Zakk Wylde Talks About Ozzy's Upcoming Album

Ozzy Osbourne is readying his 15th solo album and Billboard.com talked to guitarist Zakk Wylde about it.

"There's a bunch of kick-ass stuff on there," said Wylde. "It is just ass-kicking, heavy stuff, and we've got the ballads, some piano stuff and some acoustic stuff."

Wylde's Black Label Society is headlining the tour's second stage, and the guitarist is also playing with Osbourne on the select dates the former Black Sabbath frontman is doing on the tour.

He says "It would've been great if we got [Osbourne's album] done before the Ozzfest, but it's like trying to cram three pounds of crap into a two-pound leaking bag, if you know what I mean. There's not enough hours in the day to get everything done."

"But right now it's coming out slamming. I think once the Ozzfest is done, Ozz can start writing at home in the studio and start knocking vocals out." The as-yet-untitled album is Osbourne's first featuring all original material since 2001's "Down to Earth."

Zakk Wylde will release Black Label Society's sixth album, "Shot to Hell," on Sept. 19. Wylde, who co-produced the set with Michael Beinhorn, cracks that the title refers to "what happens to our kidneys, livers and pancreas, being out on the road with Black Label."

Ozzy's Country Mansion Catches Fire

The Associated Press reports that Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne's country mansion in Jordans, 26 miles west of London, caught fire on Thursday morning as the result of a faulty lamp according to the fire service.

Neither Ozzy, Sharon nor their children Amy, Jack and Kelly were at the house when the blaze occurred, a family spokesman said. Paramedics treated a member of the household staff for smoke inhalation.

The Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue service responded to the blaze at 7:25 a.m., after the family's alarm system alerted them, spokesman Fraser Pearson said. "We were able to prevent the fire from spreading," Pearson said. "It was relatively small." The fire caused minor fire and smoke damage to the entrance hallway of the mansion.

The fire service plans to try to meet with the Osbournes to advise them on fire safety, Pearson said.

Ozzy Doesn't Rule Out Black Sabbath Activity

Ozzy Osbourne recently spoke to Paul Saitowitz of The Press-Enterprise about his participation in the 11th rendition of Ozzfest, the traveling metal circus helmed by his wife, Sharon. And though this is the first time he will not be included on all dates, hanging it up is the furthest thing from his mind.

"No way, man, this is not a retirement thing at all," Osbourne said over the phone minutes before joining his band for a pre-festival rehearsal. "I've never really taken time off before, and touring in the summer gives me trouble with allergies, so I thought I'd relax a bit."

Instead of making fans wait 12 hours to catch him at the end of the night, this time around the "Prince of Darkness" will take the stage by day. He'll be out there with the sweaty, tattooed, screaming metal-core outfits — ATREYU, UNEARTH — playing on the second stage before the sun goes down.

"It's going to be crazy but that's what I'm all about, brother," Osbourne said. "I want to give people the chance to see me and my band up close ... the crazier the better, as long as no one gets hurt and people behave themselves."

According to Ozzy, Ozzfest fans will see a lot of his classic solo material and sadly just one BLACK SABBATH effort. Osbourne fronted BLACK SABBATH from its inception until he left to go solo in 1979, then reunited with them in the early '90s. The group has headlined three Ozzfests.

"I'm only playing one SABBATH song and I'm not saying what it is, but I'm also not saying that you've seen the last of SABBATH," he said. "We may get together again, but for now it's the solo stuff, which is a completely different animal."

Slow Ticket Sales Caused WI Ozzfest Cancellation

Promoters have confirmed that slow ticket sales have caused Ozzfest to cancel its Twin Cities stop for the second year in a row, according to StarTribune.com.

The show, set for July 14 in Somerset, Wis., did not include fest founder and namesake OZZY OSBOURNE, who is performing only a handful of concerts this summer. SYSTEM OF A DOWN, DISTURBED and AVENGED SEVENFOLD were among the acts slated to appear at Float-Rite Park in Somerset.

Avenged Sevenfold and DragonForce On Ozzfest 2006

It comes as little surprise that Avenged Sevenfold have been officially confirmed as the mystery band on the main stage for Ozzfest 2006. The real surprise announcement is that power metal band Dragonforce, recently signed to Roadrunner Records in North America and rumored to be joining Gigantour 2006, has been added as the main stage opener as well.

Ozzy Osbourne is now slated to headline the second stage on three dates (replacing some dates that he was previously thought to be headlining the main stage):

July 8 - San Bernardino, CA's Hyundai Pavilion of Glen Helen
July 11 - San Antonio, TX at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
July 22 - East Troy, WI at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre

OZZY says, "After 10 years of headlining Ozzfest's main-stage I think it's time for a change. I haven't had a chance to play this close to an audience in years and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it."

Also announced is that Ozzfest emcee Big Dave and professional Ozzfest party guy, Eddie, have begun their nationwide search visiting 19 of the festival's 26 cities to find the first-ever Miss Ozzfest. The duo will be accepting entries and taking photographs of Miss Ozzfest candidates in each city. Throughout the summer the Ozzfest fans can vote for your favorites at Ozzfest.com. Blasko To Leave Rob Zombie To Join Ozzy

Bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson has now confirmed that he has left ROB ZOMBIE in order to join OZZY OSBOURNE's new recording/touring band. Speaking to Debby Rao of KNAC.COM, Blasko said, "It is kind of all talk; it is kind of all up in the air. But potentially I will be doing Ozzfest this summer. The whole rumor thing is kind of funny, in a sense that actually ya know I auditioned with Ozzy in the summer of 2003. I got the gig then. It is just that, what I was auditioning for got cancelled because he got in that accident. So of course that got cancelled. The following two (years) had been BLACK SABBATH headlining. Ozzy hasn't done anything solo till this past Thanksgiving. We went to London for the NFL kickoff, where we performed 'Crazy Train'. We did a couple of things over in London, a variety performance and we did Ozzy's induction to the U.K. Hall of Fame. I have performed with Ozzy on all the solo performances that he has done since I got the gig in 2003. Me playing for Ozzy is not really this new thing. It just so happens that this is the first time the two band gigs will cross paths (on tour). I have been juggling both and I had to make a decision. I just chose to go out on Ozzfest again. It will be my fourth time. That is always a really good time. There is nothing negative or any drama. It is just how things worked out."

Ozzy In 'I Can't Believe It's Not Butter' Campaign

U.K.'s Checkout magazine is reporting that Unilever UK Foods is launching a TV campaign for its "I can't believe it's not Butter" brand featuring Ozzy Osbourne and impersonator Jon Culshaw.

The 7-million-pound campaign goes live this month and is designed to support the relaunch of the product, which has a new recipe, and a new pack design.

The campaign will also include press and poster advertising.

Brand manager Noam Buchalter said: "The aim of the activity is to communicate the improvements made to the spread and to highlight the new packaging."

Jon Culshaw impersonates Ozzy Osbourne in the TV ad, which plays upon the fact that it is as difficult to tell the two Ozzies apart as it is to distinguish between "I can't believe it's not Butter" and butter.

"'I can't believe it's not Butter' now tastes so much like butter that the two Ozzies can't tell the difference," added Buchalter. "'I can't believe it's not Butter' has always been a great impersonator of butter and proud of it. Who better to star in the ads than the U.K.'s best impersonator? Jon and Ozzy make a great double act and their infectious personalities will have a great impact on consumers."
