Melvins & Napalm Death Announce Collaboration

The Melvins and Napalm Death join forces for Savage Imperial Death March (April 10, Ipecac Recordings), a true collaboration - not a split, but a new album featuring members of both bands. The album shares its name with the bands’ Savage Imperial Death March tours from 2016 and 2025, but marks their first full-length studio collaboration under the moniker. Yesterday, the first track from the album, "Tossing Coins Into The Fountain Of Fuck," premiered with Jose Mangin on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal.

The album was recorded at the Melvins’ Los Angeles studio, with Buzz Osborne (vocals/guitar) and Dale Crover (drums) joined by Napalm Death’s Barney Greenway (vocals), Shane Embury (bass), and John Cooke (guitar).

"I have loved the Melvins forever and their outlook on music," Embury explains. "A chance to make an album of eclectic musical madness with them was truly an honour and a whole lot of fun, which surely is the whole point! Let’s do another one soon." More...

Napalm Death To Tour The U.S. With Melvins

Napalm Death and the Melvins trek across the U.S. this Spring, joining forces for the next chapter of their legendary "Savage Imperial Death March" tour.

The iconic bands first teamed up in 2016 for a six-week tour. The Melvins brought their unparalleled mix of punk and metal, while Napalm Death delivered their signature ferocious grindcore, delivering an unforgettable experience for fans of intense, boundary-pushing music.

"Napalm Death! Melvins! What a dream! Not only are we looking forward to being on the road with our friends in Napalm Death, but we’re excited to have both Dale and Coady both on drums once again," Buzz Osborne shares, noting that this is the return of Dale Crover behind the kit following a medical emergency in 2023, and the first time Coady Willis will perform in tandem with Crover since 2016.

Melvins Make Mayhem At The Electric Ballroom

With Desertfest not long finished and Download right around the corner, rock and metal fans across the United Kingdom were buzzing with the amount of live music they could experience. One needn't go to a festival to see live music though, as on the 6th of June, a band with one of the biggest cult followings for forty years were preparing to rock north London. In other words... the Melvins were back in town.

Many fans and journalists alike like getting to a show early and checking out the support act, even if we know nothing about them. You never know when you'll see future stars or your new favourite band, but going in blind can also have the reverse effect. Supporting the Melvins tonight before heading to Download a few days later was Taipei Houston, two brothers from San Francisco, California. They clearly have a good knowledge of their instruments and seem like nice enough guys, but honestly, the music itself was extraordinarily bland with some truly obnoxious vocals. The duo offered nothing exciting and would fit in more alongside the likes of The Pigeon Detectives or The Ordinary Boys than they would at any show even remotely heavy. I honestly don't like giving negative reports, because I know how much time can go into song writing and how daunting it can be to go on stage, but I honestly can't remember the last time I actively disliked what I was watching on stage so much. Boris Announces Tour With Melvins

Experimental rock/metal legends Boris has announced that on August 18th, they will be re-releasing their cult album, "Heavy Rocks." In celebration of this, the group will be returning to the United States for a co-headlining tour with sludge/alternative metal pioneers (the) Melvins. Both bands will be performing full sets from landmark albums. Boris will be performing the aforementioned, "Heavy Rocks," while Melvins will be performing their 1991 staple, "Bullhead."

“40 years as the Melvins!!! What better way to celebrate that unlikely milestone than by setting off on the ‘Twins of Evil Tour’ with our friends, Boris,” Buzz Osborne shares of a set that will see the iconic band perform the beloved Bullhead album in its entirety, as well as additional tracks across their discography. “This will be a stone groove!”

Boris’ Takeshi adds: “Could anyone have predicted such an astonishing event, that Boris and the Melvins would tour the entire USA together? Since the mid-1980s, the Melvins have had an enormous influence on artists of all genres not only limited to heavy music, and have brought forth a surge of faithful followers over the years. Needless to say, Boris is just one of these many bands influenced by the mighty Melvins, and we took our name from a song title off of the 1991 album, Bullhead.”

The organisers of Desertfest New York have revealed a further eight names to take part in this year's event, which will take place from September 14th - 16th.

Heavy-rock legends Monster Magnet make their headline return to the event, following their unfortunate 2022 cancellation. British industrial icons Godflesh joins proceedings for a rare New York performance.

Elsewhere, the festival also welcomes the groove of Valley of the Sun, genre-bending storytellers Huntsmen, psychedelic locals Upper Wilds & U.K. based stoner rock outfit Dunes to the bill.

