Desertfest UK 2022: Day 2
Following a fantastic opening day marking the tenth year of Desertfest in London, it was time to head back to Camden on the Northern Line for another day of doom, desert and stoner music, in a city which may not embody the aesthetics of the music, but provided an excellent area with quick access to most of the venues. After arriving on the tube and having a quick chat with the Socialist Workers booth outside the station, it was another descent into The Underworld to begin what would no doubt be another highly enjoyable day of rock and metal.
Not having the same advantage that Blind Monarch did the day before of being the only band on, Scottish heavy/doom metal band King Witch still drew an impressive crowd and once they began playing, it was easy to see why. Think about all the things you loved when you first discovered heavy metal music and you'll notice that King Witch has them all. Led by the Doro-esque delivery of vocalist Laura Donnelly, the quartet's take on traditional metal is a refreshing one, not drenched in denim and leather, but taking the melodies and darkness that made metal so challenging for the status quo to begin with and bringing them into the modern world. They looked like they were having just as much fun as the audience and it was so easy to like them. I also can't remember the last time I enjoyed the bass so much! A fantastic start to the day from a band who will surely be back at Desertfest and much higher up on the bill in the future. More...

Desertfest UK Announces Lineup Changes
The organisers of the British edition of Desert Fest, which will celebrate it's tenth incarnation next month, have announced that a number of bands have been unable to make it to this year's festival, including Corrosion Of Conformity and The Obsessed. The good news however is that they have booked a number of replacements. A message from the organisers reads as follows:
"Due to circumstances well beyond our control, the following artists are no longer able to perform at DF London ’22: Corrosion of Conformity, The Obsessed/Wino, Khemmis, Somali Yacht Club, Mos Generator, URNE, Shuck.
"We know this news comes as a disappointment however, all is far from lost as we are thrilled to be welcoming 1000mods, Greenleaf, DVNE, Ritual King, Shooting Daggers, Old Horn Tooth & Personal Hell to the bill!
"We hope you understand that touring is still extremely difficult to navigate during these times, with a lot of decisions taken out of our hands. But your continued support of independent live music means everything to us. We cannot wait to see you in a little over a month!
"If you are still after a weekend ticket, the best thing to do is sign up to the DICE waiting list. Or you can nab yourself a Saturday + Sunday (Non-Roundhouse access) combo ticket here.
"More info regarding after-parties, merch + a very exciting reveal of what's going to be on offer down on Greenland Place is all to come.. stay tuned!" More...

Stöner Streaming Debut Album
"Stoners Rule," the debut album from the new desert rock supergroup Stöner, featuring Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri, will be released tomorrow, Friday, June 25 via Heavy Psych Sounds. Pre-order in North America, and Worldwide. Find an advance album stream below.
Says the band: "Out in the desert where we come from, Punks, Skaters, Metalheads, Hippies and Freaks are all Stoners. We’re all misfits and we don’t like squares and outsiders trying to disrespect our scene. Outsiders might take notice but they take Nothin’."
Brant Bjork’s desert vibe meets the punk attitude of Nick Oliveri and creates an explosive mix and a particular branch of rock. The sound is mellow, but these are the same guys who created the legend of Kyuss, and the Desert-Stoner rock movement which is alive now more than ever. This album is a celebration of the sound of the Desert, driven by the spirit of these incredible musicians and artists. Seven original tracks for this incredible debut album which describes how to ride into the dusty roads of the Mojave Desert where it has all begun. Brant’s vocals give a classic color to the hypnotic-bluesy riffing background.
The release was recorded at The Rad Cabin, Joshua Tree, CA on October 12, 2020 by Yosef Sanborn. Cover art by Branca Studio.
Tracklisting:
1. Rad Stays Rad
2. The Older Kids
3. Own Yer Blues

Stoner Announces UK/Ireland Tour Dates
US rock trio Stöner have announced a UK & Ireland headline tour in April & May 2022 as well as an appearance at Desertfest London. This news follows the release of their live album Live in the Mojave Desert, out now via Heavy Psych Records.
Stöner are Brant Bjork (guitar/vocals), Nick Oliveri (bass/vocals) and Ryan Gut (drums).
From flowing epic jams to all-out punk blasts, by name alone it’s safe to say they know
what they are doing. It ain’t anybody’s first time at the dance, you don’t call your band
Stöner from lack of experience.
Stöner, however straight-ahead their moniker, encompass varied styles and the
songwriting of Bjork and Oliveri – both founders of Kyuss, also Mondo Generator, Ché, Fu
Manchu, Bloodclot, as well as Oliveri’s position as bassist / vocalist on the most
celebrated Queens Of The Stone Age albums from 1998-04. Atop the classic-style swing
and flow from Gut (also of Bjork’s solo band), Stöner keep it casual and wear the name
as only those who helped create the sound could.
Brant Bjork commented: "One of the first things Nick, Güt and myself wanted to do when we got Stöner together was to get over to the UK and Ireland. Good things come to those who
ROCK. See you all soon."

DesertFest Announces Full 2022 Lineup
As the home for all the things truly heavy, leading independent UK festival Desertfest have announced their full line up for 2022, which will take place in Camden, London from Friday 29th April – Sunday 1st May.
Celebrating their tenth year, next year’s festival promises to be their biggest and most diverse yet. Covering six venues across the heart of Camden and now including a full line up at The Roundhouse on both Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May.
Founding owner of Desertfest Reece Tee comments, "Desertfest is 10 years old! I’m so proud that our independent festival has stood the test of time. What we have created is special, a decade of great bands, great friends and amazing memories. This year’s line up is a true reflection of how diverse Desertfest has become and with such a loyal audience, Desertfest can champion the underground for decades more to come."
Headlining the Friday will be Swedish heavy rock masters Witchcraft, with a UK exclusive performance and their first UK show in over a decade.
Saturday’s headliners are none other than Chicago’s Shellac, who in another UK exclusive will be bringing their experimental post-hardcore sound to the Roundhouse. Fronted by the iconic Steve Albini, Shellac are one of those bands we all need to experience live, at least once. Whilst closing the festival on Sunday will be UK doom legends Electric Wizard, whose heavy sound encompasses the spirit of Desertfest.
Other acts confirmed include the likes of Corrosion Of Conformity, Orange Goblin and Truckfighters who all played the festival in its debut year in 2012 and there are further UK exclusive performances from hardcore-punks Integrity and the Ukrainian psych space rock trio Somali Yacht Club. More...
