Boris Announces Tour With Melvins
Experimental rock/metal legends Boris has announced that on August 18th, they will be re-releasing their cult album, "Heavy Rocks." In celebration of this, the group will be returning to the United States for a co-headlining tour with sludge/alternative metal pioneers (the) Melvins. Both bands will be performing full sets from landmark albums. Boris will be performing the aforementioned, "Heavy Rocks," while Melvins will be performing their 1991 staple, "Bullhead."
“40 years as the Melvins!!! What better way to celebrate that unlikely milestone than by setting off on the ‘Twins of Evil Tour’ with our friends, Boris,” Buzz Osborne shares of a set that will see the iconic band perform the beloved Bullhead album in its entirety, as well as additional tracks across their discography. “This will be a stone groove!”
Boris’ Takeshi adds: “Could anyone have predicted such an astonishing event, that Boris and the Melvins would tour the entire USA together? Since the mid-1980s, the Melvins have had an enormous influence on artists of all genres not only limited to heavy music, and have brought forth a surge of faithful followers over the years. Needless to say, Boris is just one of these many bands influenced by the mighty Melvins, and we took our name from a song title off of the 1991 album, Bullhead.”

Desertfest London 2023: Day 3
The most bittersweet thing in music is the last day of a festival. After two days of awesome music, you know that the time is nearly over, yet there's still one more chance to witness more bands, hear more tunes and bang your head. The first two days of Desertfest had showcased some real legends, as well as promising up and comers and cult favourites. Sunday would once again offer all three, with the added bonus of The Roundhouse coming into the picture.
Whereas last year, I spent the entire Sunday in the Roundhouse, partly due to it being out of the way of the other venues and also because it had an incredible lineup, this time I made a point of swinging by the Underworld first. The reason was simple; Greek metal bands always deliver. Today saw the venue opened by Athens doom outfit Acid Mammoth, making their Desertfest London debut (they had previously performed at Desertfest Antwerp,) and the Hellenic quartet proved to be absolutely phenomenal, delivering world class doom metal from start to finish.
The band opened their set with a new song, which from my upside down view of the setlist appeared to be named "Fuzz Orgasm," before performing material from all three of their albums, including "Jack The Riffer," "Tree Of Woe" and "Them!" from the "Under Acid Hoof Record." There was even room for some audience participation as a crowd member imitated the evil laughter from the "Berserker" intro, leading the band to use him to get the song going, before ending the set with "They Live" from their eponymous debut. This was a brilliant way to kick things off and Acid Mammoth may even have been the band of the day. Superb. More...
Boris and Uniform Unite For New Single

Boris and Uniform have teamed up to create a new collaborative outing by the name of "Bright New Disease." The highly anticipated effort is scheduled to drop on June 16th via Sacred Bones. Prior to the album's release, the opening track "You Are The Beginning" is being released as a teaser. This particular song was the very first track that the two groups crafted together when they first hit the studio in July of 2020.
Michael Berdan, who is the vocalist and programmer for Uniform, shared his thoughts on this partnership, stating: More...

Desertfest New York Announces 8 More Bands
The organisers of Desertfest New York have revealed a further eight names to take part in this year's event, which will take place from September 14th - 16th.
Heavy-rock legends Monster Magnet make their headline return to the event, following their unfortunate 2022 cancellation. British industrial icons Godflesh joins proceedings for a rare New York performance.
Desert-hero Brant Bjork rolls into the weekend to bring the very best in sun-soaked California stoner vibes. Whilst German sludge-punk duo Mantar will offer up an ear-shattering live performance with their first New York appearance since 2016.
Elsewhere, the festival also welcomes the groove of Valley of the Sun, genre-bending storytellers Huntsmen, psychedelic locals Upper Wilds & U.K. based stoner rock outfit Dunes to the bill.
With more to be announced, including day splits & day tickets in early June, Desertfest is the biggest celebration of underground heavy music that the East-Coast has to offer. 3-day passes (incl. Saint Vitus pre-party) are sold out with limited 2-Day passes available here.

Post. Festival 2022 Lineup Announced
Post. Festival is back with a grander scope and eyes set on establishing the finest assemblage of niche rock artists to take place on American soil. Following the examples set by like-minded European events, the Post. Festival is as much about community and respect and support as it is about music and culture. It is a celebration both for fans and artists, an opportunity to come together and revel in a scene that has built itself from within to the point of global presence, without the aid of commercial status. Some of the most exceptional and creative musicians work within the realms of “post”-adjacent genres, and it is this festival’s goal to bring as many of them as possible together for one weekend to give them the opportunity to show out and share their work with a wildly dedicated fan base.
This year’s line-up includes: BORIS, PELICAN, NOTHING, PIANOS BECOME THE TEETH, JUNIUS, ARMS AND SLEEPERS, COASTLANDS, I HEAR SIRENS, FACS, GLASSING, PILLARS, FRAYLE, COLIN PHILS, GLACIER, BRAVE ARROWS, BLACK FLAK AND THE NIGHTMARE FIGHTERS, & ONUS.
Post. Festival Day 1 will begin at 5pm on Friday, September 9, and Day 2 will begin at 3pm on Saturday, Sept. 10. More...

Boris And Merzbow Releasing Collaborative Album
Renowned Japanese innovators Boris and Merzbow have teamed up with Relapse for their new collaborative 2xCD/4xLP "Gensho."
Named after the Japanese word for phenomenon, "Gensho" is a unique release featuring over one-hundred-and-fifty minutes of new music spread across two CDs and four LPs (available as two separate double LP sets or a deluxe 4xLP edition).
The Boris songs are percussion-less reinventions of classic tracks from the band's storied catalog, while Merzbow's tracks are entirely new compositions. The two sets are intended to be played at the same time at varying volumes so that the listener can experience their own "gensho/phenomenon" every time. The artists also commented, "of course you can enjoy both albums as a separate work."
The droning experimentation of "Gensho" is due out worldwide this coming March 18th via Relapse Records. More...

Fun Fun Fun Fest 2011, Part 2
November 5th, 2011—Day two of Fun Fun Fun Fest exemplified Texas’ extreme weather conditions. Rare rains are great for picnics, but eventually raise havoc on the land. The hottest summer in the recorded history of the United States revealed an Auditorium Shores that resembled a Western ghost town rather than the green knolls of a public park.
Dust masks and bandanas veiled the features of the day’s attendees, giving the festival an appearance part Old West and part zombie-virus film. Those in attendance deserve credit for braving such abhorrent conditions. Weather conditions are beyond the control of Fun Fun Fun’s staff, although I can’t help but think something could have been done to curb the dust problem. No matter who was to blame for Friday’s short Misfit’s set, no controversies marred Saturday’s festivities.
A death metal bludgeoning assaulted my ears upon entering the venue. I asked myself, “Why would a comedy stage play host to a death/grind band?” I peeked around the corner to see this group was Captured By Robots. The one-man-several-robots group was part Mystery Science Theater 3K and part Gwar. Eyeballs and intestines protruded from front man JBOT, who carried on silly conversations with jean-jacket clad, double-necked guitar playing robot GTRBOT666. An ensemble of a disembodied, dreadlocked drummer, DRMBOT 0110 with a macabre brass section and “Monkey Shines” percussion kicked out a hilarious mix of punk, metal, grind, Dubstep and pop covers. Two of the more memorable songs include Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” and Buster Poindexter’s “Hot Hot Hot.” More...