With more to be announced, including day splits & day tickets in early June, Desertfest is the biggest celebration of underground heavy music that the East-Coast has to offer. 3-day passes (incl. Saint Vitus pre-party) are sold out with limited 2-Day passes available here.

Out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of the band, fans and venue staff, Ministry’s upcoming tour – scheduled to kick off in October – has been moved to March and April 2022.

The Melvins and Corrosion of Conformity will now appear on all show dates as the tour’s special guests.

Napalm Death Announces Tour With The Melvins

So this is an odd and interesting pairing: Napalm Death and the Melvins join forces for the Savage Imperial Death March Tour, a six-week spring trek that that kicks off on March 26th at The Marquee in Phoenix, Ariz.

“We have been talking about doing a tour like this for a long time so we are thrilled it’s finally happening,” says Napalm Death bass player Shane Embury. “Having been long time fans and friends of the Melvins we are very happy to be embarking on this six-week tour of musical madness with them and Melt Banana. Expect the unexpected!”

Melvins’ singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne added: “Napalm Death sounds like a gorilla on LSD firing a machine gun… and I mean that in a good way. We’re happy to be heading out with the ultimate grindcore pioneers.”

This isn’t the first time the two bands have collaborated. In 2004, Buzz Osborne, Shane Embury and Danny Herrera played together in Venomous Concept.

The Melvins also released "Across The USA in 51 Days: The Movie!" on Friday. The DVD release, filmed by the band and crew during a 2012 attempt to break the record for the fastest tour of the United States (plus DC), dedicates one minute to each state (and district). More...

First Episode Of NOLA Metal Documentary Posted

Today Noisey, the music arm of Vice, is proud to present episode 1 of "NOLA: Life, Death And Heavy Blues From The Bayou."

A seven-part series examining the people and the culture that helped foster bands like Down, Eyehategod, Crowbar, and so many others, episode 1 features New Orleans native Phil Anselmo who exports his style to Dallas band Pantera, thereby changing the landscape for metal in the '90s.

Meanwhile, a visit from the Melvins to the New Orleans area would alter music as we know it, while Kirk Windstein of the band Shell Shock was discovering that slower was, for him, indeed heavier. More...

Satyricon Drops Off Housecore Horror Film Festival

We regret to inform everyone that Norwegian black metal legends Satryicon will no longer be able to perform at this year's Housecore™ Horror Film Festival. The band explained via its official Facebook page:

"Dear U.S fans. We regret to inform that Satyricon will not perform at Knotfest in San Bernardino, CA and Horror Fest in Austin, TX in October 2014. The reasons for not being able to perform at these two festivals are both pragmatic ones and entirely different from each other.

"Satyricon will now shift its attention towards the writing of a new album, re-editing the footage from the 'Live at the Opera' live album/DVD and another project that will be announced at a later stage. It is important for the band that the U.S fans understand that you are far from forgotten and that the band look forward to come over for a full scale U.S tour as soon as it is possible. You deserve it." More...

Housecore Sucessfully Blends Horror and Metal

Housecore Horror Film and Heavy metal festival masterminds, Corey Mitchell and Philip H. Anselmo brought Austin, Texas a rare entertainment opportunity, packaged in human flesh, marred by celluloid cigarette burns--a four-day, multi-stage, multi-tent, multi-everything horror-movie festival. Industry people arrived from all around the world to help support this lofty endeavor.

The gorier the better as many of the major stars of the film portion of the festival had participated in legendary blood spillers such as the "Nekromantik" film series (Director Jörg Buttgereit ), "Coffin Joe" (Director José Mojica Marins ) and "Friday the 13th." Ari Lehman made film history when Jason Voorhees finally sprung to life after the murder of his mother. Lehman attended the festival not only as a film celebrity, but as a musician. Nefarious of Macabre joined Lehman on stage in his First Jason band to perform campy horror metal songs about that guy in the hockey mask. More...

Sunday Old School: Melvins

Thriftway is a small grocery store chain here in Washington, one I stop at a couple of times a week for laundry soap or soda. Whenever I'm in the store I can't help but remember that this is where the Melvins got its start. Back in the early eighties, three teens from Montesano High School worked at a Thriftway store over in Greys Harbor County, WA. They despised their shift supervisor, whose name was Melvin. They even named their garage band after him, cranking out the slowest and most wretched riffs to ever hit the alternative rock/early indie metal scene. More...
