Heavy metal veterans Metallica and Lou Reed, the legendary singer and former frontman of The Velvet Underground, has announced that the name of their forthcoming collaboration album will be, "Lulu." The record's title comes from the plays of German expressionist writer Frank Wededkind's plays "Earth Spirit" and "Pandora's Box," which tell a story of a young abused dancer's life and relationships and are now collectively known as the "Lulu Plays." For more information on the plays and how they serve as the inspiration behind the album, please visit http://www.loureedmetallica.com/. "Lulu" is scheduled to be released on October 31st in Europe and November 1st in North America.

Either that, or they called it Lulu due to the explanation in the link.
Knowing the concept, I'm now very interested to hear what the album will sound like. Sepultura did great jobs working The Divine Comedy and A Clockwork Orange into albums, perhaps with Lou Reed at the helm, Metallica can do the same.

Gayest. Name. Ever.
But, it does sound like an interesting theme; be good for Metallica to get back in the headspace where they're writing music about something, rather than the "I had a bad dream, and it chased me and I was scared and - and then I woke up and it was only a dream!" type bollocks they've been putting out lately.

Rolling Stone said:
"it was "a raging union of [Reed's] 1973 noir classic, 'Berlin', and METALLICA's '86 crusher, 'Master Of Puppets'." The songs were all written by Reed with extensive arrangement contributions by METALLICA."
But I would trust Rolling Stone about as far as I could throw them, and I'd prefer to throw them off a cliff. So there you go. Honestly I'd rather just have another Metallica album.

Not sure that I'm excited for this. I'll give it a listen, but I don't know that I'll go out and buy it as soon as it's for sale. I'll find a way to listen to it first. However, I'm sure it'll have some good tracks on it. But I can't see it being very Metallica-ish. It just seems like something they want to do, and it just so happens that they'll make a ton of money off of it if they sell it.

This sounds.... interesting!!! I know that their last two albums (In my opinion) sucked majorly, but who knows.... maybe this collaboration will re spark the old Metallica back to their roots, or destroy them even further!!! Lets see.
We have all seen bands fail at new things and some bands prevails with new things, all we can do is wait and see what become of the new project.

Why are we even debating it will be good... it's going to suck royally. If it's good, then I might just pass out...or die...or show some other sign of utter incredulity. It's Lou Reed, and the album is called Lulu. I have trouble believeing that tosh of some German dance fest or whatever, seems like they're just turning into fuzzy teddybears and stuff and Lulu is their affectionate name for the new sack tapping game. Not buying.

More than likely, Ill buy the album and more than likely, Ill like it. From Load to St Anger everything sucked big bawls. Death Magnetic was at least a step in the right direction. With Lou at the helm and major contributions from Metallica, the record could be good.
Furthermore, the concept is full of anguish, depression and anger. You could really make a bitterly angry, dark and heavily consuming album.
I for one, am looking forward to it. And hey, its Metallica.

that's the most un-metal name I've ever heard. But I'm unbelievably stoked for the album. can't wait until they go on tour.
