Overkill's Bobby Blitz Rides On "The Wings Of War"
Whenever the conversation turns to the subject of thrash metal, one name which simply can't be left out is Overkill. Unquestionably the great thrash export from New Jersey, Overkill has been going for almost forty years and at the helm every step of the way has been singer Bobby Blitz and bassist D.D. Verni, crafting a distinctive sound in tone and voice which may imitated, but never replicated.
Recently, the band embarked on their European Killfest tour, a fixture which thrashers in Europe always looked forward to as not only do Overkill always put on a stellar show, but they always bring some killer bands with them. This year they were joined by German thrash giants Destruction and Arizona veterans Flotsam and Jetsam, in what might be the best Killfest lineup yet.
Before the madness began, I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking to Mr. Blitz for the first time since 2016 to discuss their stellar new album, "The Wings Of War," new drummer Jason Bittner and whether there was any rivalry back in the day between American and German thrash metal. You can watch the interview in full below. More...

General overlord JB states: "The moon has returned and with it comes a change. It could be someone you know, it could be you. An aspect of yourself that has always been there."
"Wolf God" majestically rises over the Heavy Metal scene, aided by those classic soaring riffs that we have come to expect from the band. The signature groove and heaviness that featured on the album's predecessor can also be found on the new ninth studio album, which once again provides a fitting home for a number of future classics. Jinjer Posts New Music Video Online
One of the hardest working bands in the heavy metal landscape at the moment, Ukrainian juggernaut Jinjer have released a 4th video single "Teacher, Teacher!" taken from their critically acclaimed 5 track EP entitled "Micro," released via Napalm Records in January 2019.
Filmed in various concert venues throughout Europe on their last tour with Amorphis and Soilwork, "Teacher, Teacher!" is a visually stunning portrayal of Jinjer's exciting and energetic live show mixed over the unique Progressive Groove Metal sound that sets them apart from the rest of the pack.
The band comments on the new track & video "Teacher, Teacher!":
"The idea behind the song is about people that dictate their agenda by means of their status, position, or just their internet claim to fame in order to impose their opinion onto others but those opinions aren’t based on experience nor knowledge." More...
Death Angel Reveals New Album Details
Bay Area thrash metal legends Deatj Angel will release their long-awaited 9th full-length album, "Humanicide," on May 31st via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band has unveiled the artwork, tracklisting and the record’s first new single, the title track, via visualiser. Death Angel will be celebrating the record's release by undertaking a European tour later this year, which includes a UK performance at Bloodstock Festival on August 9th.
With their forthcoming album Humanicide, Death Angel has maintained their throne in the universe of thrash while still managing to remain progressive in their style. They apply a wide variety of different elements to their music, always pushing to add newness to their sound. This time around they’ve included everything from acoustic bits, to guest musicians, to even (for the first time) the notes of a piano. All ten songs flow seamlessly yet each leaves its own distinct impression. The first single and title track "Humanicide" triumphantly represents the entirety of the album, immediately energising the listener. Mark Osegueda remarks: "I wanted to write something that metal fans could really grasp onto. Something dark and intense, that still makes sense. Right now I think it’s so apparent that the earth is in a sickened state."
"When I wrote the music for our song 'Humanicide' I was shooting for an album opener that would have all the elements of an epic thrash opus. This meant a classic metal style intro leading into a ferocious “Bay Area Thrash Riff-o-Rama” - complete with a crazy middle build up section to ramp up the circle pit until it’s all whipped up into a frenzy by the time the frenetic guitar solo hits, then concluding with a maniacal musical section leading into the outro. All it needed was the lyrics and vocal delivery to match the intensity and Mark went above and beyond the call of duty! Some of his best work in my opinion. One of my favorite DA songs for sure, it feels like the follow up to our song 'Thrown to the Wolves'. Can’t wait to play it live!" – Rob Cavestany. More...
