Germany's Hellflame Festival Canceled

Dark Tranquillity has issued the following announcement about the Hellflame Festival being canceled:

"We hereby inform you that our show at the Hellflame festival is cancelled. Here is the official statement from the band and The Agency Group, our booking agent - Unfortunately, the promoter of Hellflame festival has gone dark. He is not responding to any attempts of communication and has not lived up to his end of the agreement in terms of making the necessary travel arrangements and so forth, which leaves us to believe that he is not intending to go through with the show.

"It is very frustrating for us that people will show up at the door expecting a DT performance without being informed of the situation and we want to do what we can to avoid this. We apologize to our German fans for any inconvenience and hope that we get the chance to meet you this December instead at the Darkness over X-mas tour."

Dark Tranquillity Posts Track from CD/DVD Online

Melodic Death Metal legend Dark Tranquillity will release “Where Death Is Most Alive” DVD / live album on October 26th, 2009 in Europe and November 11th, 2009 in the US. This incredible career spanning DVD will include a 20-songs main show filmed in Milan (Italy) in 2008, as well as a second DVD containing tons of previously unreleased live footage, all promo clips, a 47 minutes long documentary and much more.

The main show’s audio, mixed by the renowned Tue Madsen, will also be released as a separate live 2CD and you can now listen to a first teaser track, “The Treason Wall (Live in Milan 2008),” at the band’s redesigned MySpace page.

As a very exclusive premiere of the DVD, German Metal Hammer magazine & Mikael Stanne (vocals) visited a dedicated Dark Tranquillity fan with cases of beer, chips and of course the brand-new DVD in his living room. Stanne comments:

“Damn, the past weekend was a tough one. Actually one of the craziest weekends in Germany ever! First I had the honour of premiering our forthcoming DVD for some really cool guys from Bochum who applied for a Metal Hammer competition. And being the “prize,” I had to be the good houseguest and bring tons of beer and booze to their houseparty that of course quickly got out of hand in the best possible way. It was great seeing the DVD with other people so I got a chance to get some perspective on it. And judging from the reactions, this is a real winner. Thanks guys for making me feel at home and being exremely cool. Then it was on to Hellflame festival where madness, nakedness, darkness and drunkedness happened as usual. Got to meet some new friends and had an altogether great time.

Cheers guys & look out for our brand-new DVD! / Mikael Stanne”

Pictures from the “Where Death Is Most Alive” living room premiere will be posted soon.

Dark Tranquility Announces Release Date Of New DVD

Dark Tranquility will be releasing a DVD titled, "Where Death Is Most Alive" in commemoration of their 20th Anniversary which will take you from the band's raw beginnings to their current position as one of the most diverse and influential metal acts.

The band comments: “After a lot of work, we're proud to announce that the "Where Death Is Most Alive" DVD will see the light of day on October 26th, 2009 in Europe and November 17th, 2009 in North America via Century Media Records. This little baby took quite some time to deliver, but when you'll see the scope and quality of the material, you'll understand why it wasn't done over a fortnight.

Our first official DVD, "Live damage" (2002), was OK for its time, but hardly spectacular, so this time we wanted to make sure that we could offer people something more substantial that would live up to the high expectations. For the main feature, we had our headline show in Milano last October professionally documented by Finnish production company Vasara Films. As expected, they did a stellar job with both the filming and editing and really managed to capture the vibe of the evening. Italy is home to some of the most devoted and enthusiastic D.T. fans on earth, something which is very obvious from the footage. The show is the longest one in D.T. history (and one of the very last concerts held at the legendary Rolling Stone club), and features a guest performance by Nell Sigland on "The Mundane and the Magic" and "Insanity's crescendo". For the mixing, we once again let Tue Madsen work his magic at his Antfarm Studios in Denmark, and the result is simply amazing.

In addition to that, Village Road films have put together "Out Of Nothing", a true stroll-down-memory-lane documentary about the band. All current members as well as Michael Nicklasson (ex-bass) and Fredrik Johansson (ex-guitar) are interviewed, and a host of people from the early Gothenburg scene share their anecdotes and memories. Among others, Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates, Grotesque etc), Anders Iwers (Tiamat, Ceremonial Oath) and Fredrik Nordström (Studio Fredman) appear in the film, which spans for approx. 47 minutes.

The DVD will also mark the premiere of the "Misery's Crown" promo video, shot earlier this year by Roger Johansson and Vasara Films. All our other promo clips from recent years are featured as well.

Furthermore, we undertook some extensive detective research, raiding our old homes to dig up long forgotten VHS tapes from the archives. A surprisingly large amount of footage was found, most of which never even got spread through the tape trading network at the time. In total, the "Live Archive" portion of the DVD features 21 tracks with a strong emphasis on old ("Skydancer" and earlier) material including some real rarities. Most of these songs were only performed live a handful of times, as shows weren't that frequent back then. Two of them ("Soulbreed" and "The Dying Fragment Of An Elderly Dream") are actually the only D.T. songs that were 100% completed but never recorded properly in studio. Both were written in the autumn of 1991.

To conclude - we're damn proud of this release, and more than sure that it will satisfy the high expectations of both old and new fans alike. Here's to the next 20 years!“

Dark Tranquillity to Release New Album in 2010

Dark Tranquillity has issued the following album update:

"Time to let you in on the plans for our upcoming ninth (or tenth, depending on how you count) full-length album. The as-yet-untitled beast will be recorded in September and October and released in early 2010 through Century Media Records.

"We'll keep the recording setup completely in-house this time. Drums will be tracked in Daniel Antonsson's studio, while the remaining instruments will be immortalized in Martin Brändström's newly renovated Rogue music facilities. The mixing duties will once again be handled by Tue Madsen in his Antfarm studio in Denmark.

"As for the music itself, it's a bit too early to delve into details, but the material feels diverse and fresh and covers all the facets of the D.T. sound. Those who are familiar with our songwriting process know that we always keep re-arranging and experimenting with the material until the recording starts, and while we currently have the basic foundations for around 10 songs, many things are still open.

"Some tentative song titles are 'I am the void,' 'Zero distance,' 'the burden of love alive,' 'Archangelsk' and 'Memories in reverse,' though these are subject to change as usual."
