Band Photo: Avenged Sevenfold (?)
James Sullivan, the drummer for Orange County, California based rock band Avenged Sevenfold and better known to his fans as "The Rev," was found dead in his home yesterday (December 28th.) A local examination claims that he passed away from natural causes. His bandmates from Avenged Sevenfold has posted the following message online:
"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.
"Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you."

He was heavily into drugs for quite some time. He robbed his family, friends, and a legion of devoted fans due to his own addictions and selfishness. Nobody touring in a rock band, addicted to drugs, and 28 years of age dies of "natural causes". The only good to come of this is possibly a wake up call to anyone in the same situation.

16. writes:
Google how many rock stars died at age 28 or 29 and it's a who's who of the Hall of Fame. If it happened today Jimi Hendrix and John Bonham would have been declared natural causes by some PR agent. YES R.I.P. "Rev". I don't like all their music but they had fans and they are devoted. Hopefully they can bounce back and learn what it took Nikki Sixx so long to get.

That´s so sad. Rest In Peace, dude.
I wasn´t a fan, didnt hate AS either, but this is just sad.
Btw, Hey guys, even 10year olds can die of "natural causes". Sure, it´s not that common, which is the only good news here, but there´s unfortunately a good bunch of heart diseases that you´ll only find out after... well, after your heart stops. A broken/blocked vein in critical areas of the brain can take out anyone any time. These things do happen.
A friend of mine died at the age of 22 some 10 years ago of a heart failure, and he wasn´t a druggie, nor drank or smoked excessively. We all knew there was a minor extra "beat" or something in his heart rate/pulse, but according to the Dr it was nothing to worry about. And how wrong he was.

Arioch, you sad, sad motherf****r. How can you possibly say something like that about a man who was widely recognised as one of the greatest metal drummers in the world. Not only that, but he was a musical genius. I hope Synyster doesn't decide to leave the band because of this, because that would suck so much. I hope the Rev's fiancee is alright as well.
R.I.P The Reverend Tholomew Plague, you'll be missed mate.

Alot of the MU guys have class, so this wont turn into a hate fest....good luck to the band, thoughts and prayers to his family

I think I second most of these posts, was never a huge fan of A7X, I saw them when they supported Metallica years ago in Ireland and wether or not I enjoyed them myself, they knew how to get the crowd going. Its sad that the guy had to die so young, had his whole life ahead of him, guess that is just how the dice rolls. I'm sure this has put a knife in the heart of every A7X fan. He will, no doubt, be missed.

"..James was a fellow human being !!"
Hitler was a "fellow human being" and so were a lot of other a-holes. Just because a person is a "fellow human" doesn't mean I should feel compassion or regret for their death.
Never met this guy, never liked the music, couldn't say much more then that. Don't give a rat's a$$ about the majority of the "fellow humans" polluting this planet.

Post 44, I think it's quite easy to understand a big diffrence between Adolf Hitler and James Sullivan. We all know how this band has been recieved on this site. But, it's great to see how the metal community respects other people's thoughts when it comes to matters like this. It's easy to say crap about someone that's famous. They are just some person on a photo in some magazine half the time. But, to the people around him, that was someone they loved. I applaud everyone here for the way they have acted. You kickassduke though, grow up.

49. writes:
hey KickAssDuke - why twist part of my comment to suit your own dim view of the world ?? of course there's a big difference between Hitler and a lot of a-holes in the world and Rev . perhaps I should have said " decent human being " a category you don't belong in .

Seriously, Arioch and Kickassduke should grow the f*** up. Not because "Err, dont be mad becuz I hab differunt opinionz!!" but because you don't have the f***ing mental capacity to be quiet if you have nothing better to pass on than the ignorant sh** you sh** just said at this mans passing.

One of my favorite bands. This is really sad. R.I.P Jimmy. O and arioch and kickassduke go f*** urself. Just because u don't like a band doesn't mean u need to leave ur childish comments about something like this. How bout u grow up and keep ur comments to urself.

