Van Canto Posts "Turn Back Time" Video Online

This past summer, Germany's most thundering voices Van Canto set free their eighth studio album, "To The Power Of Eight," to spread their unique soundscapes as the world's most exciting acapella metal masters. Now, the energizing powerhouse is ready to impact the new year with their unique Rakataka-style by unveiling a brand new atmospheric music video for "Turn Back Time," cut from their latest full-length. The harmonizing song appeals to the calmer side of the multifaceted outfit and showcases the wide range of creativity that Van Canto stands for since releasing their first record, "A Storm To Come," in 2006.

Van Canto on "Turn Back Time":
“'Turn back Time' is a ballad that has quite a history behind it. I wrote it together with Bastian back in 1999 for our former band Jester's Funeral. At that time, the instrumentation was more like 'Bard's Song', with acoustic guitars and a lead singer. We never finished the songwriting on this one, and over 20 years later we came across it again while listening through old demos.

"Since the lyrics are about what would happen if you could turn back time (but maybe you don't even want to), we thought it would fit quite well that a composition from our teenage years would finally see the light of day on the eighth album of a seasoned band. Listening to the song now, you'd think it had always been written for Van Canto and with eight singers in mind." More...

Van Canto Posts New Lyric Video Online

Germany's most thundering voices Van Canto recently set free their eighth studio album, "To The Power Of Eight." Now the world's most exciting acapella metal masters follow up directly and release the snappy anthem, "Dead by the Night," along with a rousing and atmospheric lyric video.

Van Canto on "Dead by the Night":
"After the rather soundtrack-like intro 'To the Power of Eight', 'Dead by the Night' is the actual opener of the album. We wanted to show everything that is possible with three lead singers right at the beginning. The result is an uptempo power metal song with Rakkatakka-riffs, big melodies and a huge background choir. All this comes along with a very positive message that points out how important it is to enjoy the moment. In the end, we all can be dead by tomorrow (or by the night!)." More...

Van Canto Shares Amon Amarth Cover

The world's most exciting acapella metal masters Van Canto return with their energetic and unique Rakkatakka-power and are set to release their highly anticipated, inimitable new offering, "To The Power Of Eight," on June 4, 2021 via Napalm Records. Van Canto are well-known for their catchy tunes and sophisticated interpretations of various scene classics and follow their path with record number eight as well, as the album triumphs with four red-hot cover versions and eight own, rousing band anthems!

Today those thundering voices unleash their very own and remarkable take on hammering "Raise Your Horns" by Swedish Vikings Amon Amarth. Van Canto took the well-known favorite and turned it into their own unique version, featuring band trademarks without losing sight of the actual core of the track. Horns up!

Van Canto on the song:
"'Raise Your Horns' is a very special cover for us. For the first time Van Canto tackled a song where the lead vocals are consistently in the lowest growl register. Thanks to the constellation of having three lead singers, Hagen could spread out in the lead, while Inga can set high, almost orchestral accents and Sly leads the choir together with Jan. For the first time in a while it's also a song where a "real" riff sets the direction, so that the Rakkatakka and bass singers are extremely busy as well. A great composition by Amon Amarth, that we gladly pay homage to." More...

Van Canto Releases New Music Video

The world's most exciting acapella metal masters Van Canto return with their energetic and unique Rakkatakka-power and are set to release their highly anticipated, eighth inimitable offering, "To The Power Of Eight," on June 4, 2021 via Napalm Records. Prepare for an outstanding vocal attack as the unit has just dropped the new, rousing single “Falling Down”, along with an official music video today!

Since 2006, Van Canto have delivered pure vocal power to the metal world and prove that heaviness does not necessarily need riffs and bass lines. "Falling Down" takes off at full speed as a stomping, heroic power metal anthem that leaves no muscle inactive. Both male and female vocals are given space to shine, but also harmonize together as one entity.

Van Canto on "Falling Down":
"'Falling Down' is a Van Canto powerhouse, a composition with powerful vocal riffing, endless harmonies and a dramatic arrangement. The lyrics describe the timeless moment of creativity when you feel a melody entering your brain to then materialize into music.

