Yeah, interesting concept. But I only needed to see it once. So much reading while listening to a song on a music video kinda defeats the purpose. I only realized what I was listening to a couple times during the video. And since I think it's the best song off the whole album, that was a little disapointing.

To comment that the video has nothing to do with the song is both madness and idiotic. Since when was zombie apocolypse/nuclear fallout a walk in the park and not a nightmare? Further more, the lyrics 'Cause we hunt you down without mercy /Hunt you down all nightmare long / Feel us breathe upon your face / Feel us shift, every move we trace / Hunt you down without mercy / Hunt you down all nightmare long, yeah / Luck. Runs. Out' can very much be interpretated as the Zombies wrath of destruction of the living (Which is very much known to all).
I actually wonder how many people can see the artistic meaning behind it, before they cast judgement or do folks use that tainted view of Metallica to ridicule everything they do?

I doubt Metallica actually sat down and said, "let's write a song about soviets, aliens, and zombies" so do forgive me wolfius if I don't completely agree.
Even if all the other lyrics can sorta be interpreted as going along with the video, the lines:
Then you crawl back in
Into your obsession
Never to return
This is your confession
would suggest the song has a personal meaning, so the vid does NOT really have anything to do with the song.
Personally though, I liked the vid a little bit, and I do enjoy the song alot. I'm not bashing metallica for the video at all, just pointing out a fallacy in an argument. it's not even abig deal. I really cant think of ANY music videos in Metal that have ANYTHING to do with the songs off the top of my head, except for System of a Down's vids, so I could really care less if this fit the song perfectly or not. Good song, kinda ok video, that's all that matters to me at this point. :p

i thought the video was visionary and very interesting, but i hated the fact i had to read through it as i missed half of the video due to reading....i cant stand metallica, but i watched it and thought very intereresting, except for having to read through it....

I liked the video...finally something original...watching a band play a song on a roof, or in a warehouse, or in the woods/desert/swamp/where ever, has been far too many times.
I think the video is about the evils of socialism/communism, if you read all of the subtitles, the scientists/narrator are talking about 'their revolution', how the spore 'belongs to the people', 'new world' of 'cooperation' and the most telling line "Such a gift this spore. Able to sacrifice itself for the needs of others". Initially meant to benefit the 'greater good' it (socialism) eventually turns people into zombies, and ultimately, death.

Im sure we all could see the political views behind it. Which to honest are a bit dated. I saw it as more reminescent to the cold war fear films alot of us grew up with. More of a satire of that genre than a political statement. But who doesnt enjoy a good zombie apocolypse?

Why is that..whenever a band goes on hiatus then comes back with a new album..they always get dissed? I'm 16 and have some good stuff from Metallica..they do kick ass. I have yet to hear all the sutff from Death Magnetic but what I have heard is great..the guitar solos on Day That Never Comes just plainly kick ass..to all you others who diss bands like this..go rot ^-^..Metallica has paved the way for heavy metal and hard rock bands to follow

One thing i noticed about you metal fans is that you are all a bunch of cry baby, over analyzing nerds.....i mean can you get any more nerdy....why do you guys analyze so f***ing much? Take it for what it is....i think the only nerdier fanatics out there beside metal fans are star trek and star war fans. You guys are a bunch of nerds. You guys sounds ridiculous. Its a f***ing music video for christ sakes! I for one love the video. Take it for what it is you f***ing dorks!! One thing i do know though...there is absolutely nothing metallica can do to please absolutely everyone....there is always going to be that group of dorkstick nerds sitting in the back over-analyzing sh**.

No, no, Androphobic. We need to just take what Metallica gives us and not try to analyze it at all. Remember they are the coolest band ever. I mean just look at the pics of them with cigars and sunglasses.
Oh wait, we arent mindless androids who eat whatever crap we are spoonfed. Sorry, forgot.