65. writes:
Look, guys, whether you like the band or not, the man DIED. He wasn't someone who deserves to be mocked and ridiculed after his death. So you don't agree that he's one of the best drummers in the world. Cool, I can respect your opinions. What I cannot respect is people like kickassduke and arioch who think its funny or badass to insult a deceased individual. I'm pretty sure the world of metal music is a FAMILY. Even if we don't like the band, we respect our fallen brothers and sisters. If you can't respect a fallen metalhead who has done NOTHING to deserve ridicule, you are certainly not a metalhead. So, to kickassduke and arioch, go f**k yourselves. You are no metalheads.

"Natural Causes" simply means they don't think he was murdered. Not simply something natural like a heart attack out of nowhere . After the autopsy is when they get specific and will involve drugs use etc..
Anyways, like most people here in no way or shape an A7X fan...But hate to see someone so young go down.

natural causes is just a term used to explain that foul play is not suspected. He pretty much could have died from anything. as long as it wasn't homicide or manslaughter or something that could be held up in court, its going to be labeled natural causes until further work is done. I hate to judge but it was probably drugs. Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin all died at 27 from the same sh**. Mind you i'm not putting this guy anywhere near the same level as those named above and at the same time I'm not trying to discredit A7X either. whether he is a good drummer or not it doesnt matter, those people changed the world and music as we know it, but i digress. another musician dies before 30, like him or not, this sucks for alot of people... even if some of you could care less.

A7X fanboi's and grills: A LOT (two words) of people don't like this band. Many for valid reasons, some not so valid. Regardless of the validity, you all need to adjust your mind set to understand that good, bad or indifferent, people are going to make their comments and express their opinions. Some will be in bad taste, but I must admit that the majority of comments made here were respectful of this young man's passing. This even surprised ME. I expected many, many more hate posts than what has been exhibited here. Most of you are exclaiming that other posters need to "grow up". Most of the retalitory posts here (by all of you who love them) are adolescent at best. Making comments like "if you don't like them shut the fvck up", or "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all". This is metal. Grow a spine and quit b****ing about what other people say. Go down to Hot Topic and pick a fight or something if you so desire. Either way, you are going to have to get used to the fact that not everyone is going to agree with you and respect your feelings. Besides, this is metal... You're not supposed to HAVE feelings left. Not long ago, a LEGEND of the metal community died (RIP Dime). After his murder, many people had some "not so nice" things to say about him. Out of respect for him (and as form of retaliation), I wrote a song (as did many other musicians who knew him including Machine Fvcking Head \m/). The point here is: don't just sit behind your computer and cry about it. Do something. Now... I'm going down to Hot Topic to hang out with AGENT47 and see if any of you whimps will pick a fight with us. Let's blow this popsicle stand AGENT.

I agree 100% with this statement. There are some people you should have no regret for if they died. That doesn't mean they deserve to die necessarily but I felt nothing when the DC sniper was put to death and will feel nothing when Charles Manson dies.
However back to the topic at hand this guy was not Hitler, the sniper, or Manson. I have never of this guy causing harm to another human being and that alone he gets my sympathy. I will also jump on the wagon of the ones who usually hate and say f*** a7x but this guy had some talent. Not adding anything new here when I say 28 is way too young either. My sympathies to James and to his family.

well she has way bigger balls than the twat frontman for A7x so a correction is not needed. and if i replaced running in place of ran it would not sound right, it was used correctly. you do realize words a merely vocal sounds created to communicate ideas and if one gets the point of said toipic then it does not matter about being "correct" as far as what some schmuck said it should be and we all follow suit. because some a$$hole said this is the way it should be does not mean it has to be so.

