Candlemass Reveals New Album Details

Candlemass have come full circle: their first singer Johan Langquist (who left the band after singing on the legendary 1986 debut Epicus Doomicus Metallicus) has returned!

Now, the epic doom metal veterans announce their 12th full length album "The Door To Doom," which will be released on February 22nd through Napalm Records.

The Door To Doom unsurprisingly follows the plotline mastermind, songwriter and bass player Leif Edling established in the past years: epic world class doom metal that relies on slow mammoth riffing. With Johan Langquist`s highly dramatic vocal style and the love for details, the band made this album to the next “Epicus”. This masterpiece is rounded off by a beautiful guest appearance by none other than Black Sabbath`s Tony Iommi on ‘Astorolus – The Great Octopus‘.

Tony Iommi on his appearance: "Candlemass are a major force in Scandinavian heavy rock and have always acknowledged the influence we had on their music. They asked if I’d contribute to a track which sounded pretty good so I thought ‘why not?’."

Leif Edling states: "We feel very honoured that Tony Iommi said yes to play the solo on 'Astrolus.' The song was sent to the management and amazingly enough, the master agreed to let his mighty SG sing on the track! For me personally this is a dream come true. Tony Iommi has always been my hero and guiding light when it comes to heavy music, so to hear that he likes the song and also would like to play on it, gave me chills down the spine! I'm still in shock! But kudos to him to be so cool to even listen to it. Hats off! Tony Iommi is and will always be God!" More...

This song is representative of our new album (also entitled Humans Are Broken) in many ways, the mix of brutality, melody and different genres music-wise, and the engagement with issues in contemporary society lyric-wise. The video functions as a visual counterpart to our reflection on who we are as humans, how we interact with each other and our place in this world. We are very happy with how this video turned out and hope you guys enjoy watching it as much as we did making it." More...

Nightrage Posts New Single Online

Greek/Swedish extreme metal band Nightrage has posted their new single, "By Darkness Drawn" online for streaming. You can check it out below. Speaking about the song, the band stated:

"With ‘By Darkness Drawn’ we wanted to combine our trademark NR guitar melodies with a straightforward thrash metal drive clashing straight into groovy yet hooking chorus. A straightforward Nightrage song so to say. And that is what we think “By Darkness Drawn” is! A kick ass thrasher!

"The lyrics for this song pretty much sums up the concept and theme of the album and it handles the fact we are all doomed and we know it. Unable to learn from our mistakes we are all now standing at the edge of our abyss, paralyzed by fear of our inevitable leap towards our own extinction. The lyrics on the previous album was all about our journey towards our end. This song is about being there right now, and just having to accept that as a fact!" More...

Arch Enemy Posts New Music Video Online

Swedish death metal outfit Arch Enemy has posted a new music video online for the song, "Reason To Believe." You can check it out below. The song is available now through Century Media Records as a limited 7 inch vinyl and digital single.

Guitarist and founding member Michael Amott comments on the motivation behind writing "Reason To Believe": "Growing up, I guess I was what would be considered the “different kid”, the odd one out at school etc. I fled into my own shell and the music that I loved. Not having a lot friends and not being popular made me who I am today. My passion for music is really where I found my identity and also the strength to pull through those not always so easy times as a young teenager. Luckily, I was always obsessed with music, I had a lot of ideas for starting a band even before I hit puberty! When I finally saved up enough money to buy my first guitar at the age of thirteen I started creating my own songs immediately and started my first band soon thereafter. I haven’t stopped since. Music has been with me every step of the way through life and is still, to this day, my best friend and greatest passion. I’m sure a lot of people out there feel the same way. 'Reason To Believe' is a song that was born out of reminiscing about my own youth and also the stories from our fans around the world. This one’s for you... Always keep on fighting my friends!" Interview

Uriah Heep Guitarist Still "Living The Dream"

What can be said about Uriah Heep? After nearly fifty years, the band led by guitarist Mick Box is still going strong, regularly releasing new material and performing to fan all across the globe. This September they released their twenty fifth studio album, "Living The Dream" and it appears the group is still doing just that. With a solid new album and an upcoming tour in North America with fellow legends Judas Priest, there's a lot to be excited about for fans of Uriah Heep and indeed the band themselves.

I had the pleasure of asking the influential guitarist some questions about the album, the band's legacy and future and much more this week, as you can see below.

Diamond Oz: Your new album, "Living The Dream" was released this year. What would you say separates it from its predecessor, "Outsider" and how does it fit in with the rest of your extensive catalogue?

Mick Box: It is a natural extension of our ‘Outsider,’ album but with Jay Ruston as our producer and the luxury of some pre-production time, we felt we had delivered something special for the fans.

Oz: I really like the artwork for the record. It's simple but beautiful. Could you tell us a little bit about it?

Mick: It is a simplistic idea that lets everyone know that dreams are possible and to never stop dreaming, as that is what makes the world go around.

Children Of Bodom Posts New Music Video Online

Finland's melodic death superstars Children Of Bodom are proud to the announce the release of their tenth album, Hexed, on March 8, 2019 via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band reveals the official music video for "Under Grass And Clover" which can be seen below.

COB frontman, guitarist, and mastermind Alexi Laiho comments: "'Under Grass and Clover' is the sound of COB on fire and has been my favorite song since it was written. It’s fast, melodic, heavy and dark but also short and sweet. Someone told me that it’s kinda like old school Dimmu Borgir and AWKand that’s pretty damn cool in my books so we must’ve done something right."

Hexed saw the return to Finland’s Danger Johnny Studios where they were reunited with Mikko Karmila (I Worship Chaos, Halo Of Blood, Hatebreeder, Follow the Reaper & Hate Crew Deathroll) who recorded everything except keyboards and also produced the album with the band. Janne Wirman recorded keyboards at Beyond Abilities Studios. The album was mixed and mastered at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland.

For this album, the band enlisted Deins Forkas to create the album artwork. Bassist Henkka Blacksmith commented on the cover, “For some years already I have wanted to try a different approach with our cover art. We are so used to digital art so that is really hard to do something else. Doing it all the way with computer is somewhat safe and convenient. This time we all agreed to try it old school. We found this cool dude and gave him simple instructions. The cover has to be purple and the reaper has to be central. Half a year later we got his work, and with little tweaking, we have the cover of Hexed. It is very different from what we are used to, even the Reaper looks different, but at the same time very spooky.“ More...
