As I Lay Dying Premiere New Single & Music Video

As I Lay Dying have officially entered a new era with the release of their comeback single, “Echoes.” The track arrives in the wake of yet another turbulent chapter for the Californian metalcore outfit — and particularly for their controversial frontman, Tim Lambesis.

Last November saw the band’s lineup collapse for a second time, with former members citing Lambesis’ behavior as the catalyst behind their departure. Undeterred by the allegations and upheaval, Lambesis pledged to rebuild As I Lay Dying once again, with “Echoes” serving as the first glimpse of that renewed effort. This single arrives independently via the band, emerging a few weeks ahead of their live return, which will commence towards the end of this month in Moscow, Russia.

According to the songwriting credits, the latest roster of musicians who joined Lambesis in the studio to bring this song to life includes: More...

Former Vital Remains Vocalist Jake Raymond Dead

Ex-Vital Remains live vocalist Jake Raymond has died. As also mentioned by the group’s guitarist Tony Lazaro below, both former vocalists Scott Wily and Chris Ross both passed last year:

“I found out late yesterday some very sad news that a old friend and Vital Remains singer passed away. His name was Jake Raymond, and he was a good friend! Some of you might remember Jake was VR’s vocalist back in 2001 before we recorded Dechristianize album. He really loved the band and always held us in high regard.

Even though i hadn’t spoken or seen Jake in a few years i always hope things were going good for him. I remember the last time i saw him he came out to one of our local shows in Providence and we had fun catching up and talking about the good old days! We laughed alot that night and i remember he started helping me sell merch and asked if i needed any help?

You were always trying to help bro and i wish i could have helped you bro. Thank you for that and everything else you did for me!! I will always remember the good times we had brother! This is really so sad. I’m sick of losing so many friends this year. This makes three Vital Remains singers that passed in the last year.

Three brothers i will not forget! Thank you Jake for your friendship and all your help when i needed it! Thank you for all your work with the band!! I wish i could have been there for you more brother, but we kind of took different paths. I hope you are at peace now. Rest easy brother and until we meet again. My Deepest condolences to his family and friends. RIP Jake“

Sunday Old School: Vital Remains

Ordinarily, when a news story provides the inspiration to choose which band will be featured in the Sunday Old School column, it's because the group has split, reformed or a member has passed away. However, this week, the choice was made when a police officer in Florida was fired for joining a well known death metal band on stage and singing along to their song, "Let the Killing Begin." The quartet in question hails from Providence, Rhode Island and goes by the name of Vital Remains.

The group was forged in 1988 by guitarist, Paul Flynn, who was soon joined in his endeavour by guitarist Butch Machado, vocalist Mike Flynn, bassist Tom Supkow, and drummer Chris Dupont. Mike Flynn and Butch Machado did not last long however, as Vital Remains decided they needed better musicians and replaced the duo with Jeff Gruslin and Tony Lazaro respectively. Spurred on by the writing partnership of the two guitar players, the group became one of the most popular live acts in their local scene and after recording two demos, "Reduced to Ashes" and "Excruciating Pain," they caught the attention of French label, Thrash Records, who signed them up. Texas Independence Fest Day 2: Whitechapel

Deathcore was the chosen style of music for day two of Texas Independence Fest in Austin, Texas. Whitechapel headlined and Oceano and Boris The Blade were two of the bands providing support. All those bands played the main stage, the Garage Stage. Before getting into this this stage, I would like to look at some of the small stage, Control Room Stage. Metalcore seems to be alive and well in Temple, Texas, a town located an hour north of Austin. Insonomist out of Temple played yesterday’s show and In The Trench played today. Vocalist Steven Harding’s refrain was infectious and the band got the small crowd in motion. More...