"We put our focus on all the details in the vocal arrangements, tying together Sly's heroic lead voice together with Hagen's rough power and Inga's epic smoothness like an eight-knot. 'Falling Down' combines Van Canto's trademarks and brings them to life by a combination of a rock'n'roll stage environment, on- and off-stage visuals and a lot of Power of Eight and more, thanks to all the people involved! It is inspired by all work Robert Naumann has done in all previous videos of VAN CANTO. Robs, we love you and we miss you." More...

Van Canto Premieres "The Bardcall"

In 2006, Van Canto surprised the world of metal with a revolutionary idea: to perform metal music with vocals and drums only. Nine years later, after five top 20 releases in Germany, sold out headlining tours throughout Europe and festival performances taking the band from Wacken to Australia, Van Canto now mark a new chapter in the story of “metal a cappella”: Vocal Metal Musical.

“Vocal Metal Music further develops what we stand for as Van Canto. Not only can our voices sing and imitate guitars but they are also able to tell stories. It has been six years that we’ve been working on this concept – and now we’re finally able to share it with the world," says founding band member Stef.

March 11th will see the release of the brand new Van Canto album “Voices Of Fire” on earMUSIC. For this release, the band has teamed up with German bestseller author Christoph Hardebusch (“Die Trolle” – engl. “The Trolls”) who is going to release his new fantasy novel “Feuerstimmen” on March 17th, 2016 on Piper Verlag. Pre-order the album at this location.

“We are barely able to tell what came first: the music as part of the novel or the novel as part of our album. Christoph Hardebusch and we worked hand in hand on this. Our compositions did influence the novel and vice versa. Simply put, we created our own world – a world full of competing kingdoms, epic battles, dragons, fire and bards. Not always deadly serious but full of adventures to set your imagination running wild… like Van Canto does,” explains lead singer Sly who developed the plot of the novel together with Christoph Hardebusch.

"On the one hand working closely with Van Canto was a lot of fun but on the other hand it was also very demanding,” adds author Christoph Hardebusch. “The great picture can only be achieved when creative minds interact with each other; the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Right from the start, story and music has been a unit which has influenced and fueled each other."

The cover artwork for “Voices Of Fire” as well as its various illustrations were created by fantasy artist Osmar Arroyo from South America. “For this album, we wanted people to actually see the most important scenes. Omar is a great artist who understands our vision,” Ross, responsible for the guitar vocals, adds.

The track list for the album is:

1. Prologue
2. Clashings on Armour Plates (see lyric video here)
3. Dragonwake
4. Time and Time Again
5. All My Life
6. Battleday's Dawn
7. Firevows (Join the Journey)
8. The Oracle
9. The Betrayal
10. We Are One
11. The Bardcall
12. To Catharsis
13. Epilogue

Today, Van Canto has teamed up with Metal Underground.com to premiere the new music video for the track "The Bardcall." The video features Lord of the Rings actor John Rhys-Davies. Check it out here: More...

Van Canto Premieres Lyric Video For New Track

German inventors of Power A Cappella Van Canto have announced the impending new release "Voices of Fire." The band has signed on with earMUSIC for the album's release, which is set for March 16, 2016 in Europe (North American date TBA). "Voices of Fire" is the follow up to the 2014 album "Dawn of the Brave" (see our review at this location).

As a first taste of the new release, the band has teamed up with Metal Underground.com to bring you the lyric video for the first single "Clashings On Armour Plates," which can be viewed in the player below. The track marks a new chapter in Van Canto’s musical story: Metal Vocal Musical. The first song of the album to see the light of day perfectly demonstrates that the six musicians of Van Canto are not only able to imitate instruments such as guitars, basses and keyboards but instead and first and foremost tell stories.

"Vocal Metal Music further develops what we stand for as Van Canto. Not only can our voices sing and imitate guitars but they are also able to tell stories. It has been six years that we’ve been working on this concept – and now we’re finally able to share it with the world," says founding band member Stefan Schmidt.

The band has teamed up with German bestseller author Christoph Hardebusch ("Die Trolle" – engl. "The Trolls"), who is going to release his new fantasy novel "Feuerstimmen" on March 17th on Piper Verlag.

"We are barely able to tell what came first: the music as part of the novel or the novel as part of our album. Christoph Hardebusch and we worked hand in hand on this.
