Shadows Fall Starts Recording Drum Tracks For Upcoming Album
Jason Bittner of Shadows Fall has issued the following recording update:
"DRUMS HAVE BEGUN FOR NEW SHAD ALBUM!!!!! However it's too bad I can't even tell you what the name of it is going to be because we haven't figured that one out yet!!!
"Anyhow, I moved into our old stomping grounds PLANET -Z recording in Hadley, MA with our ever present 6th member Zeuss patiently watching me load my menagerie of drums inside! "Is your kit bigger this time??" he asked, I then laughed because technically it's smaller.........I dropped off a few cymbals!! He just sighed, and proceeded to find every mike available in Massachusetts in order to capture every nuance of my Tama Starclassic BBE kit. This is the first time I'm not recording with my "old-faithful" blue sparkle birch kit, but so far we are in amazement on how good the Birch/bubinga hybrid kit sounds. AMAZING!!! Deep, resonant, and the tones are killer. I can't tell you how psyched I am over this record. The Shad camp has been through a lot over the last year, and I think it shows in this record..........the songs are a little more on the darker, angry side..........lots of heaviness, lots of crazy guitar, and LOTS of room for me to have some fun. There is no doubt in my mind that this will be the best performance of my career, so far, and i owe that to my guys for bringing me incredible riffs to write killer drum parts to.
"Day one I banged out 4 songs, two of them being two of the hardest songs on the album. The first one being "F&*K it All", which is the new tune we've been playing live..........on this one, I think I do my best Charlie Benante impersonation, lots of long db kick lines. The later tune being a raging fast song that we are just calling "Thrashy" for now, but just imagine "Angel of Death" and War Ensamble" mixed together.........I think this is about as close as I'll get to getting my "inner Dave Lombardo" out on record. I 'm very proud of these two songs..........and the other two we did that day were "Rocker" and "#6". As I said, we don't really have all the titles for the songs yet because Brian's still working on some of the lyrics.........but he's got plenty of time, I only have half the record done, and we still have guitars and bass to do before he even has to worry about singing the lyrics!!
"On day two I ventured back in to go to work on "My Demise," which will probably be the album opener........what a killer song, the chorus groove is ridiculous!! Followed by "Number One", that's the title cause it's the first song we wrote for this album, and then I finished the day out with "Morbid Angel". I love these "working titles", this one being named after one of our fav Death Metal bands cause a few of the drum/guitar lines are reminiscent of that band!!
"At that point I was out of things to do since we hadn't done any scratch guitar tracks for the other remaining songs, partially due to the fact that we are still writing as we speak! Never fear though, yesterday we took a day and went out to our jam room and cleaned up 2 other "works in progress", and now tomorrow I will start tracking those 2, followed by a few covers!!
"So we just want to let everyone know, that we are very hard at work on this record, and we hope that you guys and gals will think it's as killer as we do!! Signing off for now........"

This has to be a tense moment for them.
Though some defend it, "Threads of Life" was a disapointing album for many. This report of heavy, dark and angry is obviously a response to that. Hope that holds up...One of my favorite catchy-bands. I've been a fan for years but I'd have to pass on something "more" poppy than Threads.

Believe the hype, from what I've read the new stuff is indeed heavy and much more intense. There's a video at YouTube of a new song called F*** It All, and despite the crappy sound quality you can tell it's a ripping track. Also, Chris "Zeuss" Harris is back to produce this record.

So some of the drum/guitar lines are reminiscent of Morbid Angel? that sounds pretty sick, I'm looking forward to a new release from this band, hopefully something a little heavier than Threads. Not that I disliked that album but I felt it was a slight step down from the war within.

"War Within" and "The Art of Balance" were skating the edge of brilliant. Surely the band knows that was a winning formula and diluting it was a mistake. "Of One Blood" holds up really well too (the remastered version is worth it)...Hoping for the best but I won't be party to another "Threads of Life"
Now Playing: Watain - "Dead but Dreaming"

"The Light that Blinds", was worth the price of the entire War Within album.
"Redemption" was just barely worth the electricity I used to play the cd. Thank god I stole the album.
Truthfully, not really as horrible as I make it out to be, the last album wasnt half bad. the problem is me. As I've said before on another topic, "Nothing satisfies me unless it impresses me". "Threads", did no such thing, so I'm rather bah humbug about it.
While a juvenile title like f*** it all has me a bit worried, I'm at the very least, intrigued to hear a darker, heavier shadows fall that is still p***ed about the low sales of their last album. :b
Now playing: Metallica- the Call of Ktulu

Mehh, I am a HUGE Shadows Fall fan, ever since their Somber Eyes to the Sky days...and I love their new album too. I thought his clean vox were actually really good. The breakdown on the song Burning the Lives was SICK! They did have some amazing songs on the album, although it didn't satisfy all of their fans, I still think it was a solid album.
All of that aside, in my opinion, their best song they have made in my opinion is Destroyer of Senses. It is f***ing awesome.

^that would be the song that made me like them in the first place, soooo I guess ur right lol
Personally, I've always enjoyed his clean vox, but it make sit impossible to get very many of my friend sinto this band. I show them something that sounds fast, kinda angry, marginally heavy, and then comes clean singing. It throws so many people off that they just claim the band as p***y garbage. meh, I'll just have to sit in my corner and keep this band to my self then I suppose...
Now Playing: Behold...the Arctopus- Scepters

Ever since I saw SF live I've been partial to Stepping Outside the Circle. They dedicated it to Dimebag and the crowd went into a one of the craziest circle pits I've ever seen. With that said, I really like Fallout from the War even though it's a cd of left overs.

That Behold song is great, I love the huge build up and subsequent freak out in the middle of that one.
As for Shadows Fall
I didn't have a problem with the clean vox, they're very good and have been for years. Even reviewed that aspect of the album fairly positively for that...The complexity, tempos and instrumental intensity got shafted on "Threads". It just lacked that whirlwind-conviction that made all their prior albums stand out imho.
Now Playing: Arsis - "My Oath to Madness"