I dig some of their songs and some of their songs I find to be absolutely horrible. That being said, I don't think that many true metal fans can deny that The Rev was one of the most skilled/creative drummers on the planet. RIP Rev

Ultimate-guitar didn't cover this topic on their news, That doesn't make sense to me. The rev was versatile, okay he wasn't derek roddy but he started by playing ska and still did blast beats early on in a7x. Micheal Jackson died with all his best music behind him, Avenged Sevenfold with the rev could've made better music. I'm really interested in seeing the future of a7x, this might be it for them.
165. writes:
I'm sorry, it's a tragedy he died so young and everything, but he definitely was not one of the best drummers of all time. Igor Cavalera, Dave Lombardo, Paul Bostaph, Charlie Benante, Mike Smith, Scott Travis, Mick Harris, Danny Herrera and Vinnie Paul are just some of the names off the top of my head that deserve that title. A person being dead does not automatically make him one of the best drummers ever.

171. writes:
@Diamond Oz: That is true, I mean those are some great drummers, but for a modern drummer he was one of the best out there. Insane guy the Rev was and he used alot of out of the Norm techniques which is why I would assume the title of best drummer. Hes always been my favorite drummer and I will consider him the best just because of his inventive ways of making music. Just remember there are alot of ways at being the "best" at drumming.

autumn eyes..you deserve the worst that fate has to offer. how could you talk about a talented human being in such a way. not all rockstars have addictions. people die young due to natural way of life. its tragic but its the way of the world. respect him as the person and musician he is not disrespect him cause of some POSSIBLE personal problems. all the support to the rest of the band and be wise in your decision to find a drummer to continue on the music for rev. no matter he is up jammin a mad beat with god himself.

Blindgreed- I understand there are plenty of great drummers that are more deserving of being called creative/most skilled. However, I think he's being underrated. He was a very skilled drummer and a very creative drummer. Lombardo is one of the originals, i would never call The Rev a better drummer than he. I just got carried away.
I don't like overrating people after they die, but he does deserve to be recognized. Sure he may have been a junkie in a band that is for teenagers to listen to, but the guy could flat out play.

That site is realllly misleading. Half of the deaths listed are from celebrities who were big in the 40's or 50's. They mostly died of old age, or age related illness. There were fewer celebrities in years before that mostly because society wasn't so eager to crown a celebrity like we are today it's crazy.

A friend and i happened to be on our way home from a vacation when “rip rev” popped up on the screen of her blackberry at 6am. She asked me who it could be and i could only think of one possibility, i was trying to think of anybody else and hoped i was wrong….
unfortunately i wasnt and avenged sevenfold will never be completely the same i will always remember seeing them live at ODU and the truly amazing concert they put on.
To the people that are posting disrespectful and tasteless comments at a time like this, no one is asking you to magically become a fan of jimmy or the band… if you dont like them its whatever it isnt about liking them infact, if you really dont like them that much why did you care to read the news that he had died? Besides how would you feel if someone close to you died and all somebody did was say well they were talentless anyway so f*** um... you would be p***ed think before you speak. And as for anyone who cares to comment on the cause being a natural one or not who cares! the term its self simply means no fowl play was involved sure there is still the possibility it could be drugs but it could also be heart problems and several other common health problems that occur in young people. Regardless, the bottom line is someone has DIED, there are friends, family and fans all grieving how about you show them the decency and respect everyone in this situation deserves and allow them to mourn in peace
RIP jimmy sullivan you will be missed

The English language is dead, "vicmonster" just set it in stone. Nice to have one long incoherent rambling thought. How about sitting down and thinking about what you want to write, then type it slowly and with proper punctuation. I know this is not English class but the way a person presents a thought or feeling says a lot about them. Learn, read, learn to read. Then go f*** yourself.

I love A7X and other bands like them and I'm not ashamed of it! All you are stupid when you don't pay respect to someone who just died! Whether you liked him or not. You're jerks, and when you die I'm sure people will be just as disrespectful to your death as you were to "one of the best drummers"... R.I.P Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan.

RIP Rev. I saw S7X perform quite a few times and loved their shows, it's not going to be the same anymore. How does a healthy 28 year old male just die of "natural causes"? Really? I don't think so, there's something not being released. Best of luck to the band, I hope you all can recover from this terrible event.
