Former Angra Vocalist Passes Away

Brazilian power metal veterans Angra has confirmed reports that original vocalist André Matos has passed away at the age of 47. A statement from the band (loosely translated) reads as follows:

"Dear fans and friends: in respect of the passing of the co-founder of angra, Andre Matos, we decided to cancel today's It wouldn't make sense to go on stage to play while we cry for the loss of our journey companion, whom we owe much of our Andre's legacy is confused with angra's, and so we're going to go up to the stage of temple music today, but only to honor him and remember his importance in the history of each of us, who lives the heavy metal Daily. On this day, our instruments are quiet in mourning.

"The show is rescheduled for July 28th, Sunday, in the same place, and those who wish to be there with us tonight can also participate in the show on the new date. Those who prefer to have a refund of their ticket can do it by the means where they acquired the same

Matos formed Angra in 1991 while attending Santa Marcelina Music College with guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and André Linhares. Two years later, the band released their first album, "Angels Cry" and with Matos on vocals, the band then released "Holy Land" in 1996 and "Fireworks" in 1998, before Matos, along with bassist Luis Mariutti and drummer Ricardo Confessori, left in 2001.

The trio would form the band Shaman, who would change their name to Shaaman due to legal issues after their first album but received commercial success owing to the song, "Fairy Tale" featuring in the soap opera "Beijo do Vampiro" ("Vampire Kiss.") Matos then went on to launch a solo career, which at one time featured future Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande and released three studio album, "Time To Be Free" in 2007, "Mentalize" in 2009 and "The Turn Of The Lights" in 2012. Burning Witches Parts Ways With Vocalist

Swiss heavy metal outfit Burning Witches has announced that they have parted company with vocalist Seraina Telli. No reason has been given for the departure, but the group has vowed to continue. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"Dear Witches fans, we have been through some very difficult weeks, so please understand that there will be an official statement released very soon. We are travelling now back from the Sweden Rock festival that we just played.

"Yes it is true, Seraina has left the band by her own choice and we are all very sad about that fact but we are keeping our dream alive! So please stay tuned & thanks for your understanding - YOUR WITCHES!!!"

Since forming in 2015, the band has released two full length studio albums, "Burning Witches" and "Hexenhammer" and one live record, "Burning Alive." In February of this year, the band spoke to Metal Underground at their first show in the UK. You can check out the interview below. More...
