Shadows Fall Discusses New Album Details
Details for the long awaited new record from Shadows Fall have recently been disclosed. With regards to some of the new music for the band’s Fall 2009 release, singer Brian Fair says, “There are songs based on pure aggression and chaos, like 'My Demise' and 'Embracing Annihilation,' that showcase the thrash metal and melodic death metal influences that have been the bedrock of the Shadows Fall sound. There's tons of shredding guitar leads, double bass drum insanity and full on screaming.”
As previously announced, Shadows Fall will be releasing their Fall 2009 release on their own label in collaboration with Warner Brothers’ Independent Label Group, Ferret Music and ChannelZERO entertainment. The band have a handful of upcoming dates which are noted below, including the triumphant return of Shadows Fall to New Jersey when they perform in support to KORN and an upcoming appearance at this year’s Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee. Shadows Fall Starts Recording Drum Tracks
Jason Bittner of Shadows Fall has issued the following recording update:
"DRUMS HAVE BEGUN FOR NEW SHAD ALBUM!!!!! However it's too bad I can't even tell you what the name of it is going to be because we haven't figured that one out yet!!!
"Anyhow, I moved into our old stomping grounds PLANET -Z recording in Hadley, MA with our ever present 6th member Zeuss patiently watching me load my menagerie of drums inside! "Is your kit bigger this time??" he asked, I then laughed because technically it's smaller.........I dropped off a few cymbals!! He just sighed, and proceeded to find every mike available in Massachusetts in order to capture every nuance of my Tama Starclassic BBE kit. This is the first time I'm not recording with my "old-faithful" blue sparkle birch kit, but so far we are in amazement on how good the Birch/bubinga hybrid kit sounds. AMAZING!!! Deep, resonant, and the tones are killer. I can't tell you how psyched I am over this record. The Shad camp has been through a lot over the last year, and I think it shows in this record..........the songs are a little more on the darker, angry side..........lots of heaviness, lots of crazy guitar, and LOTS of room for me to have some fun. There is no doubt in my mind that this will be the best performance of my career, so far, and i owe that to my guys for bringing me incredible riffs to write killer drum parts to. More...

Century Media Celebrates 20th Anniversary
2008 has become an extremely exciting year in the history of Century Media Records, one of the world's most respected independent homes for heavy music, as the label is celebrating its 20th anniversary!
The company's Anniversary year started off with an extremely successful, first-ever yard sale/party at the Century Media office in Dortmund (Germany) in June, where several hundred guests partied out on exclusive live shows by Angel Dust and Turisas. A video with impressions from the event can be seen at this location. A photo gallery for this event can be viewed here.
To further celebrate this anniversary Century Media Records will release the very special 2CD compilation "Covering 20 Years Of Extremes" on September 15th in Europe and on October 14th in North America. The various artists covers-release includes 32 mostly exclusive recordings and will be available in stores for the price of one CD. Sticking to the "keep it in the family" slogan, CM approached their artists about covering songs from other acts within the label's repertoire and the response from the musicians was overwhelming.
Some choices were obvious and homages to the bands that influenced them, others were inspired picks. This combination ended up leading to a heavily entertaining and truly special final result across all sub-genres of heavy music.

Mike D Talks About Overcast's Future
MTV.com reports: It's been two years since influential Massachusetts metallers Overcast announced they'd be reuniting for a single release — a collection of re-recorded tracks culled from the band's poorly produced back-catalog.
But on Tuesday, after what was a prolonged, yet modest, bidding war (or as close to a bidding war as you can get in metal), Overcast's reunion LP, "Reborn to Kill Again," finally landed in stores. And while the band has a handful of reunion shows booked through August 30 in Waterbury, Connecticut, with Dissolve, the reunion is going to be short-lived — at least for the time being.
With frontman Brian Fair's first priority being Shadows Fall, the band he joined after Overcast's 1998 demise, and bassist Mike D'Antonio's other band, Killswitch Engage, set to start work on their next studio effort in October, Overcast's reunion can't carry on forever. But D'Antonio said there's a chance the band could release new material down the line.
"When we recorded it, we just tried to get the songs sounding as good as they possibly could, and there are two songs we'd never recorded that are on this record," he said. "We had talked about doing another record, and there's another record on the table under our contract with Metal Blade. We can do it if we want. If we don't, whatever. But we have discussed doing another record, and I'm kind of excited about tinkering with ideas for it. That said, if we did start writing a new album, and it wasn't turning out like an Overcast record, I don't think we'd put it out. It really needs to have a certain vibe. It can't be another metalcore record, like the things that are going on these days. It really needs to have that old-school mentality, which we had held true back then. If not, it's not even worth it."

Ozzfest 2008 Deemed A Success By Organizers
Billboard.com reports: Ozzfest 2008, with Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne as headliners, grossed nearly $3.5 million and drew close to 30,000 people to Dallas' Pizza Hut Park, according to producers Sharon Osbourne and AEG Live.
Sponsored by Affliction Clothing, this year's Ozzfest marked the return of the 13-year-old hard music brand after a free run at amphitheaters last year. This year's one-off event did "fantastically well," Sharon Osbourne told Billboard.com. "The one thing is you want for the kids to go away and keep talking about what a great show it was, and that's what they're doing."
In addition to Metallica and Osbourne, mainstage acts were Serj Tankian, Hellyeah, Johnathan Davis, Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica, and In This Moment. The second stage featured Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. On the third stage were the Sword, Drowning Pool, Rigor Mortis, Within Chaos, The Destro and "battle of the bands" winners Debris and Black Tooth.
Osbourne says plans are for Ozzfest to return to Dallas again next summer, likely as a two-day festival, and other cities are also being considered. "Ozzfest ain't going anywhere," she says. "We do try and shake things up and experiment. We're not the old donkey that plods on doing the same sh*t."

Monsters of Rock
Nearly 20,000 hard rock and metal fans braved the heat on Saturday to show their support for the one-off, one-day Monsters of Rock in Calgary, AB. While the line to get into McMahon Stadium stretched over a football field in length as ticket holders went through to the necessary ticket scans and bag checks, Zimmers Hole grabbed the stage by the bull horns and audibly spurred concert goers as they trickled in. Zimmers Hole, fronted by Chris Valagao (who later signed autographs wearing nothing but red body paint and a butt flap), gave a short, but high energy sampling of funny, thrashy goodness. And it was super cool of Ozzy to have a Canadian band kick start the festivities. More...
