Background
God Dethroned was formed by mainman Henri Sattler in 1990. After one demo they released their debut album “The Christhunt” in 1992 on a tiny German label. Due to problems with the other band members and the record company, Henri decided to split the band. He then formed Ministry Of Terror and released the “Fall Of Life” album with them in 1994. After a European tour Henri left the band and re-formed God Dethroned. With new band members and better songs in his back, Henri and the new God Dethroned recorded “The Grand Grimoire” and inked a deal with Metal Blade. Many successful tours followed in Europe, the U.S. and Japan with great Death and Black Metal acts like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Immortal, and Marduk, just to name a few.
In the meantime most of the renowned festivals were played: Dynamo Open Air, Wacken, Graspop and Summer Breeze. Drummer Roel Sanders left the band after the US tour promoting “Bloody Blasphemy”. Nile’s Tony Laureano played on the “Ravenous” album, but couldn’t stay. Janne from The Crown played on the tour and finally new drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek came in, whose first recording experience with the band was “Into the Lungs of Hell”.
Bassist Beef and guitar player Jens didn’t have the motivation any more to keep on touring and playing, so they decided to call it quits after about 8 years. About 2 months before the recording of “The Lair of the White Worm” bass player Henk joined the band, and 2 weeks before the recording axeman Isaac came in.

Sunday Old School: God Dethroned
It's been noted several times throughout the history of Sunday Old School that the Netherlands has made its fair share of contributions to the world of heavy metal, from the Eindhoven Open Air festival to such groups as Pestilence, The Gathering and even the Van Halen brothers. The Netherlands seems to always have solid representatives at festivals, particularly in Europe and one which has done the country proud for over twenty five years would be one of their longest serving death metal outfits, God Dethroned.
God Dethroned was the brainchild of vocalist and guitarist Henri Sattler, who put the group together in 1991, along with Hans Leegstra on guitar and drummer Ard de Weerd. Leegstra wouldn't stay for long however and was quickly replaced by bass player Remco Hulst who performed on their "Christhunt" demo recorded the same year. The bassist's stay would also be short lived and soon his place was taken by Marco Arends, who joined in time for the band's signing with German label, Shark Records. Through the company, God Dethroned released their debut full length album, "The Christhunt," which was received very well by death metal fans, but with practically no promotion from Shark, who had refused the first album cover, the record sold very poorly and they were soon dropped, leading the group to disband. God Dethroned Releases "Annihilation Crusade" Clip
Next week (May 5th), Dutch death metallers God Dethroned will unleash new album, "The World Ablaze," worldwide via Metal Blade Records.
In anticipation of this release, the band has launched a new video for the track "Annihilation Crusade," which can be viewed below.
God Dethroned's Henri Sattler comments: "'Annihilation Crusade' is the opening song from the new album and starts off with a heavy rolling riff before it unleashes its mayhem. One of the more brutal songs on the album but with a beautiful epic middle part. The lyrics are about an army that crushes everything in its path to victory!"
1. A Call to Arms
2. Annihilation Crusade
3. The World Ablaze
4. On the Wrong Side of the Wire
5. Close to Victory
6. Konigsberg

God Dethroned Posts New Video
On May 5th, Dutch death metal band God Dethroned will release new album, "The World Ablaze," worldwide via Metal Blade Records. To hear the second single and title track of the record, a new video for "The World Ablaze" can be viewed below.
Henri Sattler (vocals/guitars) comments: "This song is a mix between epic melodies and fast but catchy riffs - and a song where Mike Ferguson shows off his skills as a lead guitar player. The lyrics deal with the war then, but can also be projected on the current situation in the world."
God Dethroned collectively adds: "'The World Ablaze' is our final album in the WWI trilogy. We aimed to create an album that is very dynamic and diverse. It contains typical GD riffing with loads of melodies and catchy hooks. The songs are perfect for our live shows as they contain many mid-tempo parts combined with faster and more brutal parts. Diversity to the max! Dan Swano mixed the album in his typical fashion but without robbing the band of its own identity. Mastering was handled at the Wisseloord Studios where they also mastered albums for bands like Rammstein, among many others, and they put the icing on the cake. The album sounds crystal clear and heavy as fuck at the same time. We are very proud to present this album during our upcoming Serpent Fest album release shows early May!"
