Megadeth Gearing Up For Tour Dates
Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine has issued the following statement about gearing up for upcoming live performances:
"Droogies!
"Well, we were finally able to let the cat out of the bag and post that we are going to be playing on Sept., 17th on the Jimmy Fallon show in NY. I am so pumped to do this show, because I have done several shows before, like FX, Jon Stewart, Politically Incorrect, Arsenio, and the great Dave Letterman, (and there was obviously the rush of Letterman), but few were as fulfilling as being on Bill Maher or Jon Stewart's shows.
"I am sure that there is going to be quite a lot to talk about soon, as I am having to make a considerable adjustment with my business and personal chops for this new record and this next tour; basically starting over.
"I have been going over every stitch of my stuff and preparing for a much leaner tour and a much more efficient approach to Megadeth, and my life in general. It has been really interesting going over all of the stuff in the studio for the last year, as well as my personal stuff. There are years worth of memories, as well as tours and tours worth of stuff out in the warehouse. More...
Austrian Death Machine Posts Teaser Online
As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis and California frontman Ahhnold are back for round two with the release of AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE’s "Double Brutal," the follow up to 2008’s highly successful release, "Total Brutal." This two-disc set features one disc of all new heavy tracks in the tradition of all of Ahhnold’s greatest cinematic moments and a second disc of cover songs including songs originally performed by METALLICA, MEGADETH, MISFITS, JUDAS PRIEST and more, with cover art once again being tackled by Ed Repka (MEGADETH, DEATH, NOFX, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, etc), and is set for a North American release on September 29, 2009. The album also features guest performances by BUZ MCGRATH (UNEARTH), ANDREW TAPLEY (THE HUMAN ABSTRACT), JAMES GERICKE (DEATH BY STEREO), MARK MACDONAL (MERCURY SWITCH), ROCKY GRAY (LIVING SACRIFICE), RUSTY COOLEY and more.
A new audio clip featuring sneak peeks at tracks taken from Double Brutal is currently available on Austrian Death Machine's MySpace page.
“Sometimes being stereotypically metal is fitting. I'm not trying to break new ground; I just want to break people's necks... and have fun doing it,” comments AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE creator Tim Lambesis.

