Slash: GNR, STP Reunion Gigs A "Good Idea"

Slash was recently asked by MTV Brazil about a possible reunion of the original Guns N' Roses lineup. "It's been 12 years now... 11 years... and it just doesn't seem like one of those things that any of us are really thinking about doing," the Velvet Revolver guitarist said. "And I'm not saying never. I would say it would be a good idea to get, just for a couple of shows, to get the original STP and the original Guns N' Roses to do a couple of shows for the fun of it."

Velvet Revolver To Drop GNR Songs From Concerts

The Rock Radio reports that Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash told Chilean magazine Rock & Pop this week that while the band is still playing songs from Guns N' Roses and Stone Temple Pilots during its current run of South American shows, it plans to drop those numbers from its set list later this year. Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum were all in G N' R, while singer Scott Weiland previously fronted STP. Velvet Revolver will likely abandon playing tunes from those bands as it incorporates new material from its upcoming Libertad album into the live show.

Slash said that the old Guns and STP tracks are in the set for now because Velvet Revolver has never played South America before.

Libertad, Velvet Revolver's second album, has had its release pushed back from early June to later that month. The CD's tentative first single is called "She Builds Quick Machines."

Duff McKagan said in a recent interview with Kerrang! magazine that the group had a hard time starting work on Libertad after a vacation of several months. He explained, "It was really, really tough getting us back together into a place where our headspace was right to be able to start a new record. We were all pretty fragmented...It took us a while to get back to where we were feeling good, and we finally got that back last July and August."

Velvet Revolver will launch an 11-date U.S. trek on May 4th at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.

Weiland's Wife Arrested for Torching Wardrobe

Not exactly metal news, but a fun spectacle and follow up to the previous story about Scott Weiland and his wife trashing their hotel room, his wife has since been arrested for torching the rocker's $10,000 wardrobe in front of the couple's home in Toluca Lake, CA.

According to police, 31-year-old Mary Weiland was booked for investigation of felony arson vandalism after cops responded to a "female burning clothes" call late Saturday evening.

The couple's two kids were placed in the custody of family friends.

Weiland was booked at a Burbank police station just after midnight Sunday morning and was released after posting $50,000 bail three hours later.

The arrest came only hours after the couple was kicked out of the Graciela Hotel in Burbank following a ferocious argument that left Weiland's room in shambles and blood on the linens. The hotel is pressing charges against the Weilands for the damage they caused.

In real Velvet Revolver news, the band announced more tour dates, which we recently posted here.

Scott Weiland And Wife Trash Hotel Room

TMZ reports that VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland and his wife allegedly trashed a Burbank hotel room during a rampage last weekend, and now the hotel is pressing charges against the Weilands for the damage they caused.

Sources tell TMZ.com that Weiland and his wife Mary ripped alarm clocks and phones from their sockets and threw them, made "dents and gauges" in the walls, and that there was even blood found on some of the linens afterward.

The trouble allegedly started when Mary arrived at the hotel Saturday, whereupon the couple got into "a huge argument" witnessed by their two young children, who had to be taken away by Weiland's assistant. Weiland himself then left, leaving behind Mary, who could be heard throwing things in the room, according to TMZ.com. The police were called, and the hotel is pressing charges for the damage caused. There's no word whether either Weiland or his wife were injured in the spat.

Weiland pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges against Mary in December 2001 and was sentenced to probation and forced to pay a fine.

Van Halen's Hagar, Anthony Show Up at HoF Ceremony

LiveDaily.com reports: Weeks of speculation and drama came to an end last night (3/12) when former Van Halen members Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar were the only representatives from the band to attend its ceremonial induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Of the five acts inducted this year--Van Halen, R.E.M., Patti Smith, Grand Master Flash and The Ronettes--VH had generated the most pre-induction buzz because of the band members' turbulent history, conflicting reports about who among them would attend, and whether or not any of them would perform during the event.

