Mayhem Reigns Over London

Europe often gets treated to amazing metal lineups. Be it at a festival or a tour, there's usually an exciting combination of bands joining forces to thrill the continent (especially in Germany.) Sadly, thanks largely to some ridiculous politics decisions over the last ten years, the United Kingdom is beginning to get left behind on this front, as it's becoming too expensive for artists to come to our grey, piss stained island. So, when three of extreme metal's fiercest names come together for a tour and there's a British date on the schedule, it doesn't matter if it's a Tuesday night in a city you don't live near, it can't be missed! And such was the case for the "Death Over Europe" tour, where Mayhem were showcasing their brand new album, "Liturgy Of Death," released a mere four days before the show.

Only twenty minutes after the doors opened, fans were treated to the first band of the night, Immolation. They've long been one of the most respected death metal bands to emerge from the New York scene, and one of the most reliable too. You know that Immolation will give you no nonsense death metal every time you hear them and tonight was no exception. It must be hard to boil down thirty five years of albums into ten songs but the quartet covered a lot of ground, with the most recent album, "Acts Of God" being the only record to feature more than one song to represent it, including opening number, "An Act Of God." There was no shortage of old favourites too, including the title track from their debut album, "Dawn Of Possession" and "Higher Coward" from the beloved, "Close To A World Below." Immolation has a strong stage presence, while also encouraging the audience to participate and enjoy themselves, without the cliche lines like "Are you ready to party!?" This was the perfect way to kick off the night. More...

Marduk To Play Mystic Festival 2026

Marduk, Bölzer, Disharmonic Orchestra, and Knife Bride are the next four bands we welcome in the festival’s line-up. Mystic Festival has already announced several bands for its 2026 edition with many more announcements to follow.

For now though, these are the bands included in this announcement.

Marduk

In 1990, the gates of hell opened in Norrköping to release Panzer Division Marduk into the world, with the unrelenting Morgan Håkansson steady at its helm. With each subsequent record – from the debut album Dark Endless to the most recent Memento Mori – the Swedes have defined anew the concept of musical sacrilege. Each of their concerts burn everything to a crisp and in those somehow left alive, they ignite the want for another go at it with the black metal beast.

Bölzer

Had we not seen them, we would’ve not believed that a duo can wreak such a havoc on stage. From perfectly familiar elements – death and black metal in particular – KzR and HzR compose their own story. Bölzer emanates raw power, doing all the heavylifting and taming chaos. A while has passed since the release of their phenomenal debut album, Hero, but the sophomore record is locked and loaded, and all signs seem to point to the Swiss taking the new material out of the holster in the shipyard.

Disharmonic Orchestra

A legend of the Austrian scene. With their twisted trilogy from the early 90s – the albums Expositinsprophylaxe, Not to Be Undimensional Conscious, and Pleasuredome – Disharmonic Orchestra proved that extreme music knows no bounds. Avantgarde ideas and the courage to realise them, however, did not mean that the band has ever denounced their death/grind identity, certainly not when they play live.

Knife Bride

Pioneers and masters of the genre that they themselves christened nu-gothika and in which you will find echoes of metalcore, emo rock and nu-metal, among others. Full-throttle concerts and emotionally charged songs quickly made way for this four-piece from Brighton to reach the stages of the best festivals. Today, Knife Bride are counted among the most important representatives of the new wave of alternative metal from the Isles. More...

Live Concert Report: 2021 Josefstadt (Day Two)

Day two of Josefstadt has ended. Before we get into some photos from the day, I wanted to touch on a couple of issues from my day one report.

By late afternoon on day two, there were no signs that fire had ravaged part of the food area on day one. New tents were in place, new signage, new cooking equipment, and everything was back to normal. I’m not sure how such a quick renewal can take place, but someone made it happen.

The sound/lighting booth that I mentioned as being a viewing obstruction on day one was moved back quite a bit for day two. There were still hundreds of people with little or no view behind it during the Marduk and Hypocrisy sets though.

Now for some day two photos.

Mean Messiah

Laura Guldemond of Burning Witches

Truchło Strzygi

I felt like Truchło Strzygi had the best performance of the day—very lively and entertaining. Smiles from ear to ear all across the audience.

Kids get in free!

Dordeduh panorama on the Octagon stage

The above photo was taken from the previously mentioned bar area that serves as a balcony of sorts for the Octagon stage. Best view in the house, but, unfortunately, only 15 or so people can fit.

Marduk

Ad Nauseam

Hypocrisy

The day three update won’t happen for a few days, as I will be too busy traveling, but it will happen. I promise. I’m really looking forward to Azarath and Mgla today.

More photos (and I mean dozens more) will eventually be posted here.

Marduk Show Cancelled After Venue Was Sabotaged

Marduk‘s show at the Life House club in Rzeszow, POL earlier this week was cancelled under rather extraordinary circumstances. While recent reports have alleged two members of the band were found to have purchased Nazi propaganda back in 2016 - which the band have denied - this doesn’t seem to be the controversy that caused the show to be scuttled.

It seems that pressure from the Polish conservative Christian political party PiS was mainly responsible, as they had called for the show to be prohibited earlier for "promoting satanic content." While the venue owner didn’t succumb to public pressure, somebody obviously broke into the venue and stole a water meter and pipe that essentially cut the venue off from having running water the night before the concert.

While the venue ordered portable toilets, washbasins and a fire fighting water tank, local authorities still would not give the venue permission to proceed with the show. Marduk‘s booking agency Massive Music issued the below statement on that matter (translated from Polish):

“Something unusual happened. From the beginning of the announcement of the concert concert in rzeszow, they were on us and the pressure club to cancel this concert. The situation was definitely over yesterday and today. The Club, only today, had police control, fire department, and sanitation. On yesterday’s “unknown” Perp broke into the club, cut out a part of the pipe with wodomierzem, cutting off the club from running water.

On this basis, the health department has halted the activities of the life house club (until it is restored to the current water club) Coincidence? The Club did everything for the concert to take place (he ordered portable toilets, sinks, a fire tank, and even in case a aggregate generator). Unfortunately, the strength of political pressure and offices has proved too large. We regret to cancel tonight’s concert even though the teams are in rzeszow and the stage is ready.

There has never been such pressure in our history, letters from lawyers and control. We were also not able to move the concert to another place, because the checks appeared only today, on the day of the concert, and other clubs in the city did not talk to us or fear the risks.

Purchased collector tickets can be returned at sales points. Tickets from the network network can be returned after a long weekend as soon as the disposition returns.”