Thrash Metal's "Big Four" To Tour?
According to Slayer guitarist Kerry King, a dream tour featuring Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax could well be in the works. Speaking to Britain's Metal Hammer magazine, King stated:
“I’ve heard people referencing Lars. I don’t know Lars that well and I haven’t heard it from Lars but apparently he’s talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth (and), I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together but how do you leave out Machine Head? There’s better options than Anthrax and that’s nothing against Anthrax, but they’ve just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn’t make as much sense to me."
The closest the world has got to having the "Big Four" tour together came in 1991 when Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax were joined on tour by the up and coming Alice In Chains, who stepped in for Bay Area thrashers Death Angel, on the Clash Of The Titans tour. The tour also went to Europe where Megadeth and Slayer performed without Anthrax and Alice In Chains but with Suicidal Tendencies and Testament.
Mustaine Revels In #1 Placement In Guitarist Book
Metallica Blog Magnetic has posted an excerpt of Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine's interview with Classic Rock magazine about his #1 placement in Joel McIver's recent book, "The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists." As usual, since he was fired from Metallica in 1983, Metallica is the topic of many of his interviews.
How did it feel to be No.1 in Joel McIver's recent book, The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists?
"It was especially sweet when I found out that Joel has written books on Metallica. I looked at my copy of the book – I wasn't on the cover or the back. I figured I'd be somewhere like No.69. So I thumbed through it; it's a really comprehensive, good book. I got to No.50 and I thought, `Am I in here?' I'd been told that I was, but not which position. So I got No.16 and I saw Hetfield. I thought, `Wow' because I respect James. I'm a better lead player than he is, but he's one of the three best rhythm players in the world."
The other two being?
"Malcolm Young [of AC/DC] and myself. Malcolm kept it basic but brought a whole new style of rhythm playing to the world. So I got to the Top 10… I still wasn't in there. Every page I turned, I became more excited. I get to No.5 and it's Kirk [Hammett], and I thought, `Thank you, God'."
"At that point it didn't matter [which position I was]. To be better than both of them [Hetfield and Hammett] meant so much – it's been one of the pet peeves of my career and I've never known how to deal with it. I didn't realise that it has had so much bearing upon my life. Then I got to No.2 and it was John Petrucci [of Dream Theater] and I froze. I was No.1.
"What made it better still is that the guy wrote: `This isn't about Dave as a person because he's been a cock' – [interjects with a bray of laughter] – `These four pages are about his guitar playing, which is the best. There are people who are better at one thing that Mustaine does, and others that are better than another, but no-one who's as good at everything'. All I thought was… I win!"
In a way did it represent closure?
"That's it exactly. I'm not addicted [to anything] anymore. And I'm no longer struggling with past demons from another band [Metallica]. That game has ended. Lars [Ulrich] called me up and offered the chance to come to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame thing and not be inducted, to sit in the audience [instead].
"'It's only for people who've been on the records' is what I was told. That would have been awkward. So I didn't go. There are obviously some unresolved issues on Lars' part. But you know what? If God wants me in the Hall Of Fame, I will be there."
Dave Mustaine Slams Lars Ulrich... Again
In the September 2009 issue of U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine (see cover below), Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine explains the reasons behind his decision to turn down Metallica's invitation to attend their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Mustaine, who was a member of Metallica for less than two years, from 1981 to 1983, before being dismissed and replaced by Kirk Hammett, tells the magazine, "Lars [Ulrich, Metallica drummer] said, 'If you were on the record, you got inducted; if you weren't on the record, you didn't,' and would I come along and hang out and watch them get inducted? I was like, 'Dude, that's so typical!' It makes for the same kind of mentality as a guy watching some other guy fuck his girlfriend. I just said, 'I'm flattered and I'm proud of you guys and I wish you well. I'll be there if I'm being inducted, but if I'm gonna watch, then I've got better things to do.'"
Mustaine adds, "To say that I'm not on the record, well, I'd say that there are 40 million fans with Megadeth and Metallica records in their collections that would say that Dave is on the Metallica records because my name's on there [in the songwriting credits], but I guess Lars never really looked past the word 'Ulrich.' He just stopped there and read it again, over and over and over!
"Bottom line is, I'm going to get into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame one way or another and he can't keep me out! When I do, I'm going to ask him to induct us and I'm gonna give eggs to everyone in the front row! [Laughs]" More...
Megadeth Issues Radio Show Update
Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine has issued the following update about starting a radio show:
"Droogies!
"Recently I made a post about my new radio show and that I was blessed to be able to be working with Clear Channel with my own Channel, like the Christina Agulara and the Eagle's Channels. I am unaware of if their Channels are accesable yet, but I know mine will be in just a few weeks. Here is an update:
"I talked to the Clear Channel people again last week and we are ready to go. We are going to do the first show from the Clear Channel station in San Diego, and I will hopefully be able to do an interview for the local San Diego Clear Channel Rock Channel. After that, I will determine what I need to make my studio ready to do the show.
"I am going to play music I like, music that influenced me, and ‘zingers’ - which are songs that you would never know that I liked (like the Beatles, or stuff like the Dead Kennedy's).
"I am going to collect all of your suggestions for some bands and songs, and we are going to start the show before I leave for New Zealand. More...
Dave Mustaine Comments On Conducting Interviews
Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine has issued the following statement about conducting interviews:
"Droogies!
"So yesterday I am doing an interview, the third in a dayfull of interviews, which I am so weary of, and their ‘certain’ questions, that it can turn the mood of an interview into complete sh*t with-in seconds.
"I mean do interviewers not know that I am onto them? That I know they are just waiting to spring an antagonistic question to get me to talk shit about someone?
"You have no idea how much it sucks to be talking to a complete stranger, baring your soul, and then the person springs the questions that he has been salivating over asking, and with-in seconds, like I said, the interviews can turn south.
"I think it is unfortunate that you, as my fans, or if you're just lurking, and even if you are here under false pretenses just to be a shit stirrer (and there are a few here), it still sucks to be reading an interview and then it sours, and you are left at the mercy of the guy telling the story in the press, because he will ultimately decide that selling his magazine (or whatever - some people don't even have a job, and they just fool our publicity department at Roadrunner and get to the band) is more important than decency, character, and literary, journalistic integrity. Megadeth Comments On "Head Crusher" Music Video
Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover has issued the following statement about recording a music video for the track "Head Crusher:"
"Now that I have had a bit of time to reflect on the Head Crusher Video we just filmed in L.A., I must say that is was the best Video that I have been apart of, thus far. I arrived 1st to the shoot, so I was afforded a bit of time to check out the set, talk to the Director, crew, etc. and observe a few fight sequences, which was very cool, to say the least. The entire shoot was executed with the utmost professionalism - Hey, we even had our own Director's chairs - Pretty cool, if you ask me.
"Keep checking in with us right here and on www.theliveline.com Tons of cool stuff is coming your way soon, believe me.
"Have a good day, humans."

Dave Mustaine Issues Neck Surgery Update
Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine has issued the following update about his recent neck surgery and his upcoming autobiography:
"Droogies!
"Well, I made it and day two of the procedure is almost over. I wanted to take this time to thank you for all of your support. It was necessary for me to do this so that I could continue to operate at maximum potential for us all, and the timing was right, the Doctor was right, and my mentality was prepared to have a long frikken needle stuck into my neck, just short of the brain stem.
"I am over any of the pain from the procedure and I thank you for the confidence to break free from this bondage. I am also starting to experience the effects of the cervical epidural that they did, and the medication that they inject into my spinal column. We are optimistic that this will eliminate any need for further procedures to address the bulging disks in my thoracic vertebrae. More...

"Droogies!
When you love someone or something so much that it actually starts to hurt you, yet you continue to stay in a relationship, or in a circumstance, or in a situation where you start to do damage to yourself and others.
"Well, I have been working with a very badly damaged neck and the few lower vertebrae, right beneath my neck in between my shoulders is damaged too. What I have currently injured, and am requiring the start of what could be a very quick and painless procedure. I would work my ass off to heal again, like I did with my arm injury, and should be back in the saddle in no time. More...
