of such great, young thrash bands, I had to help with promotion. Unfortunately, a number of mishaps led to Betsy’s Bar canceling the show. However, thanks to Alex Campos of local metal marauders, Beyond The Blood, the show went on! More...
The Denver thrash assault Havok kicked off a run of dates with Sepultura, Death Angel, and Krisiun in Santa Ana, California last night. The North American Kairos Tour 2012 will make its way through nearly three weeks worth of shows, coming to a close in New York City on April 30th.
Comments vocalist/guitarist David Sanchez: “We're hitting the road with Sepultura - Holy shit!! It's a dream come true. This tour is going to be absolutely insane. All the bands totally rule and we're expecting to see some rowdy crowds. Prepare to have a sore neck and remember, no karate in the pit!”
Adds drummer Pete Webber: “I can't wait to start the upcoming tour with Sepultura, Death Angel and Krisiun! Sepultura was one of my very first influences in metal and in drumming! Catch HAVOK destroying a club near you!”
In the meantime, check out footage of the road dogs’ fiery performance in Puerto Rico late last month below.
Upon returning, Havok will unleash a new EP titled "Point Of No Return." Set for release on May 22nd in North America, the EP was recorded by the band with final touches by James Murphy (Death, Testament) and contains two new songs plus two Havok-ized cover tunes. The "Point Of No Return" precedes the band’s first European adventure beginning early May with Goatwhore, Angelus Apatrida and headliners 3 Inches of Blood.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Point Of No Return
2. From The Cradle To The Grave
3. Arise (Sepultura cover)
4. Post Mortem/Raining Blood (Slayer cover)
5. Covering Fire (video)
6. D.O.A. (video) More...

We are gonna share the stage with our fellow countrymen, the almighty Sepultura, for the first time, plus fucking Death Angel and Havok. Metal Underground previously reported the cancellation of Motorbreath's SXSW show featuring artists such as Havok, Bonded By Blood and Spellcaster. We contacted Motorbreath owner and show booker, Tristan Spears to get his side of the story. Now, in all fairness, we bring our readers the other side of the story told by a representative of Betsy's Bar. More...
Motorbreath Entertainment's SXSW Showcase contained a tremendous bill of new school thrash and heavy metal artists such as Bonded By Blood, Havok, Speedwolf, Exmortus, Witchaven and Spellcaster. The stellar lineup was the only old school-metal oriented event at SXSW, which was cause for Metal Underground to sponsor the event. Unfortunately, the March 16th show at Betsy's came to a abrupt and disappointing end. After the first three bands performed, Motorbreath founder, Tristan Spears announced that if more people didn't drink more alcohol, the show would be canceled. After much deliberation, the show was indeed canceled.
Spears provided Metal Underground with the following statement: More...
