LiveDaily.com reports: Weeks of speculation and drama came to an end last night (3/12) when former Van Halen members Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar were the only representatives from the band to attend its ceremonial induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Of the five acts inducted this year--Van Halen, R.E.M., Patti Smith, Grand Master Flash and The Ronettes--VH had generated the most pre-induction buzz because of the band members' turbulent history, conflicting reports about who among them would attend, and whether or not any of them would perform during the event.

"I can't tell you how much I wish everyone was here tonight," Hagar said during his acceptance speech. Original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, whom Hagar replaced in the mid-'80s, was a no-show, as were brothers Alex Van Halen (drums) and Eddie Van Halen (guitar). Eddie, the group's chief musician, announced last week that he would enter a rehab facility for undisclosed reasons, which presumably prevented him from attending.

"First off, I'd like to say god bless you to Edward Van Halen," Anthony said during his remarks. "I wish you were here, buddy. He couldn't be here tonight. He's home gettin' some help. I love you, man."

"I think Eddie's gonna come out the other side a better person, and maybe we'll get our buddy back," Hagar added. "This is ... it's just hard for Mike and I to stand up here and do this, but you couldn't have kept me from here with a shotgun. I'm honored to be here."

Following their acceptance speech and a Van Halen-tribute performance by Velvet Revolver, Hagar and Anthony joined the house band--led by Paul Shaffer--for a rendition of the Hagar-era Van Halen hit "Why Can't This Be Love."

After leaving the stage, Hagar and Anthony faced the media in the pressroom. During a brief Q&A session, Hagar said he favors a Van Halen tour featuring himself, the Van Halen brothers, Anthony and Roth.

"If we all grew up--including me and Mike--[if] all of us can all grow up and all of us do it together, I'm down with that, anytime, anyplace, anywhere," he said. "But let's just hope that Eddie comes out the other side, you know, better than ever, and I think that'll make everything a lot easier."

Hagar added that, whether or not he tours with Van Halen again, he thinks the band should definitely mount a reunion tour with Roth.

To me it was a very sad night. With Sam and Mike up there by themselves you would think that the rest of the band members were dead. I know Eddie is getting treatment and that is a great thing and Al is standing by him in his time of need that is great. But there is no excuse for Dave being an imature child and not showing his face.

So Sammy and Mike don't have a rock band to preform behind them they get Baldy and the Mexicali Horns.........sad very sad.

Sammy rocks he can't drive 55,Eddie needs to take some pointers, and David needs to keep,' to his ballads, because he definitely does not need to be the front man maybe back-up he drives about 35 there's NO WAY he'd have the energy to keep up with the tequila king

Um yeah anything with Sammy the Sheepdog isn't metal, it's keyboard rock to say the least.

But the 1st 6 albums???? You must either be kidding, uninformed, a thrash metal ignoramus or downright nuts not to see the Roth-era stuff as Classic Metal. Peri-f***in-id.

As usual....The above comments prove that the real fans of a legend as great as Van Halen surely don't sign in to this site......Well to add some truth and logic to the nonsense.....Thank You Sammy and Mike for remembering what class, respect and honor means. Since the two men foe which the band was named and another original member decided to show there arrogance and disrespect by not even coming.
HELLO..ANYONE OUT THERE WITH A BRAIN LEFT?? IF EDDIE WENT TO REHAB, WHAT KEPT ALEX FROM COMING ON HIS BROTHERS BEHALF? ARROGANCE AND DISRESPECT FOR EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE VAN HALEN THE BAND IT BECAME.
I'M FINALLY CONVINCED ALSO THAT ANY BS THAT HAS COME FROM THIS BAND HAS EDDIES NAME WRITTEN ALL OVER IT!! JUST LIKE JAMES HETFIELD RAN OFF JASON NEWSTEAD. SAME SITUATION. AS FANS WERE THINKING THESE GUYS ARE BROTHERS RIGHT? WELL, I GUESS WERE ALL WRONG.
I wasn't happy with the choice of Velvet Revolver for there induction duties either. That whole band is a bad idea of desperation......Slash is great, but he shouldn't have been playing aint talkin bout love.
The absolute save of the night musically was Lettermans band with Mike and Sam. They played probably the best version of Why this cant be love. Very tight and believable!!
NOW HERE COME THE STUPID PART......THAT VAN HALEN REUNION WITH DAVE AND WOLFGANG WILL HAPPEN WITH NO APOLOGIES FOR THE HALL OF FAME NO SHOW!!
THE CHEAPEST SEAT WILL BE ABOUT $75(REGARDLESS OF VENUE SIZE) AND MOST OF US WILL ATTEND LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. WHY BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW VAN HALEN IS ONE OF A KIND. TRUE THEY ARE, BUT THE NO SHOW REVEALED HOW LITTLE THEY THOUGHT OF THE PEOPLE WHO LOVED THEM THE MOST.

The above comment was made out of respect for the band itself. None of us truely know why Dave, Ed and Al stayed home, but there no show was very disrespectful to the fans. Surely I'm not the only person who feels this way. It all should make us wonder with all the music and money made....do these dudes really care about the people who help make them legends?