"I can't tell you how much I wish everyone was here tonight," Hagar said during his acceptance speech. Original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, whom Hagar replaced in the mid-'80s, was a no-show, as were brothers Alex Van Halen (drums) and Eddie Van Halen (guitar). Eddie, the group's chief musician, announced last week that he would enter a rehab facility for undisclosed reasons, which presumably prevented him from attending.

"First off, I'd like to say god bless you to Edward Van Halen," Anthony said during his remarks. "I wish you were here, buddy. He couldn't be here tonight. He's home gettin' some help. I love you, man."

"I think Eddie's gonna come out the other side a better person, and maybe we'll get our buddy back," Hagar added. "This is ... it's just hard for Mike and I to stand up here and do this, but you couldn't have kept me from here with a shotgun. I'm honored to be here."

Following their acceptance speech and a Van Halen-tribute performance by Velvet Revolver, Hagar and Anthony joined the house band--led by Paul Shaffer--for a rendition of the Hagar-era Van Halen hit "Why Can't This Be Love."

After leaving the stage, Hagar and Anthony faced the media in the pressroom. During a brief Q&A session, Hagar said he favors a Van Halen tour featuring himself, the Van Halen brothers, Anthony and Roth.

"If we all grew up--including me and Mike--[if] all of us can all grow up and all of us do it together, I'm down with that, anytime, anyplace, anywhere," he said. "But let's just hope that Eddie comes out the other side, you know, better than ever, and I think that'll make everything a lot easier."

Hagar added that, whether or not he tours with Van Halen again, he thinks the band should definitely mount a reunion tour with Roth.

If you missed the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony last night, you can catch it all on-demand exclusively on Spinner. You can watch the full show or pick a certain performance or speech in their archived coverage as well as backstage footage.

Chris Cornell Delays Solo Album Release

Launch Radio Networks reports: Former AUDIOSLAVE and SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell's second solo album, "Carry On", has had its release date pushed back from May 1 to June 5. No explanation was given for the delay. Cornell began working on the disc last fall after the release of AUDIOSLAVE's third album, "Revelations". News of the solo project fueled rumors of a split with AUDIOSLAVE, with Cornell officially leaving the band last month due to "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences." The 14-track effort will feature "You Know My Name", Cornell's theme for the latest James Bond film, "Casino Royale", as well as a cover of MICHAEL JACKSON's "Billie Jean".

Cornell has also contributed a song to the soundtrack of the movie "Bug" and told Launch a little about the movie. "It's based on a play, but it's sort of, it's also an extremely edgy film," he said. "It's an indie film, it's kind of the opposite of the Bond movie in that sense. But an extremely entertaining and powerful movie. I'm not gonna bother trying to describe it 'cause I couldn't help but give it away. But it's definitely a movie to go see, it's extremely intense."

"Bug", which stars Ashley Judd and was helmed by "Exorcist" director William Friedkin, is due in theatres on May 25. The soundtrack also includes songs from VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland and SYSTEM OF A DOWN vocalist Serj Tankian.

Velvet Revolver To Stand In For Van Halen

Van Halen--a band that has made more headlines over the past decade for its offstage drama than for its musical endeavors--is continuing that trend, this time for reportedly deciding to neither perform during, nor appear on stage to accept, its induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

According to Launch Radio Networks, rockers Velvet Revolver will perform in Van Halen's place, and VR frontman Scott Weiland and guitarist Slash will speak on the band's behalf. The report indicated that it remains unknown whether any of Van Halen's past or present members will attend the event.

Former members--David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar andMichael Anthony--have hinted in recent weeks that they would likely be on hand, but uncertainty has reigned in the wake of the recent announcement that a summer 2007 Van Halen reunion tour that would have re-teamed Roth with founding members Eddie (guitar) and Alex (drums) Van Halen--along with Eddie's 15-year-old son, Wolfgang, filling in for Anthony--has been indefinitely postponed.

VH1 announced that it will carry the first-ever live broadcast of the induction ceremony, which will take place March 12 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The live program will air at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time on VH1 Classic and MHD (MTV Networks' high-definition music channel), and a two-hour highlight edition will premiere March 17 at 9 p.m., according to a press release.
