Background
Metallica was first formed by Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, and future Megadeth member Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney. They first played in L.A., but later found themselves at home playing in the San Francisco Bay area. The band later replaced Ron with Cliff Burton and Dave with Kirk Hammet as late as 1983.
On September 27, 1986, on the European leg of the Master of Puppets tour, Cliff Burton was killed in a bus accident in Sweden en route to their next show's location. Tragic as this event was, Metallica continued on and Cliff was replaced by Jason Newsted, who remained part of the band until 2001, when he finally annouced he would leave Metallica because of the damage he had done to his body touring and headbanging for fourteen years.
More than any other band, Metallica and their albums have been the yardstick with which to measure other heavy metal releases. Metallica practically defines "heavy metal" as a sub-genre of metal itself, although their music ranges from NWOBHM to Thrash in their earlier days. However, in the 1990s and beyond 2000, Metallica evolved a more mainstream sound, which helped them become a household name and the seventh biggest selling act in history.

More Details On "Guitar Hero: Metallica" Revealed
Billboard.com reports: Several new gameplay twists emerge for the first time on "Guitar Hero: Metallica," which arrives in stores March 29 from Activision.
As previously reported, players have a double bass option on drums for the difficult and expert levels, which can be enabled by using a splitter and an additional pedal for the kick drum. In addition, all of the songs will be "unlocked" from the beginning of the game as opposed to them not being available until players reach certain levels, as in previous versions of "Guitar Hero."
"It was time to change it up a bit," Neversoft lead designer Alan Flores says. "Guitar Hero: Metallica" will be available for Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2. Aerosmith was the first artist to star in its own version of the game, which was released last summer.
This time around, in Career Mode, instead of taking players through the band's career chronologically like in "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith," gamers take on the role of a band that rocks its way onto a Metallica tour as the opening act, a premise based on a true story as relayed by frontman James Hetfield.

Guitar Hero: Metallica w/ Bonus Drum Pedal
Joystiq.com reports that Gamestop pre-orders of Guitar Hero: Metallica will come with a bonus drum pedal and input splitter. Their announcement was pretty entertaining though:
"There's a thick cloud of fear hanging over fans of faux-drumming in games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour -- fear inspired by the near-impossible rhythms which will need to be kept when Guitar Hero: Metallica hits store shelves. We're not sure how familiar you guys are with the speed with which Mr. Ulrich is capable of producing percussion, but we assure you, his work will be most unpleasant to attempt to mimic.
"Thankfully, an uncharacteristically useful pre-order bonus from GameStop will give the game's quick-to-act reservers an extra bass drum pedal and input splitter. This will allow the player to use both pedals to tackle the game's more heel-punishing tracks. It's certainly a better option than splitting your foot down the middle, and training yourself to control both halves independently, which, now that we think about it, would be pretty rock-and-roll."

Metallica To Tour With Guns N Roses?
According to Contactmusic.com, METALLICA would consider a rock supertour with GUNS N' ROSES - after hailing the group's comeback album "Chinese Democracy."
The "Enter Sandman" hitmakers are big fans of their rock counterparts, who they rose to fame alongside in the 1980s.
And drummer Lars Ulrich admits he would jump at the chance to tour alongside Axl Rose's legendary group. He says, "We're road dogs. We love to tour. So we'd never say no. We've learned never to say no to anything, and all four of us love 'Chinese Democracy'."
But guitarist Kirk Hammett admits he doesn't see the rockers making an offer in the near future, adding: "The real question is whether they would tour with us."

Metallica To Be Inducted Into RnR Hall of Fame
Metallica has reacted to their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction with a message on their site:
"Wow... what a great way to start off 2009! We are beyond proud to let you know that we will indeed be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in a ceremony held in Cleveland (Ohio) on April 4th, 2009. As a refresher, it has to have been 25 years since your first record was released to be eligible and while it certainly doesn't feel like it's been that long, we hear that's the case!
"So here's the other cool part. For the first time in the 24 years that the Hall Of Fame has been around, tickets to the ceremony will be available to YOU! The induction ceremony will be held at Public Hall in Cleveland, and if you're a member of the Hall Of Fame and Museum, you can buy tickets in a pre-sale on January 22nd and 23rd. There is a walk-up sale on Saturday, January 24 (that means you have to find your way to the box office at the Hall Of Fame that day), and finally they will be available through all Ticketmaster outlets starting on Monday, January 26th. Met Club members should check www.metclub.com for info about a special ticket sale for them. More...
