Thrash Metal's "Big Four", Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer And Anthrax To Tour?

Photo of Metallica

Band Photo: Metallica (?)

According to Slayer guitarist Kerry King, a dream tour featuring Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax could well be in the works. Speaking to Britain's Metal Hammer magazine, King stated:

“I’ve heard people referencing Lars. I don’t know Lars that well and I haven’t heard it from Lars but apparently he’s talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth (and), I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together but how do you leave out Machine Head? There’s better options than Anthrax and that’s nothing against Anthrax, but they’ve just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn’t make as much sense to me."

The closest the world has got to having the "Big Four" tour together came in 1991 when Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax were joined on tour by the up and coming Alice In Chains, who stepped in for Bay Area thrashers Death Angel, on the Clash Of The Titans tour. The tour also went to Europe where Megadeth and Slayer performed without Anthrax and Alice In Chains but with Suicidal Tendencies and Testament.

Yeah, add Testament as the #5 any day. Anthrax would have to be with Joey or they are just not the same as the "big 4" Anthrax anyway. Maybe Machine Head would be willing to play old Vio-lence songs as well! That part of this whole thing that excites me the least is Metallica. I just haven't liked James' delivery after their Black album tours and have had no desire to see them again or especially hear them play the newer stuff (or butcher the old).

On second thought, just throw Slayer, Anthrax, Testament and Machine Head on Gigantour and make it worthy of its name.

With Anthrax singer-less and Dave Mustaine shooting his mouth off because he can't figure out other ways to promote an album, I don't see this happening. Metallica and Slayer I could see. Slayer and Anthrax would be great. But Megadeth touring with Metallica? Not gonna happen.

Kerry King reverted to "be a d***" mode and called Mustaine a hypocrite (extremely original, huh?) in a recent interview, so a Gigantour with Slayer on the bill is completely out of the question.

I know the interview you're talking about BTP, and to be fair he did say in the same interview that Mustaine was a great guitar player. King is someone that has always spoken his mind and gives reasons and logic if he's slagging someone off. He's not always being nasty a well and I wouldn't call King an attention seeker, which Mustaine is.

Anthrax would be great to see, but unless convince Belladonna to rejoin them again, it's not really worth it. It would make sense to have Exodus or Testament replace them, preferably Exodus cuz I haven't seem them either. Maybe have Death Angel or Suicidal Tendencies open. STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!

So .. yeah. why not ignore machine head and metallica and just have a machine head / anthrax / slayer tour? Much better, and much less sold-out. ;D

And while we're at the 'dream line-up' list, i'd rather have dark tranquillity, mercenary and burden of grief on the same bill anyday, thanks. Anyone who thinks that would be the best line-up ever needs to open their eyes and ears I'm afraid, no matter how awesome canadian carnage sounds.

Honestly they are onto something here and i like it, but "the big 4" is really just the bands causing big rucuss in the music industry with metallica and their new sound, slayer getting the fastest guitar known to man at the time on tape and selling, anthrax was the first band to make an impact on the other side of the U.S. and rocked like exodus, overkill, metal church, all them, but on the east coast. Megadeth, when they came out it was the first "rivalry" in metal and is the biggest still. Plus megadeth makes awesome songs in any type of sound, except risk. I'd see this show immediately but personally id like it to be anthrax open as a crowd pumper, slayer 2nd to get the crowd into badass moshes that will send the wimps who cant take the metal vibe, then metallica 3rd, and megadeth ends it with peace sells...but whos buying and do what they did on gigantour a few years back and get everyone on stage to sing PEACE SELLS, BUT WHOSE BUYING? PEACE SELLS, BUT WHOSE BUYING!!!? Mustaine, hetfield, araya, and belladonna singing that would be awesome.

What's with the Anthrax bashing? Personally they're my favourite out of the big four. I love Slayer and I still listen to Metallica, don't really care about Megadeth anymore, haven't been impressed since I was 14 and The System Has Failed sounded like the heaviest album in the world to me. But yeah, I'd love to see a show with the Big Four, especially if Bush was behind the mic for Anthrax.

I really would leave Machine Head off of the tour though. As has previously been said, they aren't really a thrash band and I really can't see what's so great about them. Sure they're a good band and I enjoyed their set when I saw them supporting Metallica, but I don't think they fit here. Testament would fit nicely on the bill but I don't know if Exodus could do a big arena/stadium so well as they're quite an intimate band live and interact alot with people personally. Death Angel might be a good addition though.

Machine Head is f***in phenomenal live and I can't see why they won't fit 'cause thrash influences run rampant on all their non-nu albums. Warbringer would be a great choice for an opening band, too.

Musically, Megadeth may very well be the best of the four, but they get boring after awhile I find. I used to listen to them all the time and be a real die-hard fan but lately it almost seems like effort to listen to them, whereas I can just chuck an Anthrax record on and enjoy it anytime. I don't listen to Metallica or Slayer alot anymore but I enjoy listening to them more than Megadeth. I'm not slagging Megadeth off and I'd love to see them again, but I'd take the other three bands over Megadeth.

Anthrax with Joey
Megadeth playing nothing off Youthanasia, and all other records till United...
Metallica plays only 80s stuff, nothing else, because its sad some people wanna see some Damage Inc, and other posers just screaming Exit Light, Enter Night (doh)
And about Slayer - Whatever they play its kickass.Even if they play Diabolus, God Hates...or whatever.Still wanna hear Necrophobic though ;D

For Openers, I say Machine Head or Warbringer, but would be kickass to have both Testament and Exodus.

Now listenig to - Mama Said.. jk :D:D
Sodom - Tired and Red \,,|

No offence to Anthrax but I think Testement should replace them in the big four and they should add a #5 for Kreator YAA KREATOR
