Shane Embury Brings Back Blood From The Soul
Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury, also of Brujeria, Lock Up, Venomous Concept and Absolute Power to name but a few, has confirmed that he has reactivated Blood From The Soul, the industrial hardcore project he formed with Sick Of It All frontman Lou Koller twenty seven years ago. A new album, "DSM-5," is set to be released on November 13th.
Unfortunately, Lou Koller will not be involved this time around, his place being taken by Converge vocalist Jacob Bannon. The project will also feature a full lineup, instead of a drum machine, with Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren (who himself has been as of late with such projects as Brave The Cold, Bent Sea and Scarve) with Nasum bassist Jesper Liveröd completing the ranks.
The band has also released a new song, "Debris Of Dreams," which can be heard below. More...
Nasum To Release Final Show On DVD
Today, October 6th, marks eight years to the day since the members of Sweden's legendary grindcore outfit Nasum put the band to its final rest with an emotionally and sonically pulverizing show at Stockholm's now defunct Debaser Medis venue.
To mark the occasion, film maker Michael Panduro, Nasum and Selfmadegod Records announce the December 2020 release of the DVD version of the concert/documentary film surrounding the band’s final stand in 2012.
During its tenure, Nasum rose to become one of the most influential acts of the extreme underground. When lead singer Mieszko Talarczyk disappeared and died in the devastating and tragic tsunami of 2004, Nasum instantly ceased to exist. When the band's would-be 20th anniversary aproached in 2012, the band decided to put the band to final rest "the way it was supposed to end - exploding in a ferocious, blasting frenzy, not withering away at the mercy of tragedy." Sunday Old School: Nasum
We've seen before in our Sunday Old School series of columns how grindcore, a sub-genre more or less agreed upon to have been started in England, a suitably grim setting for such a filthy style, has spread throughout the world since its genesis. While the scenes in the UK and the United States provided us with some of grindcore's biggest names such as Carcass and Brutal Truth, bands such as Cripple Bastards in Italy showed that the style wasn't just limited to English speaking nations and such is the case with today's featured band, Nasum.
Nasum were formed in 1992 in the city of Örebro by guitarist Anders Jakobson and drummer Rickard Alriksson, who also provided vocals, a rare thing but seen before by such bands as Autopsy. They were soon joined in their endeavour by Polish guitar player Mieszko Talarczyk, who joined in time to participate in recording the split release, "Who Shares the Guilt?/Blind World" with Agathocles through Poserslaughter Records. It was the first of a number of split releases, which saw the band share vinyl with the likes of Psycho, Autoritär and Abstain amongst many others, with EPs of their own finally surfacing in 1995 and 1997 unde thte titles, "Industrislaven" and "World In Turmoil" respectively. Nasum Posts New Road Report
Nasum is currently embarked on a final farewell European tour, and the band has now checked in with a new road report. Excerpts from the report are available below, or you can find the full thing complete with pictures over at the Nasum website here.
September 28 - Madness In Munich
On the second show out of three in Germany we went to the Backstage complex in Munich. Apparently we've been here before, during the long tour with Napalm Death back in 2001. I had gotten this place mixed up with the Feierwerk or possibly Hansa 39 which are two previous venues I've been to in Munich. Imagine my surprise when I woke up in what can only be described as an jungle… The entire complex is surrounded by palm trees and other plants and I had no idea where we were.
The complex has a number of halls in different sizes and we played in the "Club" which is one of the smaller ones, if not the smallest one. I believe there were four different things happening at Backstage at the same time so it felt quite weird. Would there be any people coming to our show?
I spent most of the day in pain. My back was aching badly due to unknown reasons. Maybe a combination of a weird sleeping position and a cold that only struck the back. I was feeling it already in Geneva but in Munich it was really bad. Luckily we had a nice backstage area far away from the stage so I could take it easy and take care of some internet business.More...

Forgotten Tomb Confirmed For Extremefest 2012
Extremefest 2012 will take place in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on the following dates:
5. July 2012 - 7. July 2012 DE – Hünxe, ExtremeFest Germany
5. July 2012 - 7. July 2012 AT – Salzburg, ExtremeFest Austria
5. July 2012 – 7. July 2012 CH – Pratteln, ExtremeFest Switzerland
The organizers of Extremefest have now issued the following announcement about confirming Forgotten Tomb and Ultrawurscht:
"Forgotten Tomb been around since 1999 and the Italians have caused quite a stir in the black and dark metal underground! 'Songs To Leave' (2002) or 'Love`s Burial Ground' (2004) are rightfully considered milestones of melancholic dark metal that the fourpiece infuses with doom and black metal elements. In 2011, Forgotten Tomb released their most recent effort 'Under Saturn Retrograde' and fans can look forward to one of the rare appearances of the Italians at the Austrian and German editions of Extremefest!
"It´s all about the sausage with Bavarian / Austrian act Ultrawurscht! Their highly explosive mixture of death metal, grind and hardcore – or simply 'Wurschtcore' – will one day conquer the world, and if you had the chance to check out albums such as 'Cheese Ass Built My Hot Dog' you`ll agree! Mixing metal and sausages should be declared a form of art anyway, so slap some wieners on the grill before checking out Ultrawurscht`s exclusive set at the Austrian edition of the Extremefest 2012!"
